Constantine Reboot Fancast!!!

When the head honchos at Warner Bros. decide to reboot the Constantine series, here is a fancast for the future film... Hellblazer!

Plot: The film would revolve around the hunger demon Mnemoth trying to overtake our world as a ploy by the First of the Fallen. John Constantine will travel from London to New York in order to stop the demon. As John goes against Mnemoth, he teams up with Papa Midnite, an enigmatic club owner, Zatanna, a sexy witch who does practical magic, and a succubus named Chantinelle. Armed with his own personal army, John goes against Mnemoth, battling his own demons of a former lover, Emma, who killed herself because of him.

Director: Guillermo del Toro

A brilliant director who has had accomplishments such as Hellboy and Hellboy II: The Golden Army and Pan’s Labyrinth. A Hellblazer movie seems like his forte. A John Constantine movie shouldn’t be directed by like Martin Scorsese or Clint Eastwood. It’s not the kind of film they would do. Constantine, though, that seems like something del Toro could really make into something special.

John Constantine: Alexander Skarsgard

Alexander Skarsgard is an already accomplished actor, having appeared in films such as Zoolander, and will be in the upcoming films Straw Dogs and Battleship. Skarsgard is most well known as Eric Northman in HBO’s True Blood. He has the eeriness of Constantine, while also radiating the extreme confidence that Constantine always seems to have. I think this is an original choice, as I wanted to go for a slightly younger actor. Skarsgard is about 35, which puts him not at too young but not quite the old blue collar warlock. He still must overcome a learning curve, but has experience.

Zatanna: Mila Kunis

Zatanna is one of the coolest characters in the comic book universe today. I see her as an old lover of John’s, and is working in New York City when Mnemoth attacks. Mila Kunis is a remarkable actress. Famous for playing Jackie Burkhart in the television show That ‘70’s Show, Mila has appeared in the films Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Max Payne, and most recently, Black Swan. Her performance in Black Swan convinced me she could be Zatanna. Mila was able to have great insight into a darker world. I see Zatanna being a lot like her character Lily - a troubled woman who tries to have fun, while you can sense that there’s something darker about her.

Chas Chandler: Toby Kebbell

Toby Kebbell is a highly underrated actor. He has been in movies like Alexander, Prince of Persia, and had a prominent role as Johnny Quaid in Guy Ritchie’s Rock ‘n Rolla. He always seems to have a sardonic sense of humor, one that gravitates in realism. It would mix well with Constantine’s sarcastic, dry humor. Rather than in the last one, where Chas was Constantine’s apprentice, Chas in this version would be more of a friend. I see it as a Dr. House - Wilson relationship from House, M.D. Chas is probably one of Constantine’s closest friends, but Constantine will never admit it.

Papa Midnite: Cuba Gooding, Jr.

Cuba Gooding, Jr. may seem like an odd choice for such an intense character, but he is in actuality, a great actor. Even though it is hard to look at him without thinking “SHOW ME THE MONEY!!!” the truth is, no matter what he does, he proves himself to be able to carry the weight of any character. He was great in Jerry Maguire, rocked the role of Tre Styles in the film Boyz n the Hood, and was riveting in Radio. I think Cuba Gooding, Jr. would own the role of Papa Midnite.

First of the Fallen: Willem Dafoe

Not Lucifer, but instead the first angel to fall after him from God’s grace. The First will be pulling the strings of Mnemoth in order to gain power over Lucifer and take over Hell. Willem Dafoe is a phenomenal actor and perfect for this part. He was crazy good in The Boondock Saints, amazing in Platoon, and was beyond creepy in Shadow of the Vampire. Dafoe has been in a comic book movie before, the Spider-Man films by Sam Raimi, but since it’s being rebooting, I think he’ll be open to another CBM.

Gary Lester: Dominic Monaghan

Dominic Monaghan is probably best known for his roles as Merry in Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings trilogy and for Charlie Pace on the television show Lost. Monaghan might seem like an unusual choice, but other than setting Mnemoth loose onto the world, Gary Lester is a pretty light character. Monaghan seems able to balance the light of Merry with the dark of Charlie Pace (who was also parts light and dark).

Chantinelle “Ellie”: Odette Yustman

Odette is a fantastic actress who starred in The Unborn. Despite the movie being pretty terrible, I do remember her acting and how well it was. I was thoroughly impressed. She could easily play the succubus that hangs around with Constantine.

Emma: Gemma Arterton

Gemma is another underrated actress. She has appeared in the James Bond film, Quantum of Solace as well as Prince of Persia. Emma I see as an old love of Constantine’s, The One, even. She commits suicide due to a soul that John unleashes while they are together. The whole chain of events is set off because Lester sends the demon to Emma’s apartment, as he thinks that’s where Constantine will be. In truth, he left after she died.

Mrs. McGuire: Julie Walters

Julie Walters is known to mainstream audiences as Molly Weasley, mother of Ron Weasley in the Harry Potter films. I think Julie Walters would be great as Constantine’s bitter landlady.

Mnemoth: CGI

I figured the Hunger Demon would be CGI. It does have a voice, but I didn’t want to humanize the demon by giving it a distinct voice. Instead I figured it would have the voice of everyone it has taken. It’s sort of like a Legion thing.

Phantom Stranger: Matthew Goode

Another cast member who is not unfamiliar to the comic book movie world. Matthew Goode, of course, is known for his portrayal of Ozymandias. Goode is a brilliant actor who deserves another comic book movie. The Phantom Stranger would be used as a small cameo/Easter egg for the fanboys. Maybe towards the end, Constantine meets the Phantom Stranger in a half-dream, half-dead state.

Well, that's my fancast! Hope you enjoyed it! Leave good comments and have a Happy St. Patty's Day!!!

Cool man, love Constantine. I actually really enjoyed the film when I was like 15, but it's probably not so great if I were to see it now. A reboot closer to the comics would be cool.

I love Cuba G. Jr., but Hail Naw! Don't mess up Papa M like that. I say Djimon Hounsou or Mr. Ecko only.

yeah its a good cast and every thing but I would rather have a brit play Constantine might find it easier to do the Liverpudlian accent, because Skarsgard is going to need some serious coaching to do authentic Liverpudlian accent. but I can see him doing it but he'll need one hell of coach. I don't think theres anything wrong with the age since when he first appeared in comics Constantine was 35 I believe so its fine. Rest of the cast are good too, oh and the reboot should be called Hellblazer and a good proportion of the movie should be set in London.
