Greetings friends and True Believers, This article will sure to be a hot topic to some and I'm open to hear all your comments and opinions. As you can see the topic is on the Friendly Neighbor Spider-man. Thanks to the man in charge of Marvel, Joe Quesada, the web head has now become more of a punchline than a spectacular super hero. However his fall from grace didn't begin there. It began with the change with green goblin(i will do an article on that as well), then the terrible ending with the clone saga, and the most recent trash fest of "ONE MORE DAY"*lighting bolt and scary music*....However the problem isn't just bad story arcs, but could it be that spider-man has ran his course. A quick note, i will not be discussing the Ultimate Spider-man, I just started to read it, starting after the events of ULTIMATUM, and its a good read. And yes, i read all the info their is on it, so don't go there saying I'm not a real fan. Anyway, this about the earth 616 Spider-man and can he be redeemed. Now first I will discuss a few problems, then some solutions to solve said problem. Problem 1: spider-man growing up. Over the years before any of us read comics, Spider-man has started out as awkward teen who becomes a wrestler, then a superhero after a radioactive spider bite. As the main series progressed, spider-man grew up with the readers and they were able to comprehend these changes. We get a married spider-man and is burdened with living his life as Spider-man, Peter Parker the photographer, and Peter Parker the husband. Then during the events of civil war he outs himself as spider-man, joins the pro registration, then joins the anti registration, and eventually selling his soul to soothe his own guilt, and now were at the point where he is a public enemy despite being part of the new avengers. Solution: too late to fix it tho, make him not age with the readers but to keep him as the teen with trouble and just reinvent it every 10 years. Problem 2: his place in events. Spider-man has been part of each event comic so far that matters, except Secret Invasion, he wasn't one of the big players. Now with Dark Reign near its end and Siege is coming in a month, where will he be in all this, my guess not that much but he will do something with the NA(new avengers). Solution: make him a more useful in event comics. Problem 3: No new villains. Spider-man has a rouges gallery of his own with many memorable people: sandman, the lizard, kraven, mysterio, chameleon, venom, carnage, and so on. Now he's got no one since most are either gone, dead, or joined the thunderbolts. He's now fighting people either from other affiliations. Solution: bring them back and set spider-man in NY only. Problem 4: whored out. Spider-man is Marvel's whore. He's the biggest name they got and they sold him out to anything to make money quickly. 2 live action shows one here and the other in japan, 2 animated shows, one now and one in the 90's, 4 movies, a ton of video games, anything they can put him on he will be used to make marvel lots and lots of $$$$. Solution: kill the character. Problem 5: Spider-man hasn't died. Big names in the comics have died and when they returned they make glorious comebacks. Superman, Hal Jordan, Captain America, and a few others. He's lived through everything that's been thrown at him and still he sells comics. Solution: kill him and make the fans want him back and do things with spidey characters to evolve them. And there you have it, some problems and hopefully some solutions to fixing Spider-man. Also if anyone here can give me any recommendations on the canceled series of spider-manm that would be cool...til next time fans, my next article will be the mentioned of the green goblin
