Hey all,
Below is an outline I wrote yesterday and today for a Justice League film that I'm planning on turning into a script. If there's any changes that you think need to be made (eg, if it doesn't line up with the comics), I'll change it in the final draft. I tried to make it close to the comics as much as possible, and I also drew inspiration from the Justice League cartoon concerning Martian Manhunter's origins.
The Justice League
On the planet of Apokolips, Darkseid summons the alien race, Appellaxians, to Planet Earth in seven teams to see which team could conquer it the planet first. The teams were Wood-King, Crystal Creature, Glass-Man, Stone-God, Golden Roc, and Fire-Lord, and each of them was sent to a different part of the world. The seventh team, Mercury Monster, was sent to Mars to annihilate the whole population, and they would then be sent to earth to join the rest in one massive takeover.
The first team, Wood-King, was sent to Gotham City. One day, billionaire Bruce Wayne looks outside of his window, only to see some sort of explosions from a distance. He quickly enters his secret base, the Batcave, and suits up as alter-ego Batman. He drives out in the Batmobile and hits the streets of Gotham, and, to his dismay, the streets looked like a site from a world war. Cars were thrown all over the place, some buildings were on fire, and a few bodies were thrown around. Batman found one body he identified as James Gordon, the Commissioner of Gotham and a close friend of Batman’s. But before he could do anything else, an alien popped out and kicked Batman to the ground. Batman quickly came back to his feet, and suddenly a dozen or so aliens were surrounding him. Realizing that he would have to fight his way back to the Batmobile, Batman started fighting the aliens vigorously, much more than his usual fighting habits. He eventually went back to the Batmobile, and upon entering, he shot down the aliens who were attacking him and he eventually drove his way back to the Batcave. There, he met with his trustworthy butler, Alfred, who suggested that he should be a part of a team consisting of other super heroes. Bruce then decided to go to Metropolis to get some more gadgets for the Batcave, and some updates for the Batmobile. Little did Bruce know that six other super heroes - Superman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, The Flash, Martian Manhunter and Aquaman - had their hands full when it came to the rest of the alien teams.
Meanwhile, in Metropolis, Daily Planet reporter Clark Kent is feeling discouraged because his relationship with fellow reporter, Lois Lane, isn’t working out well, but breaking up was the last thing he wanted to do. The relationship was strained because he always left everyone else when danger would arrive in the city, but he had to do so because he was secretly the city’s protector, Superman. He didn’t want to tell Lois because he was afraid that she wouldn’t want to handle his double life and constantly worrying about his safety, but it appears that keeping this secret was eating their relationship away. So that day, Clark decided to confront Lois and tell her that he was Superman, but suddenly, an alien started crawling on the outside of Daily Planet. The second Appellaxian team, Stone-God, has arrived in Metropolis. Clark then rushes into the restroom, then flies through his usual opening in the ceiling and opens up his shirt, revealing the Superman emblem. Superman then confronts the aliens in the Metropolis streets, grabbing two or three of them at once and delivering a solid punch to send them all high in the air, and they then fell to their deaths. Eventually, Superman destroyed every single one of the aliens who was attacking Metropolis. He then returned to the Metropolis building as Clark Kent, with an upset Lois to greet him.
Around the same time, in the deep Amazonian forest, Princess Diana/Wonder Woman - the daughter of Queen Hippolyta and leader of the Amazonian army - was training a young warrior aspiring to join the army, when all of a sudden, the Fire-Lord aliens invaded the base. Diana led the army against the aliens, and what followed was a bloody, intense battle. By the battle’s end, many of the aliens were dead, but Diana’s army suffered a great loss. Diana realized that, should more aliens return, her people would ultimately be destroyed. After much pleading with Hippolyta, Diana decided to go to a city in the United States to recruit a few super beings to ally with should the aliens return. She decided to visit Metropolis, home of the world renown Superman.
Simultaneously to all these events, on the planet Mars, another alien race known as Martians were experiencing a crisis of their own. The Mercury Monster aliens have arrived to wipe out the civilization, and they won’t stop at nothing to accomplish this work. In one house, a martian named J’onn J’onzz was hidden while he watched his family brutally murdered by the Mercury Monster race. After the race left the planet, J’onzz wondered about, marveling horrendously at the reality of the moment - he was the only one of his kind alive at that moment. Realizing that he had no reason to stay at Mars, he decides to visit Planet Earth in the disguise of a detective only known as John. He decides to live in Metropolis in hopes of finding allies in the sudden war against these alien races.
Going on around the same time, in Coast City, a test pilot named Hal Jordan was flying around with his recently discovered power, the Green Lantern ring - which gives him the power to ‘turn thought into reality’. He recently decided to propose to his girlfriend and fellow pilot, Carol Ferris, and was on his way to announce the proposal. But suddenly, he was knocked down in mid-air by a Glass-Man alien, one of the few of the races who could fly. By the time Hal realized what was going on, a swarm of Glass-Man aliens were ready for battle in the air. Hal formed a chainsaw with his ring and decapitated a couple of the aliens while slicing another in half, before another alien started punching his ribs. Hal then formed a machine gun and blew away the rest of the swarm. Although Hal won the battle, he realized the danger that was now threatening Carol. He convinces her that the two should move to Metropolis - which was considered the safest city thus far, with Superman protecting it - until things are totally clear in Coast City.
When all these things were happening, two more incidents happened. The first happened in the underwater city of Atlantis. Arthur Curry - also known as Aquaman, the king of Atlantis - was attacked by the Golden Roc aliens, and he led a valiant army in an intense undersea battle. The forces of Atlantis won a narrow victory, but Aquaman wanted to watch over the city for as long as possible. The other incident occurred in Central City. Barry Allen - whose secret identity is The Flash, known as the Fastest Man Alive - had a brutal battle with the Crystal Creature aliens in the outskirts of the city. Barry ran around the half-dozen aliens until a whirlwind was formed and carried the aliens far away. Barry then attacked those aliens until they were too weak to get up. He also decided that Metropolis was the best place to be at the moment, after sighting a billboard promoting the city with an image of Superman towering over it.
A couple days later, a slew of new visitors entered Metropolis - Bruce Wayne, Diana, Barry Allen, John J’onzz and Hal Jordan (and Carol). Clark Kent was doing a write up for the Daily Planet about the alien attacks and included reports from other locations that were attacked - Gotham, Central, and Coast City among them - and managed to earn interviews with Bruce, Barry and Hal, who all gave their accounts of the attacks (except Bruce didn’t tell his side of the story - he didn’t want to give away the fact that he was Batman). Later, while Bruce and Clark were talking in Clark’s Daily Planet office at night, Bruce revealed the fact that he was Batman, much to Clark’s astonishment (Clark then revealed that he was Superman). J’onzz, who was secretly present, came up and revealed his true identity, Martian Manhunter, and talked about his side of what happened - one alien race attacked his home planet of Mars until he was the only one left of his kind. He begged Bruce and Clark to form a team of fellow super heroes to defeat all the alien races, as he feared that all of them will return in one massive army to take down the world. Both Clark and Bruce eventually agreed to this, and the next day, in a secret base, Clark invited Bruce, Manhunter, Diana, Hal, and Barry over for a meeting. There, they all revealed their identities to each other and promised not to spread the information to others unless necessary. Clark then announced that they all need to unite to take down a common threat, and (with all the characters in costume) the team decided to go out and find one more ally to take on the aliens - Aquaman, whose city of Atlantis was attacked earlier by an alien race.
The group decides to pay Atlantis a visit to discuss the attack with Aquaman. In the meeting, Aquaman reluctantly agrees to leaving Atlantis temporarily to join this new team to prepare for the next attack from these aliens.
Meanwhile, back on Apokolips, Darkseid summons the alien races together and announced that the time was right to attack Earth. The aliens then have a sort of party to celebrate their likely conquest of the most intelligent planet in the universe. They then boarded spaceships to fly to earth for the attack.
Back in the United States, the US military is preparing for the invasion, with their tanks, machine guns, and everything else ready for an all-out war. Among these soldiers was an archer named Oliver Queen, who was a master at the bow-and-arrow.
The next day, the team is in their base talking about how they could expand should they remain a team. They also went through possible names. Flash jokingly suggested ‘Super Friends’, while Batman suggested ‘Justice League’. Superman then decided that either of those would be the name of the team. But before the final decision was made, Wonder Woman glanced out the window and saw a league of alien ships coming down to the city. The invasion has begun.
The team raced out of their hideout - with Superman, Green Lantern, Wonder Woman and Martian Manhunter in the air, while Batman, Flash and Aquaman were on the ground - ready to battle. A dozen aliens from each ship dropped to the ground, ready for a one-on-one battle with each hero - Batman vs. Wood King, Martian Manhunter vs. Mercury Monster, and so on - in perhaps the most intense battle in Metropolis. Aquaman stabbed a few Golden Roc aliens with his pitchfork, his most well known weapon, while Green Lantern was hammering a bunch of Glass-Man aliens with a hammer made from his ring. When about half of the aliens that were attacking were dead, Flash raced around the remaining aliens until they were high up in a tornado, with Green Lantern and Superman pounding them high in the air. Wonder Woman tied a couple with her lasso, while Batman jumped on the back of one and snapped its neck. When all of the aliens were finally defeated, the group started attacking the ships - Batman was riding on Superman, Flash was being carried by Wonder Woman, and Aquaman was being held by a hand formed from Green Lantern’s ring. Superman dropped Batman off on top of one of the ships with Flash and Aquaman to join him, while Supes then shot a lazar beam from his eyes at another ship, bringing the entire thing down. Superman caught the ship in mid air to keep it from falling on the city, and dropped it into a nearby ocean.
On the first ship, aliens were fighting tooth and nail against Batman, Flash and Aquaman. Flash was pounding at the speed of sound one alien in the face, while Aquaman’s hand was sliced off by another alien, before Batman tossed a bataring into that alien’s face and it exploded, tearing his face apart. Meanwhile, on another ship, Green Lantern shot a ship down with a machine gun from his ring while Wonder Woman was tugging it with her lasso, so they could also drop it into the ocean. This action repeated for the remaining ships, as well as Superman’s actions. On top of another building, Martian Manhunter confronted the leader of the Mercury Monster race, the same leader who murdered his family not too long ago on Mars. Martian kicked the leader off the ship, where he fell to a perilous death. Another alien from behind tried to stab Martian in the back, but was punched off and he, too, fell to his death.
Finally, after a long battle, all the aliens were gone. The team was awarded with a golden medal for each by the President of the United States, and the team decided to take on the name, ‘The Justice League Of America’, or ‘Justice League’ for short. They decided to stay a team for good, as they always wanted to remain together should another such threat arrive on Earth. But to accomplish this, they decided to recruit many more heroes. They accepted such heroes as Oliver Queen (now nicknamed the ‘Green Arrow), and his girlfriend, Black Canary, as well as Hawkman, Plastic Man, and many more. Aquaman also received a hook to replace his hand that was sliced off earlier in battle.
AFTER CREDITS: Back on Apokolips, a very angry Darkseid decides to create a monster known as Doomsday, who is believed to be immortal and nearly impossible to defeat. Darkseid creates him with the idea in mind that Superman must die. (This is to set up for a Superman: Doomsday film, and will be focused on the second JLA film.)
That's what I have. again, if you want to see something changed, feel free to comment and I'll change it in the script if necessary.
