Hello, my friends. I, PunisherMax12, would like to present to you, the first chapter of my new book, titled EMPEROR. In this chapter, we are introduced to our main character, Saxon.

EMPEROR

Chapter 1

I awoke in freezing blackness. I stood erect, but movement was impossible. My mind was an apocalypse, a chaotic tsunami of random facts that I was not aware of how I knew them. I just did, like I knew how to breathe, how to look, how to be alive. The silence was so solid I could’ve mistaken myself for a deaf man. What was to be deaf? What were these facts that bounced through my head like an excited child? My head committed genocide, and my head was soon consumed by ache.

The ache was made all the more by my inability to move. Maybe I was not meant to move. Maybe this was how all people were meant to be, immobile. God damn it, what were people? What was anything I didn’t know, and the ache grew stronger in my head. So many questions, flying in my head like the bullets of a war zone. I wanted to move. I had to move; this can’t be how people are, frozen, in blackness.

But soon the blackness was pierced by light. It came from the bottom, a blinding light that hurt my eyes, intensifying as it scrolled up and up. I heard a mechanical sound, gears, bolts screeching together, but when the light consumed my vision from the darkness, the sound stopped. It was clear; some kind of mechanical hatch had just opened. I didn’t know what a hatch was, but I didn’t care anymore. The ache was too intense.

A figure stood before me. The ice encased my eyes, so she was a blur. It was easy to tell she was a she. She was slim, and somehow, without any explanation, I could tell she was beautiful. Her voice was heavenly, from the blur of what I could hear of it, but it was also distressed. Danger was near her, I could tell of it. Through the ice, I saw her eyes. They were enigmatic, a purple color. But they were beautiful. How I longed to see them in a happier manner, in a time of good. In a time of happiness. How beautiful they must have been. Hell, I wish I could have just seen them in detail, instead of behind this prison of envy, a prison of knowing what lies beyond but being unable to grasp it. She said something to me. The ice was thinner around my ears. “Don’t let them find Kate. Don’t let Emperor get her. Please.” What? Who, where was she going? I looked down, as much as I could, and I saw in her hand a weapon. I didn’t know what a weapon was either, but from the way she was grasping it, it was important, and instinct told me that it was a weapon. She turned from me, and bent down to press her lips against…something. I heard a high pitched squeal, faint, and it clearly came from whatever she was doing this too. From the way she did it, this was some kind of affection. Oh, God, I was so confused. She stood erect once more and spoke again. “I love you so much.” Then she turned to me, and now I didn’t see distress in her eyes anymore. No. It was sadness, an intense sadness. “Protect her.” Protect what? What was going on? I wiggled in my confusion, in my anger, but I couldn’t move much, there wasn’t much effect.

She walked, left, the weapon grasped in her hands tightly. It was indeed important, that much I knew. I heard a slide of metal against metal, but smooth. It was intentional. I heard the slide again, and then the deafening silence consumed me once again. My thoughts immediately scrolled back to when she was here. I wondered what it might have been like to talk to her, laugh with her, eat with her, play with her, kiss her, and so many other things, what it would’ve been like to live life alongside her, which made it all the more painful that she was gone. The curse of envy, as well as the curse of fantasy, oh what cruel bitches they were. I wanted her to come back. For the next while, and it was a long while I thought of her, while the rest of my body remained, seemingly content. I found that my focusing on her took away my ache, but every time I acknowledged that, the thoughts came back, and it wouldn’t be a while till I forgot about them and once again I only focused on her. But she wasn’t coming back, and the longer I waited I realized that and hated it, and the longer still I waited I came to begrudgingly accept it. She was gone. I didn’t know why, but she was gone nonetheless. And that made the pain sharper, for also a cruel bitch is ignorance.

As I came to realize that my fantasies were not reality, I realized what was. And what reality was was that the ice was thin. I gave a shove. No result. I gave another shove. A crack appeared, like frozen lightning. I shoved a third time, and the crack widened. One more, just one more and I’ll be through, I knew it. I gave one last, strong as possible shove, and the ice yielded to me, shattering all over the walls. And I hit the floor, and the floor would not be like the ice, it didn’t yield to me. It held its ground, and I suffered as I hit it, the numbness intensifying the pain. I found myself making some noise or another, a reaction to my pain, and God, it was loud. I writhed in my pain for a moment then I stood, slowly, trying to maintain balance. The room as al metal, and it was a colossal room. Besides mine, there had to be hundreds of all these same pods, but all of them were empty, opened, and they were all wet. This was probably a result of the ice I had been in. Were there other people in these pods at one point? I looked at the one I had been in. On the bottom of it were some black markings. They were arranged horizontally, made of three lines. I didn’t know how, but I could read them easily.

Standing was hard, I found, and it took me several tries and several falls before I could get it right. It was long before I realized that I was hearing the high pitched squeal again. It was continuous this time, short pauses of breath, then continuing, I turned to the squealing and I saw a tiny pink figure dressed in one piece of yellow clothing that covered all but the head and hands lying in the center of a table. Next to it was some kind of flap with thin slits of some kind of material in between the two flaps. The figure was bald, and it flailed around as if it didn’t have any control of its actions. Its squeal was harsh, its eyes were pressed thin, but I could tell that this was voluntary. Its eyes had to be wider. Must have been a result of the squeal, like the noise I made as a result of my hitting the floor. It flailed and it squealed and it was long before I recognized it. But I did eventually recognize it. This was the figure that she pressed her lips against in some sort of affection. This small thing must be Kate. What was going on? Oh I was so confused. Who was that woman? Why was I in that chamber, frozen? Why was this baby here? And who was I and why was I here?

That's it for Chapter 1 of EMPEROR. Look out for Chapter 2, some time soon. But in the meanwhile, what did you think? Leave a comment below with any questions you may have, as well as comments, compliments or criticism.
