The Imperial Menace
Chapter One
A small corrillen cruiser speeds through space at breakneck speed over the planet Corellia.
It is pursued by a much larger and very ominous looking ship, the heavily armed aggressor opens fire on its prey, striking a direct hit to the rear with pinpoint accuracy.
At the helm of the corillen cruiser is a handsome man in his late twenties, he is accompanied by attractive lady of similar age his co-pilot Zuri.
"I have a bad feeling about this!" exclaims the man as they shudder in their seats due to the impact of another direct hit.
"Why do you say that? Everytime you say that things always get worse!" Zuri yelled "You're the Captain do something!" she continued.
Despite the situation the pilot keeps his calm, after a few evasive manouvers he began a steep dive directly into the busy transport lanes of Corellia. A frantic voice is heard over the comlink from the lane traffic controller below insisting that they slow down, the voice is quickly muffled by the sound of alarms and automated warnings from his own vessel.
His pursuer attempts to follow but the heavier larger ship cannot match his daring manouver and is forced to break off his attack. The correllian vessel plummets into orbit, the ships hull burns red as the descent is far too steep.
From the cockpit the Zuri can see the traffic lanes appraoching so fast that everything becomes a blur. Closing her eyes she screams at the top of her voice waiting for the crash that seems so impossible to avoid.
Her screaming continues, she closes her eyes even tighter but the impact never comes. She was thrown around in her seat like never before but finally the ship leveled out. The amazing skills of the capatin had saved their lives, he had expertly swerved, glided and twisted the ship through the impossible maze of cargo carriers in the shipping lanes.
Zuri opened her eyes and looked at him, she was breathless and wide eyed she was also quite in awe of him not just beacause of his piloting skills it was also how cool and clam he had remained throughout the ordeal.
"Its not over yet!" he said "This bucket is dead, we have to land and get under cover as soon as possible, they'll be looking for us"
"Looking for us? They won't be looking for us they'll think we crashed in the lanes" said Zuri defiantly "Do you know what the odds are of getting through those lanes at the speed we were going?" she asked.
"Never tell me the odds!" He replied with a grin across his face.
Above Corellia the attacking ship floats slowly through space. The pilot of the ship, a bounty hunter named Drago contacts his employer via hologram.
"I failed to capture him, please accept my apologies normally I am very good at this" Drago mumbled and stuttered in a comical attemp at an apology.
"Drago don't you ever listen, I want him alive! Let me explain, if you blast him out of the sky he won't be alive he'll be dead! How can you capture him and bring him to me alive if he's dead?" came the somewhat sarcastic holographic response. "Find Captain Solo and bring him to me Drago! Alive! And find him fast their are other hunters out their looking for him as we speak"
The holographic image flickered and disappeared, Drago swivelled round in his seat and took control of his ship with a slightly bemused look upon his alien face. Drago was not the most intelligent of bounty hunters but what he lacked in sense he made up for in size. His incredible height and shear bulk had been known to intimidate some of his targets into surrendering without struggle or a fight. His ship zoomed down and filtered into the traffic lanes, he scanned for evidence of the ship that had evaded him but found no trace of where they had gone.
At helm of the cruiser Captain Ben Solo fights with the controls of his damaged ship as he tries to brings it in to land in a vacant docking bay.
"The dock master has seen us Ben" Zuri said "You got any credits? I have no credits, how we gonna pay him? We don't have a permit!" She ranted in a panic.
"Can I just concentrate on landing this thing first!" He exclaimed with frustration. "We get passed the dock master and then disappear"
"Disappear, why disappear they think were dead" Zuri responded abruptly.
"If we crashed whoever was following us would have expected an explosion, they didn't see an explosion so they'll assume we are still alive" Ben shouted as the ship landed with a thump. He unbuckled his seat belt and turned to look at Zuri "The only explosion I heard was in my ears from your screaming" he noted sarcastically.
Zuri let out an equally sarcastic laugh to counter his whitty comment. They grabbed what objects they could gather and quickly departed the ship, as they reached the bottom of the access ramp they came face to face with an angry dock master.
"What do you think you are doing?" he asked in a high pitched annoying tone. Ben opened his mouth to reply but the disgruntled dock master did not give time for a response "Article 1138 of the docking code expressly forbids the docking of unlicensed, unclassified, unfit or unspace worthy ships in this sector"
"But we have heavy damage we had to land....." Zuri interjected but the dock master simply spoke over her.
"I need to see your ships log, your ships registration and you are liable for a fixed penalty of 400 credits for illegal parking" the dock master stated in a very matter of fact manner "payable immediatley" he added.
Zuri tried to protest but yet again she was interupted, this time by Ben.
Ben looked straight into the dock masters eyes and said "You don't need to see the log, you don't need to see the ships registration and you will pay the fine yourself on our behalf". The dock master did not even notice the subtle wave of Bens hand in front of him as he spoke. Confused and dazed the dockmaster agreed entirley with Ben that no documentaion needed to be shown and that he would pay the fine personally.
Ben began to dash towards the exit of the docking bay giving Zuri a wry grin of satisfaction at the apparent sucess of his trick. After a few seconds he realised Zuri was not following him, he stopped running and turned round to ask why but before he could the dockmaster suddenly came to his senses.
"Halt!" he yelled in his annoying high pitched voice pointing at Ben, he reached for his comlink to alert security of the situation. He raised the comlink towards his mouth but before he could speak Zuri suddenly struck him over the head with the her blaster knocking him to the floor unconcious.
Ben looked a little startled and dissapointed, they made their escape into the busy space port hoping no one else had seen what had happenned in the docking bay.
"Everytime you try your jedi mind trick stuff it only works for a few seconds, when are you going to learn" Zuri asked Ben.
This time Ben had no witty response or retort after a short pause he muttered "I tried to learn......once" his tone was down hearted and out of character which caused Zuri immediate concern. They continued their way through the bustling space port not quite knowing what their next plan of action will be.
Bail Solo looked out from the Council Chamber within Jedi Temple on Coruscant at the spralling cityscape before him. He knew the history of his family and the history of the Jedi, he also knew that his family were interwoven with the force.
Although he was now twenty five years old he had been aware since he was a young age that due his parentage he was destined for glory. Being the second son of galactic heroes like Princess Leia Organa and Han Solo this is what the galaxy expected of him. His lineage however also had a downside, being the grandson of one of the most tyranical and evil men in the universe had always cast a shadow over himself and his elder brother Ben.
As he gazed upon the skyscrapers he wondered if his grandfather had ever stood in exactly the same spot and looked upon exactly the same view.
His thoughts were interupted as the doors to the chamber hissed open.
"This place is huge Master" said the youthful alien as he entered the room "You must come down to the library Master, there is something you must see!"
Bail slowly turned towards his padawan "Is more interesting than this amazing view?" He asked in a rude manner.
"Er...yes Master......well I think so Master" the padawan replied nervously. Murom Sub had only been under the tuition of Bail Solo for a year. Bail had trained as a Jedi all his life alongside his brother Ben.
There was an awkward silence between them as Bail and his padawan entered the elevator and began the descent to the lower levels of the Jedi Temple. Murom had been accepted into the New Jedi Acadamy at ten years old and had known both the Solo brothers for many years he had noticed a change in Bail since his elder brother Ben had run away five years ago.
They finally reached the library and Murom directed Bail towards a line of sculpted figurehead busts of former Jedi Knights and Jedi Masters.
"This one is new, its of Obi Wan Kenobi" Murom stated as he pointed towards the bust furthest to the left.
Bail approched the bust slowly and gazed intently towards it.
"They say he was also called Ben right?" Murom asked excitedly "So your brother is named after a famous Jedi!"
"My brother is indeed named after a Jedi......but he also brought shame upon us! If anyone should have been named after a famous Jedi.....it should have been me" Bail responded meekly.
Suddenly he cheered up a little, he looked over at Murom and smiled "Lets get out of this place, and get back to the Jedi Acadamy" he suggested.
"Yes Master" Murom replied happy that his Masters mood had lightened.
"I better say goodbye to my parents first" Bail mummered.
As they left the Jedi Temple Bail felt relief, he had never liked the place and was gald that the New Jedi Order opertated from an acadamy on Yavin Four. The temple was more like a museum now, the whole point of the visit to Coruscant had been to educate young prospective Jedi in the history of the order.
