Is Marvel Looking At Joseph Gordon-Levitt For DOCTOR STRANGE?

Latino Review reckon they are anyway. The site claim to have sussed which actor is on Marvel's radar to play The Sorcerer Supreme in their planned movie adaptation -- and he's no stranger to CBMs or CBM fancasts! Could JGL really end up going from DC to Marvel? Read on for more..

According to Latino Review, non other than The Dark Knight Rises' Joseph Gordon-Levitt is the man Marvel are thinking about to don the red cape as Dr. Steven Strange. The site stress that this should only be considered a rumor for now as as far as they know no actual offer has been made, and that Levitt and his team may not even be aware, but that "Marvel execs internally are discussing that Levitt is who they figure would be ideal." At 32 (and arguably looking quite a bit younger) Levitt would seem a tad young for the role, but as the script is said to focus on his very early days I guess it was to be expected that Marvel wouldn't cast too much older. Of course even if JGL is the man they want, there's no guarantee he'll accept ..but if this was to come together what would you think of this casting?

Patrick Dempsey should play Dr Strange. He really wants to do it too.

I know he is pretty much doing everything under the sun at the moment but I want Luke Evans, for Doctor Strange. Seriously, it just makes sense.

"Hey guys, they totally want it to be JGL!...just ummm dont ask him about it, cus he probably doesn't know and won't know what you're talking about."

Latino Review for the dubious deniable scoop!

And then when its someone else they say "oh, looks like they changed their mind i guess."

Amazing reporting.

I dig it. You think about it, Hes 32 (This also goes for Henry Cavill as Superman) they film and release it in 2015 (by 2015 he will be 34) then its a success and then theres a sequel (say 2017 so now hes 36) and then Avengers 3 and a trilogy (so 2018/19?) hes now nearly 40... They need that so they can pull out trilogies etc... Look at Bale and RDJ, they started there series in there early 30's and are now pushin 40 by time the trilogy ends.

This one rumor I hope stays as what it is. I normally trust in whatever Marvel does, but I REALLY can't see Gordon-Levitt in the role - he's the right age for a superhero, but he's no "mature hero" face, and I still prefer what Marvel has been doing with their unknown leads. May work, if it does happen, but for now, I wouldn't say yes.

I would rather have Patrick Dempsey or Johnny Depp. JGL is too goddamn young to play Stephen. I think the most believable choices would be either Partrick Dempsey or Joseph Fiennes; They're B listers so they won't cost much for a film.

Makes sense. If Marvel's planning for Strange to be their next Tony Stark, it's logical for them to go younger.

@BANEofExistence RDJ was in his 40's when he did IM1. He is 48 now.

Dr Strange should be an accomplished surgeon in his 40s. Who ever plays him should also be in his 40s.

Well, there was that rumor that they wanted Dr. Strange to be the new franchise builder for Phase Three, kinda like how RDJ was as Iron Man in Phase One. So it makes sense that they would want someone with a fan following like JGL.

But usually El Mayimbe and LatRev are all over the place. Remember the big World War Hulk news? Yeah...

Kinda feel like he's not tall enough or old enough. Like him otherwise.
Ocelot

Strange is meant to be around the same age as Stark, this wont work, JGL also doesn't look old enough, he's got a babyface for crying out loud and can still naturally pass off as a 25 year old.

IMDb (the "always reliable" source for such things) lists him at 5'9". Marvel.com lists Dr. Strange as 6'2". For those wondering...

Johnny Depp would demand too much $, so we can stop suggesting him.

Besides convinced he can't act like a normal person.
