The Fate of Ghost Rider on the big screen.

The Fate of Ghost Rider on the big screen.

Two failed attempts at Ghost Rider on the big screen. What should be big screen future for the Spirit of Vengeance?

Getting older means getting wiser, which means for me I start to notice non quality films. Ghost Rider and Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance are less than good to say the least, as movies. As a comicbook movie, the first was decent especially the extended cut. The second was a fun movie, that's it. Both were less than stellar at the box office. What should the future hold for the flaming skulled hero? Here is what I think.

1: Get a younger actor

Nicolas Cage isn't a bad actor, just dry. Not to mention he is a little old to be playing Johnny Blaze or Danny Ketch. The most obvious way to restart is get a young actor. For me, I'd say Jake Gyllenhaal. He's a great actor (more than I can say for his crappy sister), he's young and I think he can pull of Johnny Blaze or Danny Ketch good. If anything, he'll be the reason people would go see the movie.

2: Better director

Mark Steven Johnson? NO! Neveldine/Taylor, you make fun movies but, NO! We need a director that knows how to direct dark movies, CGI filled movies. A director that can help the film carry it's weight. No matter how thin or thick the script is. My pick would be Rupert Sanders, whom made is directoral debut earlier this year with Snow White and the Huntsman.

3: Quality writers

The reboot would need good, quality writers who can make a write a damn good film. Something every good film needs. It needs to be darker than the Nolan Batman trilogy because we are dealing with supernatural characters, a anithero who has a flaming skull for a head AND he saves the world from demons. I know, difficult to pull off. Impossible? No, because Avengers showed that any superhero can make it to the big screen well. Even team ups. Sorry, no Midnight Sons movie is on my wishlist. Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver, I feel can write a damn good film. Rise of the Planet of the Apes may not have been a "dark" film but it's a damn good film and these two are set to write the sequel and Jurassic Park 4. I think they could write a good Ghost Rider film.

4: Villain

This is a tough one because there aren't many Ghost Rider villains who is a challenge for the Rider that can be a good villain on screen too. We had Blackheart (I thought he was fine in the first movie, but many don't agree. A demonic look would've been corny) and Blackout in the sequel I actually, surprisingly liked more than the comic counter part. He just came off more threatening. So, who should be the villain in the sequel? Here is my suggestions: The first movie have Deathwatch, Scarecrow, Hag and Troll. It might seem like alot, but I think it can work well for the reboot.

5: Violence, action in general

The first movie had very little and the sequel and a little bit more than the previous film, but is that saying much? The action needs to be amped up in a reboot, more violence, more action. The reboot should have more character development as well as enough Ghost Rider fights to make it satisfying.

6: The Ghost Rider's look

I don't know about you, but I thought the black skull look was pretty badass. The look of the character though I think needs to be based off of the Road to Damnnation, Ghost Rider. The feel that this is one guy you don't want to tick off.

These are my thoughts. What about you? Comment below and be respectful.

LEVITIKUZ: Well I've been having enough free time after school and before school again this week, I've been remembering things I've been having opinions and thoughts on I wanted to get out. That and I'm still working on my Mortal Kombat script. So, I guess your right. I have been busy lol

i honestly didn't think neveldine/taylor did that bad of a job with the direction. like you said they made it fun. there cinematography is amazing. i love there guerilla style of filmaking, and i think that was a god choice for the franchise, but you are right about the writing. the writing is awful. and nicholas cage needs to leave hollywood. im sorry but your time is up man. nicholas cage has never portrayed johnny blaze, and they made 2 films! ridiculous. anyways, you're totally right about everything, i just love the film style of neveldine/taylor , crank was awesome. comeletely ridiculous, but just awesome good fun.

Nicholas Cage is a fantastic, incredible, extraordinary actor. He's capable of feats of impossible, almost miraculous acting...

...You know, if you want him to play Nicholas Cage.

The only thing I've ever liked him in is Kick-Ass, and a lot of that is to do with him only having a small role in the film, backed up by great writing and direction, and the fact that for the first time ever he did something slightly different.

They should do a sequel with Danny instead of Johnny so that they can have a different actor who is young. The action should be a huge factor in the movie because no one wants to see a boring Ghost Rider movie. The villain should be Vengeance who wants to kill Danny because he thinks Danny killed his family. How cool would it be to see two Ghost Riders fight.

After seeing SOV, I honestly don't want another Ghost Rider movie anytime soon. Sony had their chance to redeem themselves, but instead they chose directors who didn't take the content they had seriously and an actor who "tried too hard" (even though he's a "die hard" fan)

If anything, Ghost Rider NEEDS to be Rated R. I won't watch another one unless it's R rated. That's like making Punisher PG-13. I hate it when they tone down material just to make more profit. Honor the material and do it right.

As for directors, I'd trust Pete Travis. He did awesome with rebooting DREDD. Why not Ghost Rider?

The only way Ghost Rider is going to be successful now is for Sony to let rights go back to Marvel. That gives the general public time to forget the last two movies.

Then it would be Marvels job to give Ghost Rider a cameo in another established Marvel franchise. That would do two things. It would allow Marvel to gauge the fan reaction and if making another move would be worth it & it gives them a way to build interest in Ghost Rider for the general public.

@CPBuff22: My thoughts exactly. Those 2 movies were beyond horrible. I'd rather watch the Catwoman movie.

You realize that if GR does go back to Marvel, it will be a VERY LONG time before we ever see him on screen again. Marvel has a bunch of movies ahead of that, and I'm sure Ghost Rider would not be one of them.

Why do you think Avi Arad gave Sony and Fox those characters when this all first started? So Marvel characters can have movies be done faster. While it'd be nice, it's not going to happen.

SOV was good in my mind. Over the top, yes. But badass!

Levitikuz is 100% right...I think he would only be handled with any level of quality in Marvel/Disney's hands.

Just because a character is dark doesn't mean Marvel/Disney can't or won't handle them.

Remember that terrifying chapter of the original Fantasia with the scary-ass Devil/Demon guy! That stuff was scary as hell! Literally-HELL.

I want a new take on ghostrider. This may sound strange but Im an outside the box kinda guy. Ghostrider should be a horror movie. More slasher flick than superhero. F selling kids toys and stuff like that. I want to see it through the bad guys eyes. An organize crime ring getting taken out by ghostrider one by one, while they commit crimes. Bloody gibs and penance stares for everyone. The mob bosses have to go to a mystic/witch doctor for help, and he tells them the story of GR. The mystic agrees to help by summoning another evil spirit for the climax. Dont even get into Ketch/blaze's background to much. Dont even show Ketch/blaze until the end when he changes back from ghostrider gets on his bike and cruises into the sunset.

It would be hard to pull off the horror part considering people would find it more cool rather than scary and the whole slasher idea isn't Ghost Rider, but then again superhero doesn't really fit him either. Ghost Rider shouldn't be R rated because for the simple fact that yes, he is a dark character but there isn't anything about him that screams R. Maybe, a hard PG-13 but not R.

Ironpool007: I liked SOV too because it was a fun movie. But, as a comicbook adaptation and a film overall, it was pretty bad.

At Marvel or not, Ghost Rider has potential on the big screen but the chance of it performing well at the box office and maybe a good overall Ghost Rider film and movie as a whole. But that would be just it, good.

@lizard
See to me no horror is really "scary." Im just talking style. I also think slashers can be cool, and look cool. Imo I think Jason is one of the coolest dudes in the horror game, but a guy in a hockey mask and jumpsuit isnt scary. Tell the story through the victims eyes instead, and keep the Rider a mystery. Real bad guys establishing how evil they truly are, by killing, raping and stealing, then the rider comes along to make them pay. I know its not for everyone, I just like the idea and really dont want an origin story.
