RECAP: Because he believes that it's what his mother would want, Alan continues to fight crime as Spider-Man. Alan has also continued working as a lab assistant at Biotech, where Dr. Anderson has Dr. Rattner and his team creating new humanoid hybrids with their recreation of Steven's serum. They plan to use their new arachno-human mutation to hunt down Spider-Man.
PART 4: Alan has gotten used to his new life of balancing his alter ego, school work, his job, and relationships with TJ and Jess. The end of the school year creeps ever so closely, and Alan's 16th birthday is right around the corner. Things are good. But as mentioned earlier, when things are going well in Alan's life, a tragedy isn't too far away. Alan even expresses this fact to Jess, as well as TJ. They assure him that he's just paranoid, and things go on as they normally do.
Meanwhile, Dr. Rattner and Co. have been hard at work with the serum, and they've got Ratt (A scorpion mutation) ready to go into action. Dr. Anderson brings in Alan's ID badge, which has his scent on it, and has them put it around Ratt's neck, so that he can easily find Alan. Then, Ratt is released into the city via the sewer system, where he follows Alan's scent.
Meanwhile, Alan is on a date with Jess, where she is celebrating his birthday. They have dinner via picnic in the park. But, Alan feels his spider sense go off, and the next thing you know, Ratt comes flying out of a sewer grate. People run in panic, and Alan tells Jess to run as far as she can as fast as she is able. She refuses because he won't go with her. But, Alan is already off. She attempts to find him, but Alan is already suited up, and she can't seem to find him anywhere.
Basically, Spidey is pounced on by Ratt, and a slugfest ensues. Slabs of concrete are flailed around on weblines, they throw each other through trees, snapping them straight in half. All the while, Spidey has no clue WHAT he's even fighting. The fight ends with Spidey having to save Jess as she's almost killed by a lamppost thrown by Ratt, and he ends up beating Ratt into unconsciousness, keeping him from escaping by sticking him onto a web he made in between two trees. Though he has saved the day, he ends up shot in the shoulder by the police, who, after seeing his unbelievable display of violence, consider him a menace now more than ever before. Spidey quickly flees the scene, just barely escaping because of his injury. But he now has no clue what to do. He's been shot, and he can't go to the hospital. They'll find out his identity. He lands on the roof of a nearby building, but hears the sound of a helicopter. He finds out that he is being chased by the police. It's no use. He's done for. But, he can still try...
I'd imagined the fight to look a lot like this...
He ends up being chased through the city. But, runs through a hospital when he crashes through the window. Spidey runs down the halls, searching for and taking various things like scalpels, all kinds of painkillers, and all kinds of bandages. After all, he'll need to hide the fact that he's been shot. Police have already moved in and started surrounding him. He fights off the officers as they attempt to take him down. He exits the same fashion he came by jumping out of a window down the hall. He swings and basically parkours through alleys and on the sides of buildings, which helps him eventually lose the cops. It's a very intense sequence, as well as a miracle.
Alan must now not only have to explain to Jess what happened, but also play surgeon on himself and remove a bullet from his shoulder. But, little does he know, more is still to come. Yikes!
