To start off, I want to say that Ben Affleck was not my first choice for Batman, and when I heard the news it was a head scratcher for me. That being said, I think it would be wise to wait and see, because we have all questioned casting before. We've been right, and we've also been wrong. We should wait and see before we start petitions and riot all over the internet, because if we end up wrong, we look like a bunch of dumb A-holes.
Now that that's over with, let me share with you my idea for Batman before the Ben Affleck casting.
Benedict Cumberbatch as Bruce Wayne/Batman
The Batman I know can cold, brutal, and brilliant. The brilliant role is to me, Cumberbatch's speciality (John Harrison & and Sherlock Holmes for example) and he's very good in those roles. He's a tremendous actor. He could no doubt in my mind, pull off a scary and menacing type Batman. I get the feeling that Batman is going to be introduced as sort of a Anti-hero, which would've been perfect for Cumberbatch.
I think the only real challenge for Cumberbatch would've been pulling off the charming prince of Gotham, Bruce Wayne. But I get the sense, that he has enough acting chops to pull it off.
I would've chosen the Flashpoint Batman suit as inspiration. I think Batman needs to be imitating. This is probably the one look that would scare the hell out of me to be honest.
When I think of how this would be portrayed, I always think of this:
