Dragonball was massacred with Evolution, Hammy acting, bad casting, it just not being the world of DB. I say start over, but sell the rights to a better studio, because FOX just doesn't know how to make a movie. Start right at 'Z', its the more intersting manga/series, and adapt the Saiyan, Frieza, and Cell sagas, with a more 'epic' scope. Keep it all futuristic and get the whole Galactic feeling out there, so include races of aliens seen in the manga/show. This could be a very defining series like Star Wars or the Matrix if done right. As for the race problem ive seen on some forums ive been on, I just always had the thinking that certain characters were asian, while others caucasian, and I think they'd work better that way. Now, this would be my dream cast.
THE CAST!
Son Goku - Matthew Bomer
With Goku, I wanted to find someone who could be very
charasmatic and likeable, someone who could that fun,
bubbly side to Goku, and turn on the seriousness when it
came to fighting evil. Bomer fits the bill, and has a great
likenesss for goku, too. IMO hes absolutely perfect for Son Goku.
Piccolo - Djimon Honsou
Djimon is one of my favorite actors, ever. Piccolo needs
someone who can be intimidating, who can bring a great fierce
performance to the table, only thing is I would make Djimon
look more namekien with the ears of course, as well as a cgi'd
nose ala Voldemort (Except not completely gone, just sharper) and
skin texture that doesn't resemble a humans, maybe just smooth.
Vegeta - Ben Foster
Vegeta is characterized by short but ferocious attitude, and
Foster has the absolute perfect build for him as well as looking
just like the Prince, just needs a change of hair color but thats it.
Ben can act his arse off, I loved him in 30 Days of Night, Alpha Dog,
and Pandorum.
Trunks - Jared Padalecki
I love Jared on Supernatural, and I believe hes getting better
at acting, and his features line up well with Trunks, Bulmas son
who comes from the future to warn of the Androids.
Teen Gohan - Colin Ford
Colin does great on Supernatural, which is where I noticed
that he has an uncanny resemblance to Gohan in his Teen years,
after he trains in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber.
Adult Gohan - Milo Ventigmilia
An actor I love from Heroes and Rocy Balboa, Milos perfect
for the adult Gohan of the future, whos mentor to Trunks, and
gets killed by the Androids.
Bulma - Kaley Cuoco
Bulma needs someone who can be cute and sexy, and have big
eyes, too. Kaley has all that in one package, and her big beautiful
eyes can be seen most famously on The Big Bang Theory, a show I love.
ChiChi - Ziyi Zhang
I thought back to House of Flying Daggers on this one, and I
think I hit a dead ringer for Chi-Chi.Ziyis one of the best Asian
actresses out, and deserves more work, unfortunately, she remains
under-rated.
Krillin - Shaobo Qin
Way back when on a manga forum thread, someone mentioned
Shaobo as Krillin and I thought that it was just too perfect,
I remember him from the Oceans series as The Amazing Yen
Master Roshi - James Hong
It took me a while to think of someone who could pull off
the pervy old man that roshi is, but Hong just came to me, and
personally I think this should just happen. I loved him in Balls
of Fury and Kung Fu Panda.
Yamcha - Rain
Rain was an absolute badass in Ninja Assasin, and hes huge
in Asia already besides rising in America slowly as of late.
Since his looks also match up, he would no doubt be great.
Tenhenshen/Tien - Daniel Dae Kim
Daniel is brilliant. He was probably my favorite actor off
of Lost, and deserves more and bigger roles. I think he fits
really well as Tenhenshen.
Kami - Christopher Lee
Christopher is just frickin fantastic. his voice is the
epitome of epicness, and it should definitely be the voice
radiating from a live-action Kami, piccolos other half.
Mr. Popo - Lester Speight
Now, Lester might seem an odd choice, but I watching him on
My Wife and Kids and his voice matched up beautifully with Popos,
and his lines just screamed Popo to me. Id have Popo like he looks
in the Manga/show, though, with completely black skin with a
'shine' to it and the simple face.
Mr. Satan/Hercule - Bruce Campbell
Oh, gotta love Bruce 'The Chin' Campbell. The dudes the baddest
man alive. Im a HUGE fan of the Evil Dead series, and just look
at that if you don't think Bruce wouldn't absolutely steal the show
as Mr. Satan
Bardock - Josh Brolin
Josh is one of my favorite actors. Ive loved him in No Country
For Old Men and Ture Grit, and I just thought his badassery matches
up with Bardocks, Gokus father.
King Vegeta - Christian Bale
It could be said that Bale himself would be a good Vegeta, but
he would truly own as King Vegeta. Bale is just phenomenal, from
Patrick Bateman in American Psycho, to Bruce Wayne, to Dickie in
The Fighter, the dude never ceases to amaze with his talent.
Raditz - Alexander Skarsgard
I friggin love Alex on True Blood, hes a badass. I think he
could definitely translate well as Gokus brother, Raditz
Nappa - Dominic Purcell
The build of Nappa is that of a wrestler, but damn, I just
hate wrestlers when it comes to acting especially. Now while
Nappa isn't a huge role either, he at least needs a decent actor.
Dominic was great in Prison Break, and has the build down, so it
should be done.
Dr. Gero - Terence Stamp
We all know Terence. I love him in Supes 2, Adjustment Bureau,
even Get Smart and other, and his very creppy intensity, is
perfect for Gero. I always found the Android saga intruiging,
and creepy, and if done right could be very good storytelling
Android 16 - Kevin Durand
Kev is starting to prove himself as an actor. Though you
probably know him best as the Blob, he was also great in Robin hood.
His facial features line up perfectly with the more sympathetic 16.
Android 17 - Thomas Dekker
Finding someone for 17 was actually kind of hard. But
eventually, I remembered Dekker, who was great in The Sarah
Conner Chronicles. He definitely has the creepy blank stare
down for 17
Android 18 - Teresa Palmer
I liked Teresa in The Sorcerers Apprentice and I Am Number Four
(crappy movies but she was good) and she has the creepy but cute
thing down perfectly for 18.
Frieza - Michael C. Hall
Michaels range is insane, from his role on 6 Feet Under,
to Dexter, to Gamer, hes an amazing actor who would absolutely
positively own as Frieza.
Cell - Patrick Wilson
For Cell, I wanted to pick someone whos just a really,
really great actor, and can have a creepy edge to him.
Facial-wise Patrick looks the part of the 'Perfect' Cell,
and would work his acting skill hard to be cold and embody
pure evil. Cell is my favorite villain and deserves a perfect
performance, just let the Gym, The armor, and cgi do the rest.
