The Amazing Spider-Man X

The film to end the series I now wonder why I went back to in the first place.

What I wanted to do in this last film was revisit Doctor Octopus. However, I ended the previous plot with the return of Norman Osborn. Therefore, squeezing Doc Ock into this is difficult and the role of the character may be unpleasant to some; I’ll do my best, but I can’t promise perfection. All in all, I couldn’t end my series without having done Doc Ock. Here we go…

Following the events of The Amazing Spider-Man IX, Spider-Man and Norman Osborn are violently at each other’s throats. At the same time, Osborn, Wilson Fisk (still going by Kingpin in the underworld despite confusion over New York’s true crime lord), and Roderick Kingsley (still going by Goblin in the underworld despite that he hasn’t sported the Hobgoblin gear since III) are all in a war for absolute control over New York’s crime. Fisk represents the old ways of crime, which is a pyramid-like system with him at the top; Kingsley represents an independent nature of crime in which criminals have no masters; and Osborn wishes to usher in a new era of chaotic crime where an army of superpowered criminals under his command pollute the city.

Osborn has already begun to form his “army,” offering lowly thugs the performance enhancers which turned him into a superhuman. As he must combat this mess as Spider-Man, Peter must also deal with issues in his own life. For one, despite still earning cash for his photos at the Daily Bugle, Peter doesn’t have an actual full-time job. Secondly, Aunt May invites Peter to a dinner which is sure to be awkward with her new boyfriend present. Peter is shocked to find that the man May introduces him to is a famous medical scientist, Dr. Otto Octavious. Peter and Octavious get along like the best of friends. Octavious, hearing from May that Peter needs a job, offers the boy employment as his lab assistant. Peter accepts the job of course.

So, things go on with Spider-Man encountering Osborn’s thugs and other situations. Eventually, while Peter is observing his employer give a showcase of one of his experiments something goes wrong and the four metal arms that Octavious uses in his experiments becoming grafted to his body. Taken to the hospital, Octavious leaves unexpectedly (he doesn’t kill his doctors this time, Raimi) and goes to visit May. May is horrified by what has happened. Seeing the horror in his love’s eyes, Octavious, his sanity having fragmented in the accident, believes that May doesn’t love him any more and that she has somehow betrayed him. Octavious attacks the poor woman, but luckily Peter comes though the door before any serious harm can be done. Octavious flees and isn’t seen for some time.

I’ll save everyone the hardship of reading through a bunch of B.S. and skip to pivotal points. Osborn later hires Octavious to kill Peter Parker; Octavious accepts after Osborn convinces him that Peter is what is standing in the way of his relationship with May. Spider-Man and Doctor Octopus (as the Daily Bugle has dubbed him) face off in May’s home, which is destroyed in the fight. After Ock is knocked unconscious, May, having been present the whole time, sees Peter with his mask off (Ock ripped off the mask during the fight). Peter tells his aunt that they can discuss the matter later, but at the moment Osborn has to be taken care of.

When Spider-Man gets to Osborn he is already in a heated fight with Fisk and Kingsley is dead in the corner (the beginning of this fight will occur along with the beginning of the Doc Ock fight and the two will flash back and forth). So, a three-way free-for-all breaks out between them. When Octavious regains consciousness he seems to also have regained his sanity. May tells him that she thinks Peter is in danger. Knowing of what she speaks, Octavious goes to aid his friend.

By the time Ock arrives, Osborn has killed Fisk and has unleashed a great number of his superhuman thugs on Spider-Man. Octavious clears the way and helps Spider-Man defeat the thugs. Before Osborn can sneak away, Octavious grabs him by the throat and, after spouting some angry words, breaks his neck, afterwards throwing him through a window. With the heat of battle simmering down, Octavious tells Spider-Man that he won’t put up a fight in being taken to the police. Seeing no need for all of that, Spider-Man lets Octavious go, hoping that he won’t ever have to fight him again…

That’s pretty much it. Some other things to note: Mary Jane will be present in the film, I just didn’t mention her anywhere because she isn’t pertinent; Octavious won’t necessarily be a villain in the film, but more of a confused, insane nuisance with a personal connection to Peter; Norman Osborn is definitely dead this time. :P
