Some interesting thoughts. I like your recommendation of Clayface to display Batman's detective skills. As for origins— I personally say skip the training but show the Wayne tragedy.

Eh, I don't know about that. We can see him develop his skills through the progress of the film. As he gets deeper in a case, he must adopt new technology. When he makes a mistake during a confrontation, he explores new fighting techniques. But I rather not see a portion of film (an entire Act One like in Batman Begins) dedicated solely to training (especially if it's Bruce training in a temple/dojo/etcetera). The Wayne Family Tragedy is an iconic scene— one that a new franchise should re-establish. Opening scene of the reboot, just a minute or so. It'll show how bad Gotham City is, as well as emotionally connect us to billionaire Bruce Wayne.
