Marvel Phase 4 Concept Art Leak Reveals Ms. Marvel, Clea, Female Ronin, America Chavez, And More

It's been a while since we've had a leak this big! Marvel Studios concept art reveals the costumes for characters like Ms. Marvel and Clea, not to mention Phase 4's new Black Widow! See it while you can!

By Nighthawk01 - Mar 25, 2021 03:03 AM EST

In order to make sure toys are completed in time for the release of a big film or TV show, Marvel Studios sends concept art to companies like Funko and Hot Toys so they can get an early start. That occasionally leads to leaks, and we can now share an exciting glimpse of Phase 4 with you!

We start with Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. The Sorcerer Supreme and Wong both have new costumes, with the former looking a little more like his comic book counterpart now. Mordo looks pretty incredible too, while the Scarlet Witch is seen fighting alongside Wong. The big reveals here, though, are first looks at Xochitl Gomez's America Chavez and...is that Clea? It looks a lot like her, though there's something sinister and villainous about that image.

It seems the MCU is getting a female Ronin in Hawkeye, and if the comics are anything to go by, it's Echo wearing that costume. Yelena Belova, meanwhile, is clearly the new Black Widow.

Finally, there's Ms. Marvel. Kamala Khan's costume looks exactly as you'd expect, though we also get a closer look at her first Captain Marvel-inspired outfit. In the full leaked image, there's also a mysterious male character from the Disney+ series who may or may not be the show's villain.

On Reddit, there's text that goes with leaks. It doesn't reveal much, but Rintrah is now confirmed for the Doctor Strange sequel, while Yelena's Black Widow will be donning a mask, apparently.

I like what I'm seeing. Mordo especially looks pretty damn cool.

Also, I was thinking about how character's outfit are always different from the comics and no one bats an eye, but when the color of the skin is different a lot of people lose there shit.

I'm not sure if I offend anyone, but if so I'm sorry, isn't changing the color of skin as trivial as changing clothing?

@bkmeijer - Depends on the character.

@WakandanQueen - yeah true, Black Panther is an obvious example where it does matter. Someone like Mordo though, that doesn't change much

@bkmeijer - I dont mind as long as it looks cool and has a good actor. I didnt mind Blink from days of future past being asian and only having a costume similar to the comic colors, it was cool when her eyes/marks glowed while throwing portals. Nor was i distracted that Dave Bautista's green skin and red tattoos changed in gotg vol 1 to a grayish orange in vol 2.

I also liked Zazie Beets as Domino despite her not having white skin (for obvious reasons).

@bkmeijer - It’s not simply about skin, but about the character’s background. As an American black man, I come at this from the opposite angle — any credible, respectful race or gender bending, particularly with a major character, needs to take into account racial or gender disparities that actually exist. So for example, you can’t just make someone like Bruce Wayne or James Bond black and then write the stories the same way. There are very real disparities that exist in treatment and reception. A black Batman isn’t likely to be a hero that cooperates with cops; he’s just gonna be treated like a criminal vigilante who needs to be put down, and if he’s still rich, he’s not likely to come from the same sort of money that a white Bruce comes from. So to be respectful and make it meaningful, you have to account for the very real changes (especially with an American character), because it’s not helpful to pretend that racism simply doesn’t exist. But at that point, you’ll basically have an entirely new character anyway, so why not simply create a new character with such a background?

For some characters it doesn’t matter as much depending on their background, their personal mission, and their perceived influence on their environment, but for some it really does matter.

Usually, yes. I think for a character whose race isn't intrinsically tied to the character itself it really shouldn't matter. For someone like Black Panther for example, whose race and ethnicity are part of his defining characteristics it would matter.

Even still, since there are so few mainstream or popular non-white superheroes to begin with, making one of them White is more of a lost opportunity and has more impact in terms of representation.

If for example the film version of Ms. Marvel was changed to a White teenage girl it would be more detrimental to Pakistani Americans. I certainly wouldn't want a White version of Blade as he's one of the very few popular mainstream Black characters in comics.

All things just aren't equal so some choices matter more than others.

@DerekLake @Humperdink - very good points. I knew I wasn't seeing the complete picture, so thanks.

The line of what is possible is very meticulous, and therefore I feel that having insights like yours make a difference.

I don't mind it when they make changes to race, because I can only imagine what's its like for other people to see heroes they can look up to (I understand the importance of Black Panther and Captain Marvel, I just don't have a real connection with them).

@mastakilla39 - what about Valkyrie in Thor

@dragon316 - As you so eloquently say whenever you go on a pathetic rant "Hollywood fan casting is racist. It should be about who is best suited for the role and who did the best audition, not skin colour."

I made your spelling better, and the grammar too, of course. So, do you have a problem with Valkyrie's skin colour?

@DARKSEIDDIS - to be fair America Chavez isnt exactly a costume wearing superhero. She wears casual clothes in the comics. The only thing is she’s wearing pants instead of shorts, which I think works for live action version
