FAN-ticizing: My Wishes For Avengers 3

Captain America: The Winter Soldier is still fresh on our minds, Avengers: Age of Ultron is only filming, but I have a few things to say about Avengers 3.

Joss Whedon has said he's saving Thanos for his "third act," and Guardians of the Galaxy has been confirmed to have a strong connection to Avengers 3. So, for the sake of this article we will assume that Whedon will direct Avengers 3 and that Thanos will be the villain. So let's get started. What does GliderMan want from Avengers 3?

5. The Return of Loki
Ah yes, Tom Hiddleston, a character-defining actor rivaled only by Robert Downey Jr. himself. We've got three films with his deliciously evil character Loki, and while we have been damn lucky to get those, it sure hasn't stopped the wave of fanboys from crying for more. And hell yes, I want more, and I'll take more, please and thank you.

But I don't want him in Avengers 3 just for the hell of it; for something to be in a movie, it needs to have meaning. To explain his usage, I must first point you to the greatest CBM trilogy of all time: The Dark Knight trilogy. In each of those movies, there was something that connected that movie to the other two. In Batman Begins, it was the Joker card that foreshadowed the sequel's villain. The Dark Knight took place soon after the first film, Scarecrow returned from the first film, and the death of Two-Face haunted The Dark Knight Rises. The last movie also showed the return of the League of Assassins, via R'as al Ghul's daughter. This is what I love the most about the trilogy; what makes it feel like one big cohesive story.

Similarly, I think each of the Avengers films in Whedon's trilogy should have something in them that connects them to each other. The first film not only showcased the origin of the team but also teased Thanos, the "overlord of villainy and darkness," who is all but confirmed to be the villain of Avengers 3. Hell, the whole reason Loki got the chance to terrorize Earth was because Thanos supplied the resources, so that's a direct connection there. Also, this would solve an unresolved plot line. In The Avengers, the Other tells Loki: "If you fail, if the Tesseract is kept from us...there will be no realm, no barren moon where he can't find you. You think you know pain? He will make you long for something sweet as pain." Well, guess what, fellers, the Tesseract was kept from them, and this plot line shouldn't stay unresolved forever. Loki can maybe team-up with the Avengers in a more redemptive story-line, he could be the damsel in distress, or, the option I prefer the most, Thanos can use Loki to distract the Avengers while he sneaks into Asgard, to get the Infinity Gauntlet and reap destruction.

I suppose Ultron could do the same thing. Thanos could gain access to Ultron's body somehow and give Ultron a chance at vengeance at the Avengers (ba dum tss). Hell, I wouldn't complain. But I think it would help the film's story, and the greater MCU story as a whole, to use Loki instead.

Also, I think somebody might bite the dust in Avengers 2 ("death, death and death"), which will serve the same purpose as Two-Face in The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises, bringing strong story-wise connectivity to the Avengers 3.

4. Thor Crowned King
Okay, so this is more of a Thor 3 thing, but let me explain. The Avengers, as well as Earth, think of Thor as the Norse god (with some exceptions) that turned out to be true. What cooler way to reintroduce Thor than to have him come back to Earth as the King of Asgard? It would give Thor a reason to wear his helmet, too. All these fanboys are crying out for him to wear his iconic, somewhat nerdy helmet, but they fail to give any rhyme or reason. They want it just for the sake of nerdom. The truth is, Thor doesn't seem too fond of his helmet in the three films he's been in so far, and having him wear it for a longer period of time wouldn't make sense to the general audience who have seen him with long luscious wig-hair. He only wore it at the beginning of Thor when he was about to be made king. After (most likely) taking down Loki in Thor 3, and with Odin presumably dead, Thor should be made king of Asgard. He truly does want what's best, and it seems like he's gaining the experience to know what's best. Having him wear the helmet, for a short period of time, would give the fanboys what they want as well as establishing his newfound authority.

3. The Absence of S.H.I.E.L.D.
Everyone was bitching about how S.H.I.E.L.D. didn't show up for Iron Man 3 or Thor: The Dark World, and I thought those people were ridiculous. For me, it was a breath of fresh air. S.H.I.E.L.D. has been mentioned in every freaking Marvel Studios movie so far. Sure they're a freaking government agency, but damn people, they can be doing something else. Think about all the action movies you've seen that didn't mention the FBI. Did you freak? No, because that's something you can get over. Sure, Iron Man 3 would have been a proper situation for them to show up, but they didn't... And it worked. Or at least, $1,215,439,994 says it did. Samuel Jackson has stated Nick Fury is taking a backseat in Avengers 2, so that's definitely a good sign. I'm sure S.H.I.E.L.D. will at least be mentioned--it's [frick]ing inevitable--but as Thanos is more of a cosmic threat, let's leave them out of this one.

Please.

2. Roster Rotation
In the first Avengers movie, we got six members. I'm sure we all know who they are. In the Avengers 2, we're getting four more: Quicksilver, Scarlet Witch, War Machine, and the Vision. Y'all, that's ten Avengers. Some may argue that War Machine/Iron Patriot hasn't been confirmed to be on the team, but who cares. That's ten superheroes, most likely ten Avengers. That's not rotation, that's expansion.

Sure, over time, the roster grew in numbers. But everyone's coming back, no one's leaving from the first film. Who knows, maybe that's necessary, I'm not Joss Whedon. But Kevin Feige promised us a rotating roster, like the comics. And like the comics, I want some to go and some to stay. We know Iron Man, Thor and Captain America are all going to be in the Avengers 3 (I personally don't think they'd announce RDJ if he was just going to be a flash-back, and Thor and Cap are more Avengers than he is). Quicksilver, Scarlet Witch and Vision are just being introduced, so I seriously doubt that they'll die or leave. I hope Black Widow and Hawkeye leave the team. I wouldn't mind Hulk leaving--in the comics, he only stayed to beat Loki, and they he was gone for a time--but I wouldn't be too bothered by his staying, either. But somebody's got to leave for this roster to rotate.

1. Captain America Picking Up Mjolnir
"He's everything I wanna be as a man. He's just good for the sake of good."
--Chris Evans

This is my top wish because I think it would be the most epic scene of the whole series, regardless how many movies they make afterwards. Steve Rogers is pretty much the best role model of the team. He's a Christian. He's a soldier. He's a savior. No matter who you are, there's something in him you can relate to, or want to relate to. He's my favorite superhero, and if there's any other hero in the Marvel Cinematic Universe who is worthy to use Mjolnir, it is him. Some people want him to just pick it up and hand it to Thor, casually, in a funny scene. I think it'd be cool, but it'd be much more epic to see him pick it up (perhaps have the Asgardian magic change his costume? hehe) and use it, being a freaking badass. Since this will most likely be the last appearance of Chris Evans as him, it'd be a great way for him to go out, to be able to do an enormous scene like that. When Loki and Captain America fought in the Avengers, I had a nerdgasm. I think if Cap picked up Thor's hammer, I would never feel the desire to have sex again.

HONORABLE MENTION

What's a superhero film without a little fandom romance?

As Loki/Ultron is distracting the Avengers, Thanos would be stealing the Infinity Gauntlet and wrecking havoc on Asgard. Afterwards, the Avengers travel to Asgard and investigate.
Thanks for reading, CBM! Let me know what YOU want from the Avengers series in the usual place!

Thanos wrecking shit in Asgard would be EPIC! Also Cap picking up mjolnir would be so badass! Good ideas

It would actually be really interesting if a lot of Avengers 3 took place in Asgard. We can see the war for the Infinity Gauntlet taking place and then after it's wrecked, Thanos sets his sights on Earth. We could have a handful of the Avengers fight alongside Thor in Asgard before they join the rest back on Earth. I just really want to see a scene where Thor, Iron Man, Hulk, Lady Sif/Warriors 3, and Scarlet Witch are leading a huge battle in Asgard. It's not like a large LotR type of epic battle can happen on Earth. Who, aside from the Avengers, would take down hoards of alien invaders.

Glorified Loki cameo or 5 minutes screen time at best. We've had too much Loki lately

Here's what I want for Avengers 4:
.Scarlet Witch and Vision romance.
.Hawkeye leading a "black ops Avengers" team with Mockingbird, Moon Knight, Vision, Quicksilver, Scarlet Witch and two HYDRA experiment survivors: Tigra and Wonder Man.
. Masters of Evil with the return of the Red Skull.

Thumbs up buddy. As soon as I saw your number one wish I screamed because that's something I have ALWAYS wanted to see.

Badass doesn't even describe how it would be. But knowing Whedon he might put it in an emotional-stakes-are-high type scene but whatever.

Captain America wielding mjolnir needs to happen !!!

In Thor 3 they need to define Loki as NOT A GOOD GUY! The Avengers Loki was good and they're on the right track with The Dark World, but he totally overshadowed Malekith who would have been a badass villain otherwise. Make Loki a ruthless [frick]ing [foo foo] in the next movie

Also, there was too much joking during the final battle of Thor: The Dark World, no consistency whatsoever, suddenly they're fighting then cut-to Darcy and Ian having silly fun times [frick] NO! Give Darcy a cameo in the next one and then have Erik die by like defending Jane from the Enchantress

We're going to see Loki in the third Thor movie. Likely Hela too, IF they keep going the Walt Simonson route (everyone's fan favorite from the 80s). Since Odin is either locked somewhere or dead, we'll be getting more of the stories where he's believed dead (which involve Surtur).

As for the third Avengers, I can't even make that prediction without having even seen a trailer from Age of Ultron, much less everything that goes on in the MCU's third stage.

I can tell you what I REALLY don't want to see.
Thanos. Sucks for me, right?

But really, they need to rewrite the character if they want to avoid the movie becoming a really bad Doctor Who episode.
Thanos does it all for love? For whom? For Death?
So is Death a personification now? How about all the other ones? Chaos and Eternity? Wouldn't Death be Hela? So let's say they chose to make Death something else.... what choices have we?
Not much really. Thanos could be a schizo and see Death as a woman, but would that work? He destroys half the universe because of someone who isn't even there? And for all her dialogue in Infinity Gauntlet, she might as well not exist. Just Thanos being weird. Don't like it.

Just as well, we have Thanos gain UNLIMITED power. Power over time, space, energy, the mind, the very soul. And what does he do? He kills off most of the Marvel heroes in one big short one-issue battle. When that's not enough, he decides to reach a higher power of being. And then Adam Warlock reveals that Thanos never thought he deserved power, which is why he lets himself get defeated, on accident. What? What's the point?

Give Thanos some definition, PLEASE. And geez, do we really want to see Thanos basically turn into an energy blasting Hulk who has all the Avengers attacking him at once? How long would that last? Would the build-up from all the movies have just lead to a 5-10 minute losing battle?

---

Hmmm ok, well, I would like to see Wasp. I'd like to see Janet grow on people. She's one of the most hated female superheros in Marvel comics, and people were delighted that she died at the end of Secret Invasion (I thought it was handled terribly). Let's see a turn-around. Let's see Janet become the underdog, not just the Avengers' mascot and unofficial prostitute.

Rotating roster - completely agree. But here's the issue...
Ultron is bad ass, and a large team is necessary to beat him (even though they repelled an alien invasion with six!), so how many would it take to beat Thanos?

Thanos is being set up as Whedon's Big Bad and I fear the only "rotation" we see is going to be the death of Black Widow/Hawkeye. Whichever one doesn't die might leave the team anyway, but that isn't rotation. And the possibility of the Defenders and/or Guardians showing up to help is scary in terms of team size.

i want to see thor die in avengers AOU and then return in thor 3. he's their biggest hitter (sort of) to see him fall at ultron's feet would be epic. i would also like to see ultron/ ultron bot's kill jane that would make him really pissed and he cold say the famous line.

regarding cap im imagineing thor being thrown to the side and reaching for mijlnior but then thanos/ thano's minions cut's his hand of we see thanos all villainous. then we see cap o the floor he stands up grab's mijlnior we hear odin's line in the background (if he be worthy shall posses the power of thor)cap pick's it up and there is lightning everywhere. that would be so cool.

I'm kind of surprised they don't use Thor's helmet more. It doesn't bother me either way, but I thought the helmet looked pretty awesome in the first Thor movie for the minute he actually had it on. It wasn't too big or ridiculous looking at all. Again, I thought it looked pretty awesome.

But I find it hard to believe that they couldn't make a more padded helmet for his comfort.

I like this! Loki is king now. That means he can just hand the Tesseract AND the Gauntlet to Thanos. He will be at Thanos right hand. He can take Mephistos place in the Infinity Gauntlet story. They will have to make some changes though. They do need to show us that these entities exist for us to believe hes in love with Death. It works in the comics cause we know shes real. Hell yes to the Hammer! I want to see Steve lift it.
WYLEEJAY
WYLEEJAY - 4/16/2014, 8:04 AM
I have an interesting idea to add to yours. What if Red Skull is with Thanos? What if he has been the entire time? When he picked up the Tesseract, all he wanted was to be with the gods, and have their power. The Tesseract transported him to the most powerful being in the galaxy. Thanos. Since Galactus isnt in the MCU, and we have seen Odin get hurt from an Ice Giant, Thanos is the most powerful that we know of right? So Red Skull has been with Thanos, and thats how Thanos knows where the Tesseract is from the Avengers, and used Loki to bring it to him. Maybe he contacted Hydra a long time ago, and Hydra is still following his orders. Strucker answers to Skull. Only problem I see with this idea is the missile the council launched at New York in the Avengers. Now that we know Hydra was a part of that council, why would they try to stop Lokis army if Skull and Loki are playing for the same team? Does Skull want him to fail?

Cap ain't going to lift Thor's hammer if Thor is King because King Thor will have the Odin force and will be able to beat anyone . The only reason Cap would lift the hammer is if Thor falls . I can't see King Thor getting beat by anyone .

I'm gonna answer my own question. Of course Red Skull would want Loki to fail! He wants what Thanos can provide to him. He wouldn't want to share it. Power.

This would connect the entire three phases. Especially if Hydra has their hand in Ultrons creation. Thanos, with Red Skull and Loki at his sides. Cant picture anything more connected and amazing than three of the worst in Avengers 3!

Good stuff, man.

One of my favourite Avengers comics was in earlier in Busiek's run. I think it was.. the fourth issue, maybe? I don't remember exactly, but it was after they'd fought Morgan le Fay. Anyway, the story was basically: "we got WAY too many f*cking dudes up in here, maaaaaaaaaaaaan. F*cking sausages EVERYWHERE, maaaaaaaaaaaaan"..

Well, at least.. that's my way of summing it up. Anyway, they decide to sit down and go through all the candidates to try and see who should stay, and who should hit the streets and work the street corners, and alleys (again, this is just my way of summing it up. I'm weird like that). In the end, they decide to leave.. I think it was two, or three of the founding members on the new team to sorta, like.. show the new guys the ropes, y'know? I'm a sucker for the whole "passing the torch" thing, so it'd be pretty cool to see how that's done in the movies.

Heh, I remember at one point in the issue they have this part where Ms. Marvel's hanging around the bar and lookin' through all the bottles an' shit, and I remember thinkin' "yeah, she looks like she could drink half of these dudes under the table. I'd pick 'er. Looks like a fun girl".

I'd make a terrible team leader.

I want to see Thor stomp ass in Avengers 2 and 3, make him as powerful as the J. Michael Scrazinski Thor who returned and was able to destroy Iron Man easy, in the Avengers Iron Man was able to knock him through trees and throw him around like a ragdoll. Thor needs to not hold back, he should be able to decimate any of his teammates -save Hulk who he could send across the galaxy by opening a portal with mjolnir.

@tainted, yeah, I totally agree about this whole "Death being a woman who Thanos loves" thing, it would just be incredibly stupid. Jumping the shark stupid. However, I have doubts as to whether Thanos gets used in Avengers 3, or is held till later.

Why would Thor wear his helmet just because he's king? It's a helmet, not a crown. It looks stupid, he doesn't really need it, so leave it out.

No more Loki, except in Thor movies, or scenes on Asguard in Avengers movies. I don't quite get why some fanboys like him so much.

No, an android and an extremely hot woman being in love is NOT cool. It's stupid, and should not be copied. Find her an actual man (not her brother either) to get with. Not sure who though.

It would probably be very cool to see Cap picking up the Hammer. But, if seeing that happen is enough to make you never want to have sex again, then obviously you have not been having very good sex. Or any. Lol
