The game will feature new and innovative gameplay to change up the usual Lego formula. For one, not every level will be two player co-op. However, some levels will require players to fight each other, and the winner according to the story will be need to win the fight. In lieu of an ally in some cases, new characters will be added. For instance, when Rorschach is exploring Comedian's apartment, the second player may be able to play as the Ghost of Comedian. Another example is when Rorschach is exploring the site of the little girl's kidnapping, the second player can be a ghost of the young girl. While not every level will be two-player friendly, the game will make up for it.
Other notable changes include:
- Rorschach's Diary, as the main traveling apparatus of the game. Via a special menu, players can use Rorschach's Diary to flip around to a section of the game at their will.
- The game will progress as the story is told. Players will visit Hub Worlds between levels, like the Watchmen Headquarters (where Comedian burns the map).
- New modes include a mode where players can assume the roles of Rorschach and Nite Owl 2, and do missions. [Similar to Watchmen: The End is Nigh]
- A mode similar to 'Horde' mode, where players can choose a character and fight waves of enemies.
- A 'Noir' mode, with special flashback missions. Players can enter into a scenario. For instance, a player might play as the Comedian and take down a classic villain. Basically, a boss battle mode.
