I’m a massive fan of Rockstar Games video games and after playing Red Dead Redemption it just has to be said; it has the potential to be one of the best video game/Western film ever. The game is almost like a movie, as it is so cinematic and takes a lot of traits from the Western genre, but it just has a brilliant script that perfectly balances dark humour and drama, and that’s why I think it would be perfect as a movie!
Now, with my casting choices I’ve admittedly cast a few favourites here and there, and also a few actors that may not typically be associated with their respective roles, but this is because personally I believe they will own them and definitely give the characters the respect and credibility they deserve in order to be taken seriously and in turn help the movie be taken seriously.
Well, enough with the intro, below is my cast, and I hope you guys enjoy!
John Marston – Christian Bale
He’s one of my favourite actors and is just overall a very talented and versatile performer. He’s an epic Batman, and if
the Machinist and
the Fighter have proven anything, it’s clear Chris is 100% dedicated to bring his characters to life, pouring his heart and soul into the role. End of the day I mainly cast him after seeing
3:10 to Yuma, there he played a slightly similar character to Marston, plus visually he looks a bit like the main character so quite frankly I’d be very pleased if he got the role.
Abigail Marston – Selma Blair
I admittedly haven’t seen her in much, but I liked her a lot in the
Hellboy film series, in particular number one, where her character was much more cynical and hardened; perfect qualities needed for the role of Abigail.
Jack Marston – Logan Lerman
A lot of people seem to hate on him and admittedly I can see why, most of his movies are garbage, but I really liked him in
3:10 to Yuma, he worked really well with Bale there whilst playing a slightly similar character. End of the day though, he also looks a bit like Jack, so I wouldn’t mind seeing him give it a go. As for when the character ages, some ‘Benjamin Button’ make up, the obvious growth of facial hair and weight gain could help him alter his appearance to make him appear older.
Uncle – Robert Duvall
He’s a really great actor and has proven his talent time and time again. End of the day I cast him as I think he has the right presence needed for the role, and he also looks a bit like Uncle so that obviously helps.
Bonnie MacFarlane – Katie Cassidy
She’s a pretty decent actress, really liked her in
Supernatural. Admittedly she didn’t exactly play a similar character there, but visually she looks a lot like Bonnie, is the right age and just has this sweet, homely vibe to her that I think would let her do well in it.
Drew MacFarlane – Sam Neill
He’s a very talented actor, really liked him in
Daybreakers and I mainly cast him as visually not only does he looks the part but he has this presence and stature to him needed for such a role. All he needs to do is grow a moustache and he’s set!
Marshal Leigh Johnson – Peter Fonda
Another
3:10 to Yuma actor, but [frick] it, he’s a very talented actor and I cast him not only because he looks a lot like the character, but also as he is very talented and definitely has the right presence needed for the role.
Nigel West Dickens – Brian Doyle Murray
I admittedly haven’t seen him in much but, he plays a very similar conniving and sleazy character in
the Middle well, plus visually he looks a lot like Dickens, so in a small role like this I think he could do well.
Seth Briars – Jackie Earle Haley
He’s a solid actor and is great at playing nutty weirdoes, though this is helped as Haley does have a weird and creepy vibe to him… That being said, visually he does look a bit like the character too, so hell, if given the chance I’d like to see him give it a spin!
Irish – Geoffrey Rush
He’s a solid actor, enjoyed his work in the
Pirates film series, and though I haven’t seen it, its been said he did epically in
the King’s Speech. End of the day I mainly cast him as he played a very similar character well in
the Warrior’s Way, admittedly the movie was bollocks, but like I said Rush did his role justice.
Landon Ricketts – Sam Elliot
He’s a pretty good actor, and visually looks a lot like the character. End of the day, I mainly cast him as he does have this sort of ‘legendary badass’ quality to him that I think would let him undoubtedly own the role.
Luisa Fortuna – Giselle Itie
I haven’t seen her in much, but she played a very similar character in
the Expendables well, and in a small role like this I think she could do well in progressing the story.
Abraham Reyes – Gail Garcia Bernal
He’s a pretty good actor, liked him in
Babel, anyway, he can easily play charming and charismatic womanizer in his sleep so I’d be willing to give the role a shot. Just let him grow a goatee and he’s set.
Vincent de Santa – Javier Bardem
Visually he looks the part, well he did, but he’s also a very talented actor and after seeing him in
No Country for Old Men I think he is undoubtedly perfect for the role, and could definitely provide us with a classic Western villain.
Agustin Allende – Antonio Banderas
The picture I chose of him shows him to be much younger than he is now, but visually there he is more or less a perfect match for the role. Despite that though, he’s a really cool actor and now that he’s gotten older, he can definitely deliver on the presence needed for the role.
Harold MacDougal – Sam Rockwell
He’s a pretty solid actor really liked him in
the Green Mile,
Iron Man 2 and
Moon. End of the day he’s a very versatile actor and visually looks the part so I’d be willing to see him give it a shot!
Nastas – Rudy Youngblood
I haven’t seen him in much, but I thought he was pretty good in
Apocalypto and think in such a small supporting role like this he’d do well. All he needs to do is outgrow his hair or get a wig and he’s set.
Bill Williamson – Josh Brolin
He’s a solid actor, really liked him in
No Country for Old Men, but it was after his small performance in
True Grit that I thought he would be able to do the role justice as he played a slightly similar character there.
Javier Escuella – Oscar Jaenada
He’s a pretty decent actor, liked him in
the Losers, so I’d be willing to give him a shot here. He just has this roguish, bad ass quality to him that I think would serve him well in the role.
Dutch van der Linde – Daniel Day Lewis
He’s a really good actor, it was due to his performances in the films
Gangs of New York and
There Will Be Blood that I thought he’d be perfect as John’s psychotic ‘mentor.’ Despite his acting skills though, visually he looks the part as well so that helps too.
Agent Archer Fordham – Eli Roth
Haven’t seen him in much, but visually he fits the bill, and it was after I saw him in
Inglorious Basterds that I just thought he would do well in a small role like this.
Agent Edgar Ross – Stephen Root
He’s a pretty good and versatile actor, admittedly I haven’t seen him in much, nor have I seen him play any similar characters before but I really liked him in
Dodgeball and
True Blood; the latter in which it became clear to me that he was a very talented individual. End of the day, he also looks a bit like Ross, so that helps too, and if given the job I’d like to see him give it a spin!
Well, that’s who I want for
