Top 10 Actors Who Could Play Black Panther

Marvel is undoubtedly controlling the movie world exceeding the tens of billions of dollars in revenue. They are set to have movies until the 2020s. Without question they are looking for the next phase of Avengers. Ant Man is set to have a film, although there have been many changes over the course of its development. One of the more underrated, but much loved super heroes that should get his own film should be T’Challa aka Black Panther. Before I get to my list of actors who I think will be fantastic at the role there are some things you must know. 1. I will be casting both young and old actors since we do not know which direction Marvel will take. 2. These actors for the most part either look the part, or possess the necessary resume to back my selections. 3. I am going to reach for actors that are not just big screen stars, but silver screen actors as well 4. This list is in order from my least favorite to most favorite to play the part. 5. PLEASE enjoy and as always I invite comments good or bad. Quick Bio: T’Challa aka Black Panther was born to be King of Wakanda. T’Challa was one of three children, and raised by his now deceased father and former King T’Chaka. After the death of his father T’Challa not only became King, but also Black Panther. T’Challa was responsible for turning Wakanda into a technological global powerhouse. He lives a double life as Luke Charles (American identity) and King of Wakanda. Post Bast Black Panther possesses superhuman: strength, senses, speed, stamina, durability, agility, and reflexes along with a plethora of other abilities. He is also a member of The Avengers, was once married to Storm, and has associated with The Fantastic Four. Without further ado here is the list:
Tyrese Gibson YOB: 1978
Tyrese may not be the most conventional choice. He is a singer and more of a comedic actor. I personally wouldn’t mind him bringing some form of comic relief to the serious nature of Black Panther. Unfortunately I do not see that happening, I selected Tyrese because I believe that he can make people believe in him as T’Chala. He has the look and is no stranger to action films as he is part of the Fast and Furious Franchise.
Djimon Hounsou YOB: 1964
The reasons I selected him are obvious. He has the look, the accent, the martial arts experience, and acting experience. He has upcoming roles in Fast and Furious 7 and most recently How to Drain Your Dragon 2.
Derek Luke YOB: 1974
He jumped onto the Hollywood scene as the critically acclaimed Antwan Fisher. Since then he has battled trying to land that special role. He did make people remember Boobie Miles in Friday Night Lights. He was excellent in Glory Road as Bobby Hill. With his boyish looks he can play both a young T’Challla and the older Luke Charles.
Lance Gross: 1981
Lance Gross is unknown but, he has the look and acting ability to pull off Black Panther. The former model turned actor has really shown his versatility thus far. He has played the comedic role on TBS House of Payne and showed his dramatic side in Tyler Perry’s Temptations: Confessions of a Marriage Counselor. As Marcus Finley he is showing how he can do in an action role in NBC’s Crisis. Black Panther could be Gross’s break out role.
John Boyega YOB: 1992
The London born actor is relatively unknown who broke onto the scene in 2011 in the critically acclaimed Attack the Block. Boyega played a street smart tough kid named Moses and earned many nominations and awards in London for his work. Boyega’s journey is just beginning and he could have his breakout role as a young T’Challa.
Will Smith YOB: 1968
I can go down an abundance of Will Smith movies that were blockbusters, and that alone will support my selection. However, selecting him is not just about the Box Office draw. It is mostly based on his ability to engulf himself into a role and make it into something great. He has played: the funny guy, charming, struggling father, hero, serious, and smart guy. Plus he’s block buster.
Chadwick Boseman YOB: 1982
Boseman made the list because of his biopic expertise. He has played Jackie Robinson, Floyd Little, and he will be playing James Brown in Get on Up. I think he is a talented up and coming actor who has shown his range. Marvel should definitely consider him for the role as T’Challa.
Ibris Elba YOB: 1972
I am not sure if Marvel would double dip so soon. He did just recently reprise his role as Heimdall. But Elba’s resume and versatility speaks for themselves. See Prometheus, Takers, The Losers, and Pacific Rim and tell me that he is not perfect for T’Challa. You can say he isn’t, but unfortunately you will be wrong.
Chiwetel Ejiofor YOB: 1977
Ejiofor is another English actor who made this list. He is a fantastic performer and has risen through the ranks as a top Hollywood actor. Before 12 Years a Slave I remembered him as Victor Sweet from Four Brothers. Over the years he has shown his range and skills. Ejiofor has done a great job in movies such as Inside Man, American Gangster, 2012, Salt, and the critically acclaimed 12 Years a Slave. In most cases he would have been number one, but there is one actor who I like more than him as Black Panther.
David Oyelowo YOB: 1976
Oyelowo is the perfect fit as T’Challa he has the look and a good resume: stage, TV, and big screen. He broke out as Dr. Junju in The Last King of Scotland. The man is a fantastic actor who is just beginning to scratch the surface. Don’t believe me go watch Rise of the Planet of the Apes, The Help, Red Tails, Lincoln, Jack Reacher, and/or The Butler. David will kill the role as T’Challa and as an Ox Ford graduate bring the intellect to his alter ego Luke Charles. There you have it, my Top 10 actors that can play T’Challa. Please feel free to leave your comments and some actors who think I have missed.
