FANTASTIC FOUR - What Went Wrong?

The mess that ended up being Fantastic Four doesn't looks to be the result of one single factor. Fox, Josh Trank, & early fan backlash all played a part. Hit the jump for a breakdown of how one of the most bafflingly inconsistent CBM's of all time ended up that way.

This shit was awful Fox should not even think twice about giving the rights to Marvel, especially with the upcoming movies they have. Just awful.

Here's what went right.

Thing's design. If you'd just give Thing pants, he'd pretty much be perfect.

Here's what went wrong.

Speaking of Se7en, I saw that a couple weeks ago for the first time. It's hands down one of my favorite films of all time. Had to write a report on it for a Criminal Justice online class I'm taking for my major.

I'm going to go watch Se7en today.

Gotta feel bad for the cast, I didn't see the movie but from everything I've read this shit is bad. Like batman and robin bad. And for that alone they're stuck with this history or "misstory" to be dissected, studied and talked about for years to come. Godspeed to Michael b Jordan, cuz he's a good actor imo.

you know what pisses me off. So They cast Micheal B. Jordan as Johnny Storm. Everyone acts like it's some big step for racial diversity and progress.
But see this. Th white adopted child(sue) is an academic superstar. The black child is a troubled law breaker. we first encounter him doing illegal street races...
no "racial" progress was made. It only enforced existing stereotypes. I'd rather they had made him white if they were gonna pull some shit like that. Johhny Storm in the 2005/2007 films wasn't a law breaker. He was a thrill seeker.

They went through all the trouble of making him black just to reinforce existing stereotypes and do almost nothing with the character. It's like the New52 version of Wally West all over again

As an aspiring screenwriter myself (I know, who isn't), misfires like this are a great opportunity for me to consider how I would have done it differently. Haven't seen the movie, but I think in its original concept, if not the actual execution, is a great approach to the Fantastic Four - grounding the film in real, tactile science. Unlike other CBMs, where science is just alluded to in plodding exposition, F4 presents an opportunity to dive deep into the way scientists think, work, and interact. They're basically super-powered Neil Degrasse Tysons. Approaching the movie like Interstellar or even a true story of space exploration gone wrong like Apollo 13 would have helped set it aside from all other CBMs and give it a unique hook.

The other important element is family drama - the fact that while the four can be contentious at times, they truly love and respect each other and fight not exclusively to save the world but to keep each other out of harm's way.

So does anyone know how this film will fit into Infinity War? Was the Planet Zero the birthplace of Thanos?

Can't wait to see the Fant4stic in Infinity War.

I think this movie can still be salvaged just like the Amazing Spider-man series could of been salvaged if Sony hadn't thrown in the towel so soon.
People just give up too soon these days. even I had some great ideas on both Fantastic Four and the Amazing Spider-man series and sequels.
