Chapter 4: Promises.
*Beep, beep, beep* My eyes slowly open, and I awake, in a hospital bed... Everything around me is dark, but I turn on the nightlight beside me. I also grab my glasses that are there. But when I put them on, my vision seems to be blurry, so I take it off, and I sleep once more.
The next time I wake up, daylight was already beginning to crack, my head was hurting so much. And all of a sudden, I remember what had previously occurred, I was in Oscorp, for a field trip, yet searching for answers about my father. When I ran into Dr. Curt Connors, and then, an explosion happened, destroying half of Oscorp. I quickly helped Liz and Gwen, but Davis was nowhere to be found. I sit up comfortably, and looked at the clock, 9:05am. All of a sudden, I heard footsteps coming in, then I quickly lied down, and pretended to sleep. I heard the doctor and my Uncle Ben talking, "So what's wrong with Peter, doctor?" he replied, saying "There's been a slight shift in his DNA structure, whatever happened in the field trip accident, it involved his blood cells." My mind was confused for a second, and then, it hit me! When I was trying to rescue both Gwen and Liz, I felt a slight sting on my right hand. I quickly looked at it, and there it was. A bite. But, what I found really confusing, was that, "How had my DNA structure changed?" I thought to myself. Then, I also remembered the cross-species lab, some of the animals might have escaped. I overheard the doctor speaking again, "When you're dealing with an issue like this, Mr. Parker. It's quite vital, you try to reel him in slow, because, if you try to put all the stuff that happened, and you cram it inside his brain again. We feel, that it might be too much for him to handle." My uncle replied saying, "Gotcha Doc, we'll reel him in slow, let him absorb it. And if I may ask, how long until he can go back to school? After all, the holidays are nearly here." The doctor replied, "1 week will be enough for Peter."
"Thanks Doctor, we appreciate the help in bringing Peter back."
As soon as the door closes, I sit right back up, and wonder to myself, if Gwen, Liz, or even Davis was all right.... But just then, the door popped open, my Aunt and Uncle were there, along with a nurse, she approached me, and said, "We're just taking a sample of your blood, okay kid?" "Gotcha." I replied. She tapped my skin, and my veins popped out, my eyes widened in disbelief. "Strong arm, you got there." She jokingly said. I grinned, and then she took the blood sample. After, my Aunt and Uncle came to me, Uncle Ben said, "How you feeling, son?" "Great, I feel a lot better now, that explosion was just... Horrible." I replied. My Aunt then said, "Peter, we know this is a tough time, so we just want you to rest easy, this week? Okay? No school, until next week." Aunt May then smiled warmly at me. I smiled back, but then my heart sank, "What happened to Davis?" My Aunt and Uncle looked at each other, and I knew this wasn't going to end well. Uncle Ben spoke and said, "Well.... You see son, after trying to save everybody he could, there was a fire, it sparked all around him. And he was trapped, he managed to get out of there, but another explosion had occurred, knocking him to the side of the wall. His head hit the wall, pretty badly, and... He's in a coma. We don't know how long, but the doctors are saying indefinitely." My heart sank even more, knowing, my first friend... One, who's been with me since Elementary, is in a coma. He introduced me to Gwen, and all three of us have been best friends ever since. His father died, when he was only 7. His mother's been all alone ever since, and to lose her son to a coma. We celebrated all my birthdays together, and was there to hold me up during school, when Flash was taunting me about me losing my parents. "What about Gwen?" I asked, hoping for a good answer. "She's fine, but she's extremely worried about you, along with another nice girl, Liz." Aunt May replied.
When we were checking out of the hospital, I looked at Davis. He was just laying there, motionless, yet the monitor was beeping. "I promise you, Davis. Whatever it takes, I'll fight. I promise you. But, as of now, goodbye." The weeks pass by so fast, I don't know how long it's been, but I always came to visit Davis. But today, was the day, I mark my promise. I took a blood sample, last week, of my new altered DNA structure, and I found out, the sting I felt, was from a genetically-engineered super spider. So, I started making a free time project, I was building a mechanical web shooter, if you pressed on the pad that was there, a strong length, of biocable developed by Oscorp was shot out. It was strong enough to pull a plane. And I made the web shooter, out of scrap watches. It took me about 3 weeks. Then the snow started falling down, and the Winter Ball for my school was near. I decided, I would ask out Liz to the ball. We've gotten closer, and I feel, as it's time to ask her. But first, I wanted to test out these bad boys I made. I ran to an abandoned warehouse, doing somersaults in mid-air, and was practicing acrobatic movements, climbing from the ladders, pulling myself up, and then..... I hung upside down, releasing myself, and free-falling, swinging around the warehouse. "WOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!" I smiled, as this was the most creative thing I've done before, and I was proud of myself. My mission wasn't over, I still needed more info on what untold story my early life had been before. A wise man, said, "We've all had, that one thing, that's been stripped from us, before. And how we choose, to fill that void. Is how we define ourselves."
