Ewan McGregor Talks Initial DOCTOR STRANGE Rumors
The Revenge of the Sith star confirms he was "in the mix" to play Stephen Strange, and implies he wants a crack at playing another superhero given the Sorcerer Supreme didn't pan out. Check it out!
Long before Benedict Cumberbatch had entered final negotiations, but not too long after "talks" between Marvel Studios and Joaquin Phoenix had fell through, Ewan McGregor was rumored to be vying for lead role in the Doctor Strange adaptation. Reports had even said the Scottish actor, whose best known for playing Obi-Wan Kenobi in the original Star Wars trilogy, had started reading up on the character in hopes of landing the part. Well, even though Cumberbatch is all set as the Sorcerer Supreme, MTV News caught up with Ewan McGregor at the Sundance Film Festival over the weekend when he confirmed those Doctor Strange rumors to be true. "Yeah, I was into,"he said. "I thought it was exciting. I'm not a big comic guy, so I didn't know who Doctor Strange was. So, I was intrigued by it and I like the idea of creating, or being a superhero character. They didin't [pick me], but it was still fun to be a part of the mix for a while." What do you think?
Directed by Scott Derrickson, Doctor Strange stars Benedict Cumberbatch as Dr. Stephen Strange, with Chiwetel Ejiofor reportedly in talks to join, and the film hits theaters on November 4, 2016.
