Synopsis

Following the events of Suicide Squad, Amanda Waller faces an investigation for her handling of Task Force X and the Enchantress in ARGUS. While she seeks to resolidify her standing in the government agency, Dr. Jason Woodrue transforms himself and his Gotham University colleague Dr. Pamela Isley into the villains The Seeder and Poison Ivy respectively. Whilst Poison Ivy seeks help in learning how to control her powers, The Seeder becomes mad with power and uses his new plant-based abilities as a means to enact revenge on those who wronged him at Gotham University and transform the city into a new Garden of Eden. Seeing this as an opportunity to redeem herself in the eyes of ARGUS, Amanda Waller sends the Suicide Squad on their latest operation - stop The Seeder and Poison Ivy from destroying Gotham City by any means necessary. The Suicide Squad's newest leader, John Diggle, doesn't agree with Waller's extreme methods, however, and seeks a more peaceful solution.

The Director

Director: Directors are responsible for overseeing creative aspects of a film under the overall control of the film producer. They often develop the vision for a film and carry out the vision, deciding how the film should look, in other words they make their vision come to life. They are responsible for turning the script into a sequence of shots. They also direct what tone it should have and what an audience should gain from the cinematic experience. Film directors are responsible for deciding camera angles, lens effects and lighting with the help of the cinematographer and set design with the production designer. They will often take part in hiring the cast and key crew members. They coordinate the actors' moves or blocking and also may be involved in the writing, financing and editing of a film.

James Gunn [Notable Works: Super (2010), Guardians of the Galaxy (2014) and Guardians of the Galaxy: Volume 2 (2017)]: Though he was far from my first choice to direct the sequel of Suicide Squad, James Gunn is a highly creative and talented director as best shown with both Guardians movies. Gunn is a natural fit for the Suicide Squad franchise as he has plenty of experience in directing comic-book ensemble movies of eccentric and quirky outcast characters and bringing them together to fight supervillains while embarking on their own journeys of giving themselves and each other purposes in life. I personally hope he doesn’t make the humour of Suicide Squad as childish and light-hearted as the two Guardians movies, and instead he keeps the humour more dark and twisted like the first movie and Gunn’s previous Super movie.

The Cast

Amanda Waller [Age: 50s/60s. Ethnicity: African-American.]: Amanda Waller is a senior high-ranking US government official and the Director of A.R.G.U.S. as well as the commanding officer of Task Force X, while having ties to several other espionage and law enforcement agencies.

Viola Davis [Age: 53. Ethnicity: African-American. Notable Works: Suicide Squad (2016), Fences (2016) and Widows (2018)]: Of all the cast members that should return for the sequel, I believe Viola Davis is the most crucial for the movie’s success, both in terms of continuity and maintain a high class of acting ability. Davis is one of the best actresses alive and someone who I believe Warner Bros. aren’t utilising as best as they could be with the DCEU movies, as Davis proved when winning an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress in the 2016 movie Fences, displaying excellent emotional range and incredible intensity with her co-star Denzel Washington. I want Waller to have a bigger role in the sequel, taking more of a lead role in commanding the squad and sharing more screen-time with the squad which I feel the first movie lacked to some extent.

John Diggle [Age: 40s. Ethnicity: African-American.]: John Diggle is a former soldier of the U.S. Military and the first vigilante partner of Green Arrow. Before starting his vigilante career with Green Arrow, Diggle worked as part of security for Queen Industries.

Idris Elba [Age: 46. Ethnicity: African. Notable Works: The Thor Franchise (2011-2017), Beasts of No Nation (2015) and Star Trek: Beyond (2016)]: Idris Elba is currently tipped to replace Will Smith as Deadshot in the upcoming The Suicide Squad, however I’d much prefer to see him play the role of John Diggle. Will Smith is a major actor in Hollywood who has expressed interest in returning to the role of Deadshot in later Suicide Squad movies and even his own standalone movie, and I don’t believe Warner Bros. should permanently remove him from the DCEU altogether by recasting him with Idris Elba. Instead, Elba would be much better fit to playing the role of John Diggle who, given his past experience as a commanding officer in the US Army, would be a naturally-suited successor to Rick Flag as the new Field Commander of Task Force X.

Harleen Quinzel/Harley Quinn [Age: 20s. Ethnicity: White.]: Doctor Harleen Frances Quinzel is a former psychiatrist employed at Arkham Asylum and a known associate of the Joker, operating under the alias Harley Quinn. After assisting in the Joker's escape from Arkham, Harleen was submerged in a silo of chemicals at Ace Chemicals, re-emerging as the Joker's right hand woman.

Margot Robbie [Age: 28. Ethnicity: White. Notable Works: Suicide Squad (2016), I, Tonya (2017) and Mary Queen of Scots (2018)]: Indisputably the breakout character of the first movie and the squad’s most popular character, Margot Robbie is an extremely talented actress who perhaps brought Harley Quinn to life on the big-screen better and more accurately than any other living actress could. Margot Robbie has been reported to be reprising the role of Harley Quinn in The Suicide Squad after finishing Birds of Prey and I hope that she receives as equal a major role in the next movie as she did in the previous movie.

Roy Harper/Arsenal [Age: Late Teens/Early 20s. Ethnicity: White.]: Roy Harper is the young superhero Arsenal and the formerly sidekick of Green Arrow. He was a member of the Teen Titans and a former member of the Outlaws.

Forrest Goodluck [Age: 20. Ethnicity: Native-American. Notable Works: The Revenant (2015), Indian Horse (2017) and The Miseducation of Cameron Post (2018)]: , Forrest Goodluck demonstrated incredibly talent in his breakout role as Hawk in The Revenant. This is an impressive feat for an actor at such a young age given that Goodluck was starring alongside bigger A-List actors like Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Hardy, yet Goodluck was still able to stand out and shine brilliantly, which makes him a prime actor for Warner Bros. to seek out and cast in a major role at some point in the DCEU. Goodluck would make an excellent Arsenal in the DCEU and would act in many ways as the Suicide Squad’s moral compass and remind them of their troubled childhoods.

Jade Ngyuen/Cheshire [Age: 20s. Ethnicity: French-Vietnamese.]: Cheshire is an assassin and an expert in both martial arts and the use of poisons.

Lana Condor [Age: 21. Ethnicity: Vietnamese. Notable Works: X-Men: Apocalypse (2016), To all the Boys I’ve Loved Before (2018) and Alita: Battle Angel (2019)]: An extremely promising young actress, Lana Condor is no stranger to the comic-book movie genre with her first breakout role as Jubilee in X-Men: Apocalypse. Despite being a big ensemble movie with more well-known actors involved, Condor shined in her role as Jubilee and played the role with such complexity and passion, and would shine even more playing Cheshire in The Suicide Squad. Though Condor will start filming the sequel to To all the Boys I’ve Loved Before this month, she should be free to join filming of The Suicide Squad with James Gunn in September later this year.

Cyrus Gold/Solomon Grundy [Age: N/A. Ethnicity: White.]: Cyrus Gold, better known as Solomon Grundy, is a mindless zombie hell-bent on destruction and usually operates in Gotham City.

Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson [Age: 30. Ethnicity: White. Notable Works: Game of Thrones (2014-Present) and Kickboxer: Retaliation]: At 6ft 9, Hafþór Björnsson is the best living actor alive to play the role of Solomon Grundy in the DCEU and would be able to bring the character’s horror and monstrosity alive perfectly given his similar role as the undead Gregor Clegane in Game of Thrones. I chose Solomon Grundy to join the Suicide Squad in this movie to fill the role as the Team Muscle who does a lot of the heavy-lifting in battle scenes and believe he would be much easier to bring to life on the big-screen in this role compared to other characters like Bane or King Shark, who would require a lot of CGI and other special effects to bring to life.

Caitlin Snow/Killer Frost [Age: Late 20s/Early 30s. Ethnicity: White.]: Caitlin Snow is a former STAR Labs physicist who was transformed by industrial sabotage into the murderous Killer Frost and endued with ice-based superpowers.

Rosa Salazar [Age: 33. Ethnicity: Peruvian. Notable Works: Submerged (2016), Bird Box (2018) and Alita: Battle Angel (2019)]: An actress who has just started to gain leading roles, Rosa Salazar starred in the cyberpunk Alita: Battle Angel this year as the titular character and portrayed the character both with as staggeringly close accuracy to the manga’s original character as possible and an incredible amount of flair. Salazar is no stranger to portraying complex characters and adapting them as perfectly as possible from the source material, making her very well-suited to playing the role of Killer Frost.

Eric Needham/Black Spider [Age: Late 20s/Early 30s. Ethnicity: African-American.]: Black Spider is a ruthless killer vigilante who mainly targets the drug trade. His murderous methods and willingness to let innocents die or be injured in his plans have lead him into repeated conflicts with Batman. While the Black Spider does not see himself as a villain, he is willing to team with villains to achieve his vigilante goals, or to get revenge on Batman.

John David Washington [Age: 34. Ethnicity: African-American. Notable Works: Monsters and Men (2018), Monster (2018) and BlacKkKlansman (2018)]: A rapidly rising actor with well-known Hollywood heritage, John David Washington is quickly making his own name in Hollywood against his legendary father Denzel Washington. Washington most recently starred as the lead in the Academy Award winning BlackKkKlansman, a movie which allowed Washington to portray a character with extraordinary courage and determination in the face of great evil, an impressive skill which Washington could apply again in portraying Black Spider as a member of the Suicide Squad.

Bette Sans Souci/Plastique [Age: 30s. Ethnicity: White.]: Bette San Souci is a terrorist armourer, master of making explosive ordnance for others. Eventually, she went by the name Plastique in public and became a walking bomb with a costume that had different incendiary charges on it. She later gained the power to project concussive blasts and turn objects into bombs.

Elodie Yung [Age: 38. Ethnicity: French-Vietnamese. Notable Works: Narcopolis (2015), Gods of Egypt (2016) and The Hitman’s Bodyguard (2017)]: With the prompt cancellation of Marvel’s Netflix shows, Elodie Yung is now free to move on to countless DC properties and she would not only be welcome in the action-packed Suicide Squad franchise, but practically right at home. Yung has made a name for herself in playing Elektra in Daredevil and The Defenders, making her no stranger to major femme-fatale action roles and also more than capable of playing Plastique with her impressive credentials.

Jason Woodrue/Seeder [Age: 40s/50s. Ethnicity: White.]: Jason Woodrue, also known as the Seeder, is an agent of the Parliament of Trees who saved the life of Alec Holland before he took up his role as the Swamp Thing, and thus was granted limited powers over The Green as a reward.

Rami Malek [Age: 37. Ethnicity: American-Egyptian. Notable Works: Buster’s Mal Heart (2016), Paillon (2017) and Bohemian Rhapsody (2018)]: Perhaps the most prominent rising actor of 2018, Rami Malek is an incredibly versatile actor capable of playing an extraordinary range of different characters with incredible energy and passion. His performance as Freddie Mercury last year was exhilarating to watch and a testament as to how much Malek can commit to a role however unconventional, something which I believe makes him naturally suited to the quirky and unstable Floronic Man. In this film, I would write Jason Woodrue as Pamela Isley’s colleague at Gotham University rather than her professor.

Pamela Isley/Poison Ivy [Age: 20s. Ethnicity: White.]: Pamela Isley, also known as Poison Ivy, is a former Gotham City botanist obsessed with plants, ecological extinction, and environmentalism. Ivy typically wears a green one-piece outfit adorned with leaves and often has plant vines extending over her limbs. She uses plant toxins and mind-controlling pheromones for her criminal activities, which are usually aimed at protecting endangered species and the natural environment.

Eiza Gonzalez [Age: 29. Ethnicity: Mexican. Notable Works: Baby Driver (2017), Paradise Hills (2019) and Alita: Battle Angel (2019)]: An unjustly underrated actress, Eiza Gonzalez is a rising star in Hollywood and is incredibly talented, so much so making her a flawless casting choice to play the role of Poison Ivy. Gonzalez most recently broke fame into Hollywood with her supporting role as Darling in the action-blockbuster Baby Driver and will star in the big budget Fast and Furious spinoff Hobbs and Shaw within a prominent role, making her a much more profitable actress for Warner Bros. to cast one day in the DCEU.
