I've thought about this idea on countless occasions. The original Mighty Morphin Power Rangers series was a classic and if Transformers can be turned into a huge movie franchise, why not the Power Rangers?
I've read the previous fan casts and thought that I'd make one as well. This was purely for fun and would only work if the movie started filming within 2-3 years. I've selected actors mostly in their 20's, which would be ideal to starting a film franchise.
I would prefer if the story would be one that is new and that adds something to the already established history. It would be cool to see the Rangers at another point in their lives. I've read articles about things they were planning on the Turbo movie, but that never ended up happening. It would be interesting to see a Jason/Kimberly romance.
Since younger fans today don't know the original story, a updated tale of the rangers getting their powers would also be fun to watch. If I were to direct the film as a reboot, I would basically use the first 21 episodes as source material. This would basically be the "Green with Evil" saga. Basically, Zedd and RIta would be freed together, they start wreaking havoc by choosing the Evil Green Ranger, Tommy, who does major damage with a wicked new Dragonzord, then Zordon selects the Power Rangers, and then fill in the plot holes, add an ending, and then well most of you should know how the rest goes.
Anyways, I hope you enjoy my fan cast. I've added their ages. This is my first article, so feedback is welcome.
CHRIS PINE AS JASON LEE SCOTT, THE RED RANGER
Jason is my personal favorite Ranger and this was the hardest choice, but I think Chris Pine is the person I'd go with. He has leader written all over him. He was great as Captain Kirk and I think he'd be an ideal choice to play Jason. I also saw him in Unstoppable and anyone else that's seen that will probably agree that he'd be one to put the team before himself. Pine is 30.
KRISTIN KREUK AS TRINI KWAN, THE YELLOW RANGER
Smallville is definitely one of my favorite shows of all-time and with the last few great seasons, I had almost forgotten about Kristin. When I think of Lana during the earlier seasons, I see Trini and I can definitely see Kreuk pulling off a great Trini. She can be kind and compassionate, but also kick serious ass. Kreuk is 28.
ANDREW GARFIELD AS BILLY CRANSTON, THE BLUE RANGER
As soon as I read the first Ranger Fan Cast, I immediately knew that Garfield would be my choice to play Billy. Unfortunately someone else thought the same and was able to post their cast before me. Anyways, Garfield is a terrific actor and can definitely look the part. He's going to be amazing as Peter Parker and I don't see how different of a role Billy would be from that. Garfield is 27.
LYNDSY FONSECA AS KIMBERLY HART, THE PINK RANGER
I have been absolutely in love with this girl ever since I saw her in Kick-Ass. She's gorgeous and could possibly be the Amy Jo Johnson for the new generation. She can be a sweet slightly stuck up girl, but she can also kick some serious butt. If you need to see her in action, check out Nikita. Fonseca is 24.
DONALD GLOVER AS ZACK TAYLOR, THE BLACK RANGER
From what I've seen of Community, this guy is funny and could be great as Zack. He also goes by Childish Gambino, and if you've seen any of his videos, you'll know he has moves. He could be a cool addition to the cast. Glover is 27.
MATTHEW BOMER AS TOMMY OLIVER, THE GREEN RANGER
Matthew Bomer is one suave SOB. First time I saw him was in Chuck and he was the total opposite of Chuck. He was a total badass. He would be a great sixth Ranger because he's not someone that needs the spotlight to shine. He would be a great ally to Jason, but at the same time, a great rival. He's a little older at 33, but I couldn't help but choose him.
MICHAEL CAINE AS ZORDON
I personally think Michael Caine would be excellent in this role just like he is as Alfred in Batman. He would be a perfect mentor to the Rangers.
ZACH BRAFF AS ALPHA 5
Zach Braff is hilarious and has a very unique voice. He would be a nice, new version of Alpha. I think he would make Alpha 5 as memorable as Richard Steven Horvitz did.
SETH ROGEN AND JAMES FRANCO AS BULK AND SKULL
I saw a bunch of posts that had Michael Cera and Jonah Hill as Bulk and Skull, but I just don't see Cera as Skull. Cera is very funny, but Skull is a different kind of funny that I think James Franco would be perfect for. Franco is hilarious and if you've seen Pineapple Express, you know he makes a great team with Seth Rogen. Franco has played a bad boy similar to Skull before in Freaks and Geeks, while not as goofy as Skull, but still I can see him excelling like he does with everything.
MARK CHRISTOPHER LAWRENCE AS ERNIE
Haha, I know the original Ernie is not African-American, but I think Mark Christopher Lawrence would be a great Ernie. He plays a very similar character on Chuck and could be a good addition to the cast.
LUCY LIU AS RITA REPULSA
I would expect an updated Rita to keep up with modern times. Lucy Liu would be interesting in the role. She has the acting skills to be a good villain. She even has the action skills if she needs to. She even also possesses some comedic skills if anyone's seen her in a guest stint on Joey.
HUGO WEAVING AS LORD ZEDD
I initially had Ralph Fiennes in this role, but then I saw Captain America and had to switch to Hugo Weaving. Both are exceptional actors, but I think this kind of role is more in Weaving's line of work. He would make one powerful Zedd.
ISAAC C. SINGLETON JR. AS GOLDAR
I selected Isaac Singleton when I recently saw the first Pirates of the Caribbean over the weekend. He plays a menacing henchman of Barbosa's and Goldar was Rita's greatest henchman. Singleton fits the part and would be a great villain to put up against Jason and Tommy.
LAURA VANDERVOORT AS KATHERINE HILLARD
I thought I'd include this, I like to believe that Tommy and Kat ended up together, so it would be nice to see them married or something in the movie if it is a continuation instead of a reboot. I picked Vandervoort cause she's absolutely beautiful, and she is also great at being innocent and sweet, which is what I remember of Kat. I wouldn't include her if the movie was a reboot. Vandervoort is 26.
Well that's my cast, I hope you enjoyed it, please leave feedback. My cast is mostly based on the film being a reboot and it focusing on the Green With Evil Saga. I thought I'd cover most of the roles that I thought were significant. If I ever achieve my dream of becoming a director, I'd love to make this film happen.
IT'S MORPHIN' TIME!
