One of the most endearing franchises needs a serious reboot. That franchise, Power Rangers, has had two feature films based off the popular TV series. Neither films have captured audiences in a level that transcended the limitations of the Japanese/American show. Many fans, now in their 20s, desire a new version to be shown in theaters. As of the moment, no project is in place, but that doesn't stop the resolve of the most ardent fans. Power Rangers is one of my generation's most precious memories, and my roommate and I have drafted a trilogy/universe that we hope would do great justice to the Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers legacy.

Back-story: Thousands of years ago, the peaceful planet of Eltar was suddenly attacked by an evil emperor, Lord Zedd. Zordon, leader of Eltar, constructed six power coins to be used against Lord Zedd's forces. Zedd suffered a tremendous setback and was scarred and deformed. Facing his planet's imminent destruction Zordon and a few his people fled to seek refuge. During the evacuation, Zordon's vessel was damaged. As the rest of the Eltar traveled together, Zordon drifted off into the depths of space.

The Power Rangers: Five students at Angel Grove University are attending a research exhibition outside of present-day Los Angeles. They witness the crash of Zordon's spaceship. Jason, Zack, Kimberly, Billy, and Trini investigate the crash site. They are given the power coins by Zordon to protect Earth from any potential threat. The new Rangers begin to train to become a force for good. Unbeknownst to Zordon, Lord Zedd's galactic empire has set its sights on Earth. Zedd, dispatches his chief lieutenant Goldar to force humans to join the ranks of the Patrollers. Witnessing the devastating attack on Los Angeles, the Rangers defy Zordon's plea and head into action, despite their training being unfinished. The Rangers fight through a throng of Patrollers. Ultimately the encounter Goldar and his corps. Goldar escapes into a giant alien mech. The Megazord is called into action and switches into "warrior mode". In the finale, Goldar is defeated in a battle at Dodgers Stadium. Tag: Lord Zedd is presented with a prisoner. After being told by his guards that the man displayed exceptional strength, Lord Zedd asks his guards to leave him. Zedd hands him the green power coin and says, "To the beginning of the end for the Power Rangers."

Power Rangers 2: Following the events of The Power Rangers, the Rangers have become beacons of hope throughout the world. The remaining Patrollers are being captured by the world's military might and the Rangers. The Rangers depart to Tokyo, where one of the last strongholds of Patrollers is being under assault. The Patrollers are lead by the new Green Ranger. The combined forces of the Patrollers and the Green Ranger are too much for the Rangers. They retreat back to the Command Center. The Green Ranger follows them back to their base. The Green Ranger gains entrance. Using stealth attacks, Tommy is able to individually take down Kimberly, Billy, Trini, and Zack. While planting bombs, Tommy is confronted by Jason. The two engage in intense combat all over the Command Center. Zordon warns Alpha 5 of the danger inside the base. Zordon tells his faithful companion that he must depart to find his people and forge new power coins in order to defeat Lord Zedd once and for all. Alpha 5 rescues the four unconscious Rangers. Jason finally gets the upperhand of an over-aggressive Tommy. Jason drags Tommy out of the Command Center right before its destruction. The six Rangers gaze at the sky and see Lord Zedd's complete invasion force, led by his flagship Serpentera. Tommy comes to realize his actions, and vows redemption.

Power Rangers 3: Six months after the events of Power Rangers 2, Earth is conquered by Lord Zedd's Imperial Patrol. Serpentera has wrought unimaginable horrors to civilization. The Rangers, nearly stripped of their powers, are scattered amongst the ruins. They manage to reunite in the mountains. Tommy and Jason quarrel over leadership. Billy attempts to use debris to create a communicator to contact their lost leader. Alpha 5 sacrifices himself to boost Billy's signal. They make contact with Zordon, who gives them his coordinates. Using the remaining energy of the power coins, the Rangers teleport to a distant moon. The Rangers traverse the difficult terrain on a quest to find new power coins (an homage to Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie). They find a great pyramid. There Zordon greets them and assures them the new Zeo coins are being prepared. Tommy hatches an idea to get inside Serpentera and defeat Lord Zedd. Using the Wookie prisoner gag, Tommy will pretend to have captured the original five Rangers. Later that night, Zordon hands the Rangers their new Zeo coins and bids them a farewell. Upon returning to Earth, the Rangers act on the previously decided plan. The Rangers are brought on board. Lord Zedd personally questions the whereabouts of his missing Green Ranger. Jason, Zack, Kimberly, Billy, and Trini use their new coins to morph into their new suits. Jason breaks in and tosses Tommy his new white Zeo coin. Tommy attacks Lord Zedd in one-on-one combat. The rest of the Rangers free the prisoners onboard the starship. The Rangers, except Tommy, board the new Megazord. The Megazord switches into "warrior mode" and fights Serpentera. Tommy defeats Lord Zedd and flees the doomed dreadnought. The Megazord slices Serpentera in half. As the survivors celebrate the victory, the Rangers look for their fallen comrade. Tommy appears in the wreckage, alive and redeemed. The Power Rangers create a new permanent Command Center to forever protect humanity.

Design Concepts

Command Center: The Command Center is going to be the inside of Zordon's crashed spaceship. The new Command Center in the final scene of Power Rangers 3 will be designed after the House of the Book building used in the television series.

Suits: The suits will remain the original colors of the Mighty Morphin lineup. The will not display the dinosaur designs (it does not make sense with Zordon being an alien). The suits will be based off alien technology creating an other worldly feel. I imagine it to be a cross of the original suits with the texture of the suits used in Tron: Legacy. The morphing sequence will create mass from the morphers and wrap around the user's body in a fashion similar to Iron Man 2's suitcase armor. POWERS: The suit grants its user increased strength, speed, stamina, and combat skills. The suits can absorb damaged that normally would put the user in peril. The suits have unique interfaces that coordinate strikes and present all necessary knowledge to the user. The suits are capable of firing quick energy blasts on occasion.

Zords: Perhaps the biggest creative license taken is with the Zords. Individual Zords did not make sense in any fashion other than to sell toys. The individual Zords have been removed. The Megazord, however, is one giant aircraft. Once again, its origin is extraterrestrial but it looks akin to a Pelican from the Halo universe. The Megazord's "warrior mode" will be based off the original Megazord. The second Megazord will look like the ThunderMegazord.

NOTE: I am not an artist by any means. It would be really cool if any CBMers like our concept, then they could create fan art based on it. Also, constructive criticism is welcomed.

You should design an concept art. BTW good cast but an Power Rangers movie can't be treated seriously.

It doesn't need to be treated seriously. Everybody would go see it. Also, Jason David Frank needs a cameo SOMEWHERE.

I sort of skimmed through your plot and stuff so I hope you didn't use the terms "dark" or "gritty", it should be taken seriously but not so serious that they forget it should be fun too, it was the whole [frick]ing reason I watched power rangers when I was younger, it shouldn't sacrifice the younger kids just to please older fanboys and the same applies the other way round. But the cast is pretty good and I like the idea of the costumes having a extraterrestrial feeling, I don't if I like or dislike your take on the zords. But you can clearly tell you put some effort in to this so well done man

So you have created a White Zeo Ranger?

@Rhys I did alot of flip flopping and looking back i pick too many of the usual suspects for these roles.
@SolidSnake Zeo is more of an Easter Egg and sounded more alien so I opted for that name instead.

to be honest i don't know how well your plot outlines would play out mostly because i feel that they could be resolved in the space of an hour - the ideas are solid tho

Listen man, this isn't bad. I like the idea, and some of your picks are good. For a fact I know you may have seen mine, three out of the 5 rangers are the same, and I used some of the same ideas. This is good, it can use a little work, but I still appreciate the effort you put into it, and love that power rangers is on peoples mind. For you and other who haven't seen mine, definitely check it out, it's gotten great reviews so far!

@CaptainDC I did like your fan cast alot. Yours was one of the primary reasons I chose Hemsworth and Fonesca over my second picks. One day a movie is going to happen.

Well the picks for Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers movie fan casts today have been common anyway, though I'm still quite surprised that you pick that Scott Pilgrim girl for Trini! And oh, Idris Elba is indeed everywhere...but since this considerably isn't a CBM, I still can accept this. Nice work, quite nice idea as well, though you would like to put some rivalry between Tommy and Jason pre-Rangers too probably, and develop that up to the end of the movie as well as the relations between the team (hell, even Tommy and Kim's romance). That can also extend the movie since what SolidSnake007, this may as well be quite short! I love your idea on the suit to have the texture of the suits of Tron: Legacy and some of those wrapping effects taken from Iron Man 2 (though I still am trying to picture it for tight suits) I love the movie's suits texture and in turn will also fit Power Rangers' perfectly. I also like the whole concept ideas you had - might try to picture those one day...well, apart from the Zords probably. Zords are always combining robots for me, that what makes them so cool. Probably what we need is to enhance the looks of them. And as for the Zeo stuffs, I'd rather have them stay Mighty Morphin' here, especially since you have the white ranger. I know your intention for the name being a nod, but it may just sound wrong for some people! Nice choice on Brad Bird as well, overall a great job. :)

God, I really want to revisit this series if people are this passionate enough to make fancasts, because now I'm in the need to make one. I also have a Sailor Moon fancast planned, and the actors and actresses I chose will floor a few of you guys (a few former CBM stars, a couple of 90210 actors who would be well-cast, a couple of strong character actors, etc.).

- Cast is good, by the way. However, get rid of Sebastian Stan and Taylor Kitsch, because they're reaching their 30's.
- Patrick Stewart looks like Zordon to me. At least in that shot. C'mon, it'll be X-Men revisited.
- Leonard Nimoy would be boss as Lord Zedd, because he does sound like Mark Ginther a little bit. But Willem Dafoe is an inspired choice, and Andy Serkis is a mo-cap genius.
- I think Frank Welker would sound great as Goldar, because his work as Megatron in Transformers media sounds like Kerry Casey's take. Having him sound like Sylar takes away his presence.

When you get around to it, check out my fancast for Doctor Strange.

Oh yeah, here's the ideal bands I'd have on a Power Rangers soundtrack.

3 Doors Down
Blink 182
Bush
Chris Cornell
Foo Fighters
Smashing Pumpkins

@RoadDog Goldar was the hardest person of all to cast so I just went with a menacing actor. Also, I don't want the soundtrack to Transformers. I would go with more upbeat music similar to Scott Pilgrim.

Hold up, I offered up a soundtrack featuring the most talented artists from the 90's as an ode for a landmark series from the 90's. Plus, the Transformers soundtracks, besides the second one, weren't all that bad. I like a soundtrack that just blindsides you with how great it is.

Love the cast but i reckon Andrew Garfield would make a good Billy and for some reason i think Brandon T Jackson would make an alright Zack because he has the goofy comedy (Big Stan, Tropic Thunder) and has been in a couple of action movies (The Lightning Thief, Fast & Furious) and he looks a bit like him but that's my opinion and also my first comment on an article on CBM so yeah. And Patrick Stewart for zordon and michael clarke duncan for goldar
