Lobo vs Thing

Lobo has been shown to be in the megaton range more often then not while Thing has at best 85-100 tons thought has been feats of a least lifting 30,000 tons. Lobo wins.

Rhino vs Colossus

Colossus is smarter then Rhino so he is the more likely to win this.

Captain Atom vs Martian Manhunter

Captain Atom one of the most powerful heroes in the DCU.It might take awhile but Captain Atom should win out in the end.

Lobo-I love Ben, but Lobo is a cosmic bad ass. That puts him out of Ben's league

Colossus-I almost feel bad for rhino, he gets no respect

Captain Atom-although MM is one of my childhood favorites (along with Superboy and Mon-el) what little I know about CA is he is crazy powerful

Lobo vs The Thing -- I've already been called biased once this week, so I'm not about to give anybody a reason to accuse me again.

Nah, just kidding, I totally voted the Thing. Cry and pout all you want but Lobo's never been consistently written and his strength level varies by ridiculous degrees from one writer to the next. Which is it: strong as Superman, or barely stronger than a human? No one can say for sure, because it depends on how popular he is at any given time and/or who's writing him. There is no iconic version of Lobo to go by, because he's never been consistent enough to secure any kind of iconicity. So I split the difference, halfway between Superman and human. In which case Thing is much stronger. Plus he's no slouch in the fisticuffs department. Thing hammers him into the ground.

Rhino vs Colossus -- Rhino may be a dullard but he cut his teeth fighting Spider-Man and Hulk and is a much more capable opponent than he's given credit for. I do think he'd lose this fight because Colossus has now matured and is Class 100, plus he's gained a lot of practical experience over the years. But I don't think it would be the easy defeat most others think it would.

Captain Atom vs Martian Manhunter -- love MM to death, easily my favorite DC character, but he's going up against a dude with the power to control matter. MM would put up only as much of a fight as Atom would allow him to.

Is Rhino's reputation really that horrible nowdays? This is just sad...I feel pathetic voting for him, but I think he actually can win.
LoudLon
LoudLon - 4/13/2013, 1:09 AM
In his history, I believe Rhino has only won two fights. One is against the guy who replaced him after he retired; the other is when he charged Thor from behind and ran him through, when he was using a fang from the Midgard serpent for a horn.

Other than that, he's a perennial jobber, and I can't think of any other instances where he's won a fight. He even loses to characters who have no earthly business being able to beat him. They even had him lose to Punisher. And though Punisher was using Stucker's Satan Claw, there's no way Frank [frick]ing Castle could beat Rhino.

The dude just doesn't get any love.

@LoudLon
I know Rhino's a big jobber. But I think realistically he should've won against Punisher, Kraven and Cap...I could see Spidey taking him out because he could trip him with the webs. That's the only one though, In fact, physically I'd place Rhino as Thing's equal.

I just don't get why Marvel treats him like garbage. And consistently humiliates him in every battle. He could be an awesome character if anyone took the time. I like him alot, he's sort of a villain sort of a good guy. But he has good intentions and means well, he's like a villain with a heart of gold. Like maybe a meaner version of the Thing.

I don't get why they are always humiliating him, realistically he would've never lost to Punisher, Kraven or Captain America. (they even had Cap one shotting him) As a fan of Rhino and Juggernaut I'm pretty upset with what they've done to these two.

I cheer for Rhino in every one of his good moments though...like when he pierced straight through Thor. Or even when he fought Hulk and managed to gore him, even though Hulk is my favorite I actually wanted Rhino win that.

I think if written well, Rhino vs Colossus would be an awesome fight. In which I think it's 50/50 in all fairness to both characters (I love big Pete a ton as well)

@Loudlon
That just shows how biased you are. We're supposed to be going by the most iconic version of these guys, and the most iconic Lobo was the one from the Superman: TAS, who was on Supe's strength level.
relentless1
relentless1 - 4/13/2013, 3:44 AM
^ agreed, TAS/ Justice League Lobo is the most iconic

Iconic varies from generation to generation(example 40's Batman differs from 50's,50's different from 60's etc.) though a good media adaptation use a good mix of classic/retcon orgin and modern interpretation.

Rhino just sucks. His look sucks, character sucks. Everything about him sucks. Same with Electro. I know he's a guy in a Rhino suit but, they could've done a better job with it. He's so forgettable. I'm not even sure he ever had a motive. Characters like him and Electro need a serious make over from comics to film. At least Rhino has some entertaining fights unlike Electro. Anyways.

Lobo wins hands down.
Colossus wins, it's obvious and I can't comment on Captain Atom vs Martian Manhunter cause I don't know anything about either of them.

@electricsuperman -- you show me an iconic version of Lobo and I'll show you a bridge that goes to the moon.

Spoiler alert -- it doesn't exist.

Anytime Lobo gets a vote, it's because someone's going by the Superman-level Lobo. Of course that's the version they're going with, because if they went by any other version of him, he'd lose the majority of his matches here.

At the very least I try to be fair and aim for the average between the lowest level he's been written at and the highest. I don't even like the damned character but that's still a more fair treatment of him than any DC writer has ever given him, not to mention more consistent, because anytime Lobo appears in a match here, I ALWAYS go by the "averaged out" version.

You show me one single other voter here who doesn't vote Lobo with the Superman-level version in mind simply because that's the one which is more likely to win, and not only will I show you that bridge that goes to the moon, I'll GIVE you the [frick]in' thing.

Spoiler alert -- that doesn't exist, either.

I only read oneLobo story (and I didn't even buy it, I read it off the rack) but it was against Superman and he more than held his own, so I have to go with that version.

It's weird, I only read DC, some gold key, and horror comics in the 60s. Then I started reading Spiderman at age 12 and Marvel slowly over took Superman during the 70s until I completely dropped DC by the 80s. From that time on the only DC comics I read were because no Marvel comics came out that week and I didn't want to waste the trip comic store. Still I did follow what was going on during the different Earth crises and more epic DC events. Unfortunately I missed a lot in the mid-90s with both companies and only started reading comics again after 2000.

I guess my reasoning for writing this is to explain where I naturally come from with my views and opinions. When you say iconic my mind naturally draws from the era I enjoyed the most and I would say that was mid-70s through the 80s.

To be honest I'm completely lost with current DC characters because of the recent recon and I'm rapidly losing track of the Marvel characters for the same reasons. It helps for me when the up-to-date readers can break down their logic.

I didn't vote on any fight. But I would have to vote lobo based off the animated show. That's how I know him.

You know, half the time I check out the fights just to read LoudLon's rants. ;)

(on average) Lobo beats the Thing. Though Thing is a much better character.

Colossus. Can Rhino's horn pierce Pete? Without the serpent fang, the answer is probably no so Pete wins this.

Atom is a bad mother F'er. I love MM but if you were going to pick a character that could one up him, it would be Atom. I remember the comic in the 90s that had him becoming Monarch. So Atom takes this. Plus he's DC's mainstream version of Dr. Manhattan.

@SPideyQuad

Interesting story. When I was a little kid DC comics were hard to come by where I lived.I was lucky enough to begin my DC reading with a friend's brother's O'Neill/Adams Green Lantern/Green Arrow issues and a few Batmans as well but by the time I actually found other DC comics on the newstands I could hardly find a title that was worth my while. I finally gave up trying with The Flash #228 and the whole cheesy writer Cary Bates becomes a main plot device against the 'Trickster' who looked like he'd just jumped out of a deck of cards. It was painful. For me at the time (and sometimes still today) the DC heroes had the most iconic look of all superheroes but their execution by DC was just fricken embarrassing. Sure there were a few exceptions like Jim Aparo's Brave and the Bold, Englehart & Roger's Detective comics and of course Kirby's work but during my formative comic reading years Marvel was the obvious choice unless you had the mind of a simpleton.

Truth be told when the comic writers tried to add the laws of physics to comics and time-scaling a lot of stuff got ruin in the retcons in both Marvel and DC.That's why I stuck with Batman solo series always a good solid read.Had a lot of real psychological & medical terms always had me looking in an encyclopedia and/or dictionary from time to time.Green Lantern,Ironman,and X-Men(when it doesn't get convoluted)were always my next choices.While I occasionally read Justice League and Avengers,but in truth I never really saw a reason for these heroes to come together and stay after the major battles were done.Other then as a company's way of making money.Which is kind of a deal breaker In My Opinion.

@jojo -- that gave me a laugh, man. It's funny to me because I don't go into every new match looking for an opportunity to rant; I just come in to cast my votes and explain my reasoning. The rants always come when someone drops the "b" word on me, which truly irritates me because I think it's pretty evident that I go out of my way to NOT be biased.

I have characters I love and don't want to see lose, but if I can't rationally, logically explain them winning a fight but vote for them anyway, that makes me no different from those who DO vote with bias. There are certain characters I absolutely despise -- Punisher, Wolverine, even Lobo -- but at various times I have voted for the, but only when I think they'd win.

Yeah, I know these matches are just for fun but integrity is integrity. And I strenuously dislike my integrity being questioned. Obviously, there are some here who don't suffer from that particular handicap LOL

BTW theres no way MM shouldve lost to thor, sentry or superman....maybe superman....

^^
Sentry would beat Jonn...but I agree about the other two.

Sentry Is what happens if you combined Superman, Molecule Man and Goku into one person. With the Hulk-like ability to grow even more powerful as stress builds. Sentry is more powerful than Jonn...as well as way faster.

I agree about Supes and Thor though.
GuardianDevil
GuardianDevil - 4/13/2013, 7:26 PM
Sentry is like...

Strength and speed on par with Superman.

Molecule manipulation on par with Molecule Man.

Energy projection on par and probably greater than Goku.

Psionics on par with Charles Xavier.

Hulk-like ability to get stronger as stress builds.

Also, when someone tries to use telepathy on him. The Void is unleashed...which would destroy the Marvel and DC universes combined.

He's not that great of a character, but he was intended to be the ultimate one-up to the DC characters.

jojofmd - 4/14/2013, 6:24 AM
@LoudLon Good!, I think we should all remember these are hypothetical and not serious, which makes them fun arguments to have. Nothing is really at stake.
I attempt to stay unbiased as well and will willingly point out when I'm not. Like with Wolvie and Sentry, i can't stand those characters.

@Fenix, That is why I don't like Sentry as a character. He was pretty much a retconned one-up. Which honestly seems ridiculous given the strength of Marvel's Galactic heroes. Jonn would match up to Supes and Thor well. However, as those who point out that Supes is just an alien. Well, so is Jonn.
GuardianDevil
GuardianDevil - 4/14/2013, 2:58 PM
@jojofmd
Yeah, I know Sentry is not a very good character, I agree that Jonn would beat Thor and Superman too though. Jonn's strength is on par with Superman, but he's got like a half a dozen other abilities that would put him down.
