JoshW: I know that the team’s line-up was only actually announced yesterday but I couldn’t resist putting a cast together for what I think looks like a pretty damned amazing new group of Avengers! We may not know what their role in the Heroic Age will be but I feel that I know the characters well enough to cast them the best I can! Enjoy! :)
The Team
Secret Avengers is a Marvel Comics title scheduled to debut in May 2010 as part of the 'Heroic Age' relaunch of titles, following the end of the Siege storyline. It will be written by Ed Brubaker, with artwork by Mike Deodato.
Captain America was born from an experimental super-soldier serum during World War II, transforming frail Steve Rogers into the exemplar of human physical perfection and a Sentinel of Liberty.
What is there to say? This casting decision made all of my previous Cap choices look like crap so now I really cant see anyone doing better in this role than Evans! Of course, we have to wait until The First Avenger to see how he does but you’ve only got to look at his past work to see what a great actor he is and what an amazing job he is sure to do!

yet kind and gentle heart and intelligence. He also served terms with the Avengers, the Defenders and X-Factor.
Yes, I want him to play Reed Richards as well but I can honestly not think of an actor who would be better suited to play Hank McCoy! His look, voice and acting style makes him perfect for the role in my opinion and after seeing his unique performances in movies like Public Enemies and Watchmen I’m sure that he’s the right guy for the job!

Moon Knight, Marc Spector, Steven Grant, Jake Lockley: different aspects of the same man. All serving Khonshu, the Egyptian Lunar God of Vengeance and Justice as his "Avatar".
I’ve often struggled in the past to decide who would make a good Moon Knight but Affleck would really do the character justice in my opinion. I’m a big fan of the character (especially in Gregg Hurwitz’s latest series) and can easily imagine him being able to pull off both the darker side of MK as well as the various personalities he has.

As a member of the Nova Corps, Richard Rider is empowered by the Nova Force. At present, Richard Rider is the Nova Prime.
Well, for a start he looks perfect for this role! (as I hope you can see from the picture above!) As well as that, Padalecki is a great actor who’s shown a diverse range of acting skills in Supernatural so I have no doubt that he’d be able to pull off Nova brilliantly!

Brunnhilde is the leader of the Valkyries and is one of Asgard's strongest warriors as well as Odin's chooser of the slain.
After seeing her in 24 recently, I think that she would be an excellent Valkyrie! Her part there really showed me that she can handle the development of a character well and in my eyes, she looks just like I’ve always imagined the character! I also have no problem imagining her pulling off a warrior role like this brilliantly.

War Machine is a heavier-armed version of Iron Man. The "Variable Threat Response Battle Suit" is often worn by James Rhodes.
Although I’m pretty happy with Don Cheadle being cast as War Machine in Iron Man 2, I think that Mackie suit’s the role just as well. His performance in The Hurt Locker showed that he has the right qualities as an actor to do well with a character like this and he looks perfect for the role in my opinion.

UPDATE
JoshW: Since I first posted this cast a couple of days ago, Marvel have announced the full roster of the team at the 2010 Chicago Comic & Entertainment Expo so here are the rest of my casting choices for the Secret Avengers!
Eric O'Grady, an agent of S.H.I.E.L.D., is the third man to use the superhero codename of Ant-Man. He wears a prototype Ant-Man power suit that Hank Pym was designing for SHIELD.
Pegg has been a popular choice for all three of the men who have been Ant-Man in the past but O’Grady is the one that I think he is best suited to. As a slightly more comedic character, he would be well suited to a role like this and is a great actor who could also easily handle the more serious side of him too.

Natasha Romanova, known as Black Widow, is one of the greatest espionage spies still alive today, one of S.H.I.E.L.D. best agents, and a recurring member of the Avengers.
Even though I think Marvel made a great choice by casting Scarjo as Black Widow, Emily Blunt was always who I wanted to see in the role. She is a beautiful and talented actress and although Scarjo is a “great choice“, I think that Blunt would have been a perfect one!

Inspired by the tales of Captain America and her sister Margaret Carter, she decided to work for S.H.I.E.L.D. She is the lover of Steve Rogers.
An excellent actress who in my opinion fits this character perfectly. In her past roles she has displayed a diverse acting style ranging from serious dramatic role to comedic and action orientated one. These qualities and the fact she looks ideal, make her just right to play Sharon Carter.
