I brought this up when I did my Fan Cast for Red Skull. The obvious pick of Joe Johnston for directing the Captain America movie we are all awaiting. So what do I think of this? It's perfect. I can't wait for his take on Cap. Why? Because he directed one of my favorite comic book movies, "Rocketeer." If you think about it, both movies take place around the same time period so Johnston can do a period piece film with comic book characters. Both involve an ordinary guy who becomes a hero and involve Nazi's. He's a very practical effects director. I know "Wolfman" and "Jurassic Park 3" have some digital effects in them, but it's not engulfing the whole film. Seeing how they did "Rocketeer" back in the 90's, he can pull it off well. I'm not trying to make this completely about "Rocketeer," I know he has done other movies, but this will be his return to the genre. From what he has said that it's gonna be like the comics yet totally different at the same time really makes me wonder how cool he's going to do this film. So far the casting for Cap is underway and I really can't pick a person. All I know is that whomever we get, our community will argue or praise the choice but not all will be happy. So before a great war over it, let's not be split on this, let us all remain hopeful for how he will make this film. Hopefully, we get scenes similar to "Saving Private Ryan," insert Cap. That fan poster of the shield on his back on the beach is really really cool. They better use it or retool it to make it even more awesome. So here's best of luck to him and the future crew of "Captain America" and to a potentially great film that leads us into the make or break film for MARVEL: THE AVENGERS.
