Is Loki a Good Villain for The Avengers?

And there came a day unlike any other, where Earths mightiest heroes found themselves united against a common threat. And that threat is...Loki?

We all know that Loki will be the main villain in The Avengers, but is he a big enough threat? My personal opinion is yes. But in this editorial I will explain why.

First off,Loki is a Thor villain. For a good villain we would need either a Thor villain or a Hulk villain. And if not those a villain that is from space. We've already seen Loki, but is that a bad thing? We don't need some crackpot back story. If you wanna see Loki's origin just watch THOR. We know his personality and a portion of what he's capable of. Tom Hiddleston said Loki would be "less princely" an "asgardian pirate". Basically he'll be darker. Which by the first close shot of him in the Avengers trailer we can see clearly. I remember thinking "Wow he is darker".

Second,Loki is powerful enough to take on the Avengers single handedly. Without Thor may I add. Capt maybe a super soldier but Loki is...well Loki. Capt maybe an excellent fighter but he can't fight an Asgardian even if the trailer my give us that impression. Iron Man can't either. Remember Hiddleston saying "I think Iron Man's blasts hurt a little". I would suspect that a full power Uni Beam would at least slow him long enough for Capt to smack him with his shield. Hawkeye and Black Widow well...do I really need to explain?

Third his intellect. I saved Hulk for this one. At this point I will be going by what Marvel says on Loki's character. He has genius intellect. If making those holographic clones thingys oc his wasn't enough to stop the Hulk most likely he could out smart the Hulk and beat him. Depending on how smart Hulk is in the movie. Apparently he will smart enough to take orders. Seeing if that "Hulk smash" line from Capt is true. Also if there was anyone who I would have in an escape from S.H.I.E.L.D. Helecarrier scene it would be Loki. Seeing him trick the Avengers using those clone things would be so awesome. Also with Loki comes unpredictably. You'll never know what he'll throw at you. Case and point the mysterious army and this Leviathan creature/mother ship. With Hiddleston as Loki we will get a sympathetic villian, who's menacing with great motivation. Could we have a better villain?

Dunno. I have to see the film to judge because, contrary to most people here, I don't diss a film before it comes out based on what has been shown to me in out-of-context set photos or even trailers (trailers are prone to lying).

As long as he has an army to back him up, sure.
He's a bad-ass so I don't have a problem with him

He was great in Thor, so I'm confident that he'll do great in The Avengers. I like the action footage I've seen so far

Hell yes. Loki is the shit. I mean Loki was the reason why they formed in the first place.

Have to wait and see, hopefully it's a good choice. However I wish they'd have introduced a new villain.

Absolutely, Loki was the best choice and actually the most obvious if u think about it. It ties all the movies together by him being the villain and gives Thor a reason to come back to Earth, also, Loki is the only bad guy in the MCU that we've seen so far powerful and cunning enough to warrant the forming of the Avengers. Not to mention that Loki appeared in the original first issue of The Avengers comic way back when, and that to me is a great way to do it.

He is an awesome choice as the villain to unite the Avengers. In Thor he was devious but not completely evil as he still had the opportunity to rule Asgard, not as a conqueror but as a saviour (albeit false from his own plans). This has now been ripped away from him. He has nothing but hatred and resentment left. This means he can, and will, go all out and be ruthless in his efforts to be a ruler. Like you say, he can beat any Avenger in single combat (yes, he even has what it takes to beat Thor) and he could take them all on at once, minus Thor and Hulk, and win with relative ease. After all, he's a god! Or at least god-like in his power. Add to that his cunning, silver tongue and mastery of deception and you have a man who can plan his strike far more effectively than most. He has an army, which are merely his pawns. Loki will be a force to be reckoned with. I just hope the movie doesn't follow the same predictable pattern as all the other Marvel movies so far. Can't put my finger on it but it's like you can almost see the formular they use and predict where the movie is going far too easily.

He's the mastermind. His army /ally will be his right hand of destruction.

Unless he's being used too...

I'll just say that I hope he is awesome in the Avengers. He was a great character, but a horrible villain in Thor. But that was Branagh, this is Wheadon. I can't wait to see one way or the other on opening day!
