DC Movies! Results: Casting Robin in the Nolanverse

The DC Movies! Page on Facebook, asked members who they would like to see cast as Robin? These are the top ten choices made by the group.

Without being given options, DC Movies! asked page members who they would like to see as Robin. All of the commentary is done by myself.

These are the top ten results:

10. Nobody

I think it's pretty clear at this point that Christopher Nolan will not be using any incarnation of Robin in his Batman films. It seems like there are a bunch of people who agree, but I have a feeling they were the same people who said Bucky would be lame to feature in the Captain America movie.

9. Ezra Miller

I recognize Ezra Miller from Californication and as the star of the film, We Need to Talk About Kevin, which I'm really interested in seeing. I never thought of him as Robin, but not hating the idea!

8. Kellan Lutz

Although I've only seen Kellan Lutz in two things, I could only tell you what I thought of his acting in the A Nightmare on Elm Street remake because it was so bad. To be fair, nobody was good in that movie. Even the CGI sucked! I don't remember him in Generation Kill though and I haven't seen/don't plan to watch any of the Twilight films, but I will be going to see Immortals.

Lutz as Robin or Nightwing lacks luster in my opinion based only on one crappy film.

7. Joseph Gordon-Levitt

Joseph Gordon-Levitt was the favourite to play multiple characters in the Nolanverse, especially Robin and Heath Ledger's replacement as the Joker. Rumors still swirl that his TDKR character, John Blake, will be revealed as one of those characters, although I do not see that happening.

6. Michael Cera

It was a little shocking to see him as a candidate for Robin. It's one of those cases where people don't think of the actual character, they just think: Young, white, boy, and the first person that comes to mind to mind is Michael Cera.

5. Wil Wheaton

Even more shocking than votes for Cera were votes for Wil Wheaton. I am a fan of his, following his tweets and like most people, I loved Stand By Me. Wheaton has voiced a few DC characters, including Robin (Tim Darke) in the DC Universe Online video game, so I guess the suggestion wasn't toally out there. It would be interesting to see him in a role like Nightwing and I think he's such a fan, he would give it his all. In a Nolanverse, I could see Wil Wheaton as a third tier character like Rurger Hauer in Batman Begins or Anthony Michael Hall in The Dark Knight.

4. Unknown

It happens all the time, beginning with Christopher Reeves and most recently, Chris Hemsworth, casting an unknown can be risky, but also very lucrative for the franchise producers and studio.

3. Chandler Riggs

Christopher Nolan said back in 2005 that if he were to ever cast Robin, he would cast very young. I enjoy Chandler Riggs in The Walking Dead and this is probably the best choice for a Nolanverse Robin I've seen so far!

2. Ellen Page

The only girl that was brought up for Robin was Ellen Page, nominating her for the role of Carrie Kelley from Batman: The Dark Knight Returns comic book. She has played costumed heroes in the past, playing Shadowcat in X3 and Bolty in James Gunn's under-rated film, Super! I'm not really a fan of hers, but I can understand why people dig her.

1. Logan Lerman

Logan Lerman was my favourite to play Peter Parker in The Amazing Spider-Man. I could definitely see him as Dick Grayson, especially since he has already co-starred with Christian Bale in 3:10 to Yuma. He's a talented actor and would be an excellent addition to the franchise.

JGL and Miller are the only decent choices. I would personally go with Ian Somerhalder...

If he WAS in the film, then I'd say Riggs. However: we all know that he won't be.

I like Riggs and Lerman. Josh Hutcherson wouldn't be bad either.

Riggs would make a pretty interesting Robin; maybe for a rebooted Batman that focus on the relationship of the two rather than how Batman become Batman.

@Lewis25: yeah but the fact that he can't act is a major downer.

Lerman is an awful actor and I hope he is kept away from CBMs. Josh Hutcherson would be alright but not great.

Kevin Zegers or Trevor Morgan might would be a good older Robin.

Everyone thinks Joseph Gordon Levitt is a great actor. I do to but fans I think are a little to quick to cast him in every role like they do with Fillion, Hardy and Fassbender. I really think Ellen Page reminds me of a character like Stephanie Brown who was a female Robin.
