Still no official casting announcements for Marvel Studios' Fantastic Four reboot, but the rumors continue to fly, and we have a couple of very interesting updates.
Sue Storm is said to be a focal point of the story, and it sounds like Kevin Feige and co. were aiming to secure a major A-list star to take on the role.
According to Jeff Sneider on this week's episode of the Hot Mic podcast, Emma Stone (The Amazing Spider-Man, Cruella) was offered the part of Invisible Woman back when casting first got underway, but wanted too much money. If the studio struggles to cast the role, though, they could always swing back around to Stone!
We are also hearing that Daveed Diggs (Hamilton, The Little Mermaid) is now officially in talks to play Ben Grimm/The Thing after being rumored to be a frontrunner a couple of weeks ago.
Last we heard, Adam Driver had closed his deal to play Reed Richards, but that's yet to be confirmed. Still no word on who might be in contention to portray Johnny Storm (Paul Mescal reportedly passed).
Sneider has also heard that Marvel wants to hold off on announcing the main cast until San Diego Comic-Con in July.
Matt Shakman will direct from a script by Jeff Kaplan and Ian Springer. Plot details are still a mystery, but Feige has confirmed that this will not be another origin story for the super-team.
“A lot of people know this origin story. A lot of people know the basics. How do we take that and bring something that they’ve never seen before?” he said in a 2022 interview, comparing this new take on the heroes to Marvel Studios' pact with Sony to bring Spider-Man into the MCU. “We’ve set a very high bar for ourselves with bringing that to the screen.”
