X-Men: The Animated Series REBOOT FanCast and Outline

With rumors flying that Disney plans to reboot the classic X-Men:TAS, I decided to try my hand at casting and plotting a new iteration of the classic team's adventures.

Voice Cast

Michael Emerson as Charles Xavier

Reid Scott as Cyclops - Alison Brie as Jean Grey - Toks Olagundoye as Storm

Rory McCaan as Wolverine - Kimiko Glen as Jubilee - Anthony Carrigan as Morph

Jamie Hector as Gambit - Brigitte Kali Canales as Rogue

Mark Hamill as Sebaston Shaw - Nika Futterman as Emma Frost

 - Timothy Omunson as J. Jonah Jameson -

For the main team, I included a cast that I thought would be "gettable" for a series like this. I'll be honest, this isn't my favorite era for the team, but it's what I worked with. I decided to change things up by keeping Morph alive past the Pilot, and I think Anthony Carrigan is the perfect choice for the zanier comic relief version of Morph we've come to know from Exiles. I was torn on race-swapping Gambit and Rogue, because I wanted to stick to the classic 90's style, however this is what I would do if adapting the X-Men, so I went ahead with people I thought best fit and helped make a team that's all about diversity a little more diverse. And of course I have to get Mark Hamill in here if I can.

Season 1 Plot

1) To Me, My X-Men Part 1: A young African girl named Idie manifests incredible powers. When her parents beleive she is cursed by the devil, she runs away and falls into the hands of the Enduque Crime Family. The X-Men, commanded by field leader Banshee, come to her rescue.

2) To Me, My X-Men Part 2: The X-Men get more than they bargained for, discovering the Enduque's have been dealing with extraterrestrial criminals. Their mutants defeat the alien tech, but Banshee dies saving Idie. While the team wants to take revenge, Professor Xavier instead reports the dealings to SWORD. Enduque is revealed to be the White Knight of the mysterious, mutant-obsessed Hellfire Club.

3) Wolverine: A bitter Canadian soldier stumbles upon a young mutant girl named Hisako Ichiki, whose family were murdered. He defends her from the killers and delivers her to the X-Mansion. He wants to leave, but Hisako convinces him to stick around.

4) Three's Company: Wolverine relucantly sticks around, but his addition to the team initially causes conflict, particuarly between Jean and Scott, but over time the team warms to him.

5) A Family Affair: Xavier sends the team on the tail of a mercenary band led by a mutant and the brother of their fallen comrade - "Black Tom" Cassidy. He is unusually witholding of information, and the team realizes that Toms partner, Cain Marko, is in fact Xavier's own step-brother, giving us a look into the professor's past.

6) Savage Times: The X-Men follow Marko and Black Tom to the Savage Land in pursuit of a lost mystic temple.

7) Nothing Can Stop the Juggernaut: Cain Marko is imbued with incredible power after bonding with the magical Cyttotark Crystal. The X-Men must stop the rampaging mercenary. In the aftermath, Black Tom is kidnapped by the Hellfire Club and wakes up in The Raft, a top secret government prison for powered individuals (including Beast), run by Donald Pierce.

8) Sewer Rats: After a mutant is attacked in NYC, the X-Men visit the Morlocks, a band of fiercely independent mutants living beneath the city. This involves a team-up with Spider-man and inadvertantly alerts the attention of J. Jonah Jameson and the Daily Bugle to these mysterious powered people.

9) Homework: Idie, Armor and the other kids sneak out of the mansion to see The Avengers, unwittingly giving the Bugle more leads to the truth about the X-Men.

10) Day Off: Cyclops visits his brother Alex, who has tried to adapt to a normal life. Cyclops, however, has been tailed by a Hellfire agent which throws Alex's carefully maintained life into chaos. The brothers team-up to fight the agent, but Alex leaves angry, hoping to find yet another new life.

11) Chess: Xavier is finally ready to make a move against the Hellfire Club. Within the mysterious organization, Black King Sebastian Shaw and White Queen Emma Frost jockey for power. An early skirmish with the X-Men is a win for the villains, but they are forced to relocate.

12) Weapon X Part 1: Wolverine's past comes into play as the X-Men's track the Hellfire Club's plans to replicate and weaponize the X-Gene. J. Jonah Jameson acts on a huge new lead and targets White King - Carlton Kilgore.

13) Weapon X Part 2: The chase for information leads to Russia, where the X-Men face down Omega Red.

14) White Queen Takes Black Bishop: After a mistep in Russia, Frost pins the blame on Shaw. The X-Men track down the Hellfire Club, rendering them their first defeat, although the Club's leaders all manage to escape.

15) Beat the Press: Armed with info from Carlton Kilgore, J. Jonah Jameson demands an audience with Professor Xavier, who takes Storm with him. Cyclops & Jean and Gambit & Rogue both go on dates, leaving Wolverine alone to deal with Jubilee, Morph and the children. Xavier wipes JJJ's mind, deletes his mutant data and warns Storm not to tell the team.

16) Brotherhood: Alex Summers search for a new identity lands him in the crosshairs of a mysterious band of mutant outlaws led by Mystique. After falling for one of their members, Polaris, Alex joins the team and takes the name Havoc.

17) Seeing Purple: The team takes on the Purple Man

18) Versimilitude: A trace encounter leads Jean to believe that her parents are still alive. She discovers that Xavier made them believe she was dead because of their fear and animosity towards her powers, and that he has been mind-wiping humans to protect mutants for years. Outraged, she quits the team.

19) White Bishop: Donald Pierce, tired of being pushed around by his superiors, discovers the truth - that both Shaw and Frost are mutants. Revealing their secret to the other board members, he traps them and decides to take the fight straight to the mutants. His cybernetic henchmen, The Reavers, attack the X-Mansion while Jubilee is the only team-member on campus. She and the students fight hard, but are taken captive.

20) Break Free: Still among the Brotherhood and now very much in love with Polaris, Havoc agrees to go with them to break her father out of The Raft. Meanwhile, Scott manages to track down Jean, but leaves when hearing about the emergency. The X-Men are forced to split up, with Wolverine, Morph and Storm going to save the captured students while Cyclops, Gambit and Rogue head to The Raft. The Brotherhood, arriving at the same time as a top-secret presentation, take hostages and free the inmates, including Polaris' father - Magneto.

21) My Turn: Wolverine's team raids the Hellfire Club headquarters. After accidentally freeing Emma and Shaw, they team up to free Jubilee and the students and take down Pierce and his Reavers. In the end, they are victorious, but at a tragic price, as Morph is killed by Shaw when the villain turns on the X-Men again and flees, reuniting with the man who was pulling his strings all along - Mr. Sinister.

22) Magneto: While the Avengers fight the escaped super-criminals, Cyclops' team meets with Beast and Black Tom. With their help, they break into The Raft and free the hostages before coming face to face with the Brotherhood. Cyclops and Havoc are forced to fight, and the heroes only gain a victory thanks to the timely return of Jean and Professor X himself. Magneto and Mystique escape, but Havoc and Polaris turn themselves over to the X-Men. In the aftermath, Xavier, under pressure from Jean, goes public to declare the existence of mutants to the world.

So there we go, Season One, quite the exciting journey. Will Disney actually let the Hellfire Club use their own name? Who knows. But here we are. The ending of the season of course sets up Emma Frost joining the team, the ramifications of mutants going public, Magneto becoming a major player and the arrival on the field of that ever-spooky Mr. Sinister. Hope you enjoyed the read.

I do believe this may be your first fan cast for an animated series, and if so, nice job!

@FlixMentallo21 - Thanks! This is indeed my first animated cast. It was really liberating, getting to choose talent like McCaan who have the perfect voice but would never get the part in live action.

@SerKurtWagner - Out of curiosity, you mention some other characters in your episode descriptions but don't seem to have voices for them. If I may, if you want some additional ideas, the Dream Casts forum on behindthevoiceactors.com could give you some good places to start.

@FlixMentallo21 - Yeah, I wanted to save some space in the post, though I had some thoughts for some of them - Beck Bennet as Cain Marko and Aiden Gillian as Black Tom, for example.

Thanks for that link. I'll have to check it out.

@SerKurtWagner - Beck Bennett as the Juggernaut? Unexpected.

@FlixMentallo21 - He has a really incredible deep voice and has experience in animation. Sure he's mostly done comedy, but so did a lot of our favorite serious actors. I think he could convey a lot of heavy menace with Marko/Juggernaut and really contrast with the lighter voices of Black Tom and Xavier.
