My take on a Dragonball movie.

We all know that Dragonball Evolution was a total fu#k up I don’t know if it was the script and some of the actors back then but the movie really sucked. Some of the actors in the movie like Emmy Rossem, Jamie Chung and James masters were pretty decent but the others were pretty bad like I said I don’t know if it was the script or the actors back then. I am a fan of Anime and grew up watching it so I took the time to put together a fan cast.Dragonball Evolution lacked some key dragonball characters like Krillin, Tien and Lunch who were part of Goku’s adventures. Secondly it lacked the fight scenes that Dragonball was famous for. So I put together a cast for my version of a Dragonball Reboot movie so here we go……

Director - Zack Snyder
Zack Snyder is a talented director who has done wonders with movies. He has the directing talent to bring something famous like Dragonball and make it a success. People doubted that a Watchmen movie could be brought to life but Zack Snyder did it. He also brought us Man of Steel after Superman Returns flopped and made a success of it in my opinion. The fight scenes in Watchmen and Man Of Steel as well as 300 was sort of Dragonball type fighting (That’s what Dragonball Evolution lacked).

The Cast

Aaron Taylor Johnson as Goku
I took the Dragonball Evoulution approach and made Goku abit older than he is in Dragonball. My Goku would be in his early twenties maybe 21 or 23 making him pretty young but not that young. Justin Chatwins Goku was okay he wasn’t the best so here is my choice for Goku…. Aaron Taylor Johnson has the acting ability to pull of comedy roles as well as serious roles. He has proven himself as a pretty good rising actor and he could be a fantastic choice for a young Goku. Other actors I considered were Robert Sheehan, Kitt Harrington, Dylan o’ Brien, Penn Badgley, Josh peck, Steven R McQueen, Andrew Garfield, Tyler Hoechlin and Liam Hemsworth.

Lance Reddick as Piccolo
James Masters is a good actor but I guess the script kind of messed thing up for him but he was one of the better actors in the film. Lance Reddick has the acting ability as well as the voice for Piccolo. Watch Lance Reddick in American Horror Story, Fringe, White House Down, Intelligence and any other TV show or movie that he is in. he has proven that he is a talented actor who can hold his own in many roles.

Lyndsey Fonseca as Bulma
Emmy Rossem was one of the better actors in Dragonball Evolution so I decided to take the same approach and make Bulma in her mid to late twenties maybe 25 or 28 because she is a little bit older than Goku in Dragonball. Lyndsey Fonseca is a actor who has proven herself in TV shows as well as movies. She plays tough and intelligent characters and that is exactly what Bulma needs to be. Others I considered were Olivia Wilde, Jane Levy, Alison Brie, Nina Dobrev and Ashley Benson.

Steven Yeun as Krillin
Krillin was not in Dragonball Evolution but should have been since he is Goku’s childhood friend and was a major part of the story line. Steven Yeun is a talented actor who can be serious as well as pretty funny. My version of Krillin would be in his late twenties maybe 27 or 28. Other actors I considered were Robert Sheehan, Avan Jogia and Rupert Grin.

Matt Lanter/Chris Pine as Yamcha
Yamcha was one of the worst characters in Dragonball Evolution because he was written badly and because Yunn Park is a bad actor. Yamcha is a pretty cool character and deserves to be portrayed well. Both Chris Pine and Matt Lanter are actors that can be cocky as well as arrogant because that is how Yamcha started out in Dragonball. My Yamcha would be in his late twenties or early thirty’s maybe 29-31. Other actors I considered were Byung – Hun Lee, Steven Yeun and Rick Yeun.

Garrett Hedlund as Tien
Tien was another character that was left out of Dragonball Evolution. Tien started out as Goku and Yamcha’s rival and later became their friend. Tien was aggressive and arrogant in Dragonball. Garrett Hedlund is a young rising star and has the acting ability to pull of aggressive and cocky characters just watch him in Death Sentence and Four Brothers as well as Country Strong, Tron Legacy and On the Road. Tien would be in his late twenties or early thirty’s maybe 29 - 31. Other actors I considered were Karl Urban, Liam McCintyre and Taylor Kitch.

Ken Jeong as Master Roshi
Roshi in Dragonball evolution came of as cheesy and cliché so I decided to use a pretty famous comedy actor for Roshi….Ken Jeong. He has the comedic side to pull of Roshi’s personality and has the acting ability to be serious when it is required. I considered Jackie Chan, James Wong and Stanley Tucci.

Arden Cho as Chi Chi
Jamie Chung made a pretty good Chi Chi in my opinion so I looked for someone who could pull of a similar version of Chi Chi so I chose Arden Cho from Pretty Little Liars and Teen Wolf. Chi Chi would be around the same age as Goku or maybe even younger like 20 – 23. I considered no other actresses.

Margot Robbie as Lunch
Lunch was not in dragonball Evolution but was kind of important in certain story lines. For lunch I wanted someone who could pull of both her personalities when she sneezes (For those of you who don’t know about this Lunch’s personality changes every time she sneezes either an innocent friendly girl or an aggressive mean girl). Margot Robbie has the acting ability to pull to this of. Lunch would be in her late twenties maybe 28-29.

Jackie Chan as Grandpa Gohan
Jackie Chan is a famous guy as well as a famous martial artist. He has the acting ability and the martial arts experience for the role.

For some characters like Ox-King,Baba,Chiaotzu and Mr Popo I could not think of anyone.

Nice cast and cool director. Aaron Johnson would be cool as Goku, yes to Piccolo and yes to your Fonseca. Steven yeun isnt that short but I dont really think height is that impartant these days with all the stuff they can do with technology. For Yamcha I would go for Chris Pine. Garrett Hedlund kinda looks like Tien in your pics and I like the rest except jackie Chan

I like this. Prepare for people to complain about having whites and not Asians. It really doesn't matter considering in the DB world their isn't an Asia, Europe, Africa, North or South America, etc.

I've always thought Snyder would do a great DBZ movie. Especially seeing his work on MOS. I watched it and was thinking "Not only do Supes and Goku have similar stories, but they should be directed in a film by the same person!"

Snyder would make a visually striking DragonBall Z movie. The issue is who would write the script and also Snyder's 300 and SuckerPunch. Both movies suck. Man of Steel was alright. I can see why you'd pick him, not saying I have a better suggestion. Just would pick someone else.

Let's see here:
Step 1) Take 'Man of Steel'
Step 2) Clark Kent=Goku, General Zod=Vegeta, Faora=Nappa (sort of)
Step 3) 'The Dark Knight Rises'-style structure: Goku/Piccolo vs. Raditz= Batman vs. Bane sewer fight, Goku on Snake Way/Piccolo training Gohan=Bruce recovering in the Pit
Step 4) 'Man of Steel'-esque ending with the main hero thwarting an attempted alien invasion by his own race (Goku & Z Warriors vs. Vegeta & Nappa)
Step 5) You just made a great DBZ movie!

Thanks for the comments!

Redhood13
Thanks for the comment you are correct about the white Asian thing but no one commented anything along those lines yet.

Avenger13
Vegeta is not in Dragonball but if I had to choose I would go for Liam McCintyre, Tyler Hoechlin or Ian Somerhalder. Thanks for the comment.

Melkaticox
Lunch did help te group fight the Red Ribbon army, she also fought King Piccolo at one stage and she also lived with Master Roshi and them. She also appeared in the Dragonball animated movie and even later on towards the end of Dragonball.

MexicanSuperman
Thanks for the comment.I used jackie Chan for Grandpa Gohan because he has been used to many times as Master Roshi.

@Lowinters PERSONALLY I can sort of see, HOPEFULLY, someone deciding to do a 'requel' to 'Dragonball: Evolution' in the future. By which I kinda mean...like act as though Evolution was SOMEWHAT part of continuity, but...better. You get what I mean? Like START at the beginning of DBZ, with all the Piccolo stuff having happened (though more close to the original series)and just go from there with a film essentially covering the Saiyan Saga, hoping people somewhat remember Evolution while simultaneously being amazed by how awesome this new film is.
And then the sequel to that...combine the Namek and Frieza Sagas. There, I said it.

But more on point, in general I love your cast-particularly Taylor-Johnson as Goku. That is...I will really get behind that idea. It's fantastic. Ken Jeong is...let's say 'unconventional', and perhaps not old enough. Chan is inspired, and could be very enjoyable.
