FANTASTIC FOUR: Is OPPENHEIMER Star Josh Hartnett Being Eyed To Play MCU's Doctor Doom?

The latest Fantastic Four reboot rumour suggests Oppenheimer and Black Mirror star Josh Hartnett is being eyed to play the Marvel Cinematic Universe's version of Victor Von Doom, Doctor Doom. Check it out!

Just as we were starting to think the Fantastic Four casting rumours were slowing down, another has found its way online today.

First reported by Giant Freakin Robot before being backed up by Jeff Sneider on The Hot Mic podcast, it sounds like Oppenheimer and 30 Days of Night star Josh Hartnett is being eyed for the role of Victor Von Doom/Doctor Doom in the upcoming reboot.

Interestingly, Sneider states that Doom is only expected to play a minor role in Fantastic Four, either in the movie's closing moments or during a post-credits scene.

It's wise of Marvel Studios to put Doom on the back burner for now, particularly after the villain was put front and centre in all three previous live-action movies (where he was played by Julian McMahon and Toby Kebbell).

Galactus is expected to be the big bad of Matt Shakman's movie, with an unnamed Herald - likely not Silver Surfer - expected to be at the side of the Devourer of Worlds. Based on this latest rumour, we'd guess the idea is for Doom to take aim at Marvel's First Family in an eventual sequel.

As of now, it appears Vanessa Kirby and Joseph Quinn are a lock for Invisible Woman and the Human Torch respectively.

Antonio Banderas supposedly remains in the mix to star as Galactus, while Ebon Moss-Bachrach may end up playing the aforementioned Herald or, based on recent reports, The Thing.

When it comes to the leader of the team, Adam Driver (Star Wars) and Matt Smith (Morbius) are both said to be in the mix for Mister Fantastic.

No official announcements will be made until the SAG-AFTRA strike ends and work on the movie's script is thought to have been halted thanks to the WGA strike. Whether that leads to a release date delay remains to be seen.

For now, though, Fantastic Four is set to be released in theaters on May 2, 2025.

Speaking of Oppie and F4, Rami Malek for Reed.

Please and thank you.

@DrReedRichards - Okay....I could get behind that. I'm really kind of at a loss for who should play Reed, but this works for me.

@DrReedRichards - I don’t see it though to be fair , I’m also not a big Rami Malek fan

I can honestly see Hartnett more as Reed then as Doom

@TheVisionary25 - I hate to be that guy but the only thing Harnett has in common with Reed is his skin tone. Pretty boy actor as Reed does not match for me at all.

@TheVisionary25 -

I like Hartnet's recent resurgence, especially his episode in the last season of Black Mirror, but I think I'll always see him as a pretty boy. Could more easily see him as an older Johnny, if I'm honest.

@CorndogBurglar -

I think Malek could pull the 1610 duality of the character really well, if they plan on making him The Maker down the line.

@CryinFist - fair enough

Maybe the above image made me think so

I could buy him as the intellectual type

TheVisionary25 - 9/1/2023, 7:47 AM
@DrReedRichards - maybe

I still would love Matt Smith as Reed

Dude could nail the Maker aswell!!.

@DrReedRichards - I could see that.

@TheVisionary25 -

Have to agree, I can only see Smith as Reed if they plan on making him The Maker. Can't see him as the traditional 616 family man.
TheVisionary25
TheVisionary25 - 9/1/2023, 7:51 AM
@DrReedRichards - honestly , I don’t think either Driver or Smith if they are indeed the only 2 choices for my ideal Reed (maybe moreso Driver then Smith)

My choices were Billy Crudup or Timothy Olyphant but they are too old now.

Bill Hader remains my top pick for 616, and JGL for 1610.

I don't really see pretty boy for the actor.

@dagenspear -

Not saying he hasn't grown as a performer since his beginnings as a pretty boy. Just that I haven't seen enough to think of him in a role as anything other than that.

Josh Hartnett is a fine actor who has yet to achieve his potential but this is not the role for him. Could he pull a Heath Ledger, maybe and maybe not.

I say Claes Bang for Doom!

DrReedRichards

@Forthas -

Claes Bang or Tom Ellis for Mr Sininister, please.

Both actors are @TheVisionary25's favorites.

@Forthas - I've only ever seen Claes in the Dracula show on Netflix. But man does he ever look the part; especially in that picture you posted. This is a solid choice.
Forthas
Forthas - 9/1/2023, 12:16 PM
@RedFury - he screams the part to me. The only minor drawback is he is just a bit advanced in the years at 56 especially if they want him around for like 20 years, but I don't think it is as big a concern today. Plenty of actors are still doing action films VERY late in life including Nicolas Cage, Sylvester Stallone and even Kate Blanchette who was almost 50 when she played Hela
RedFury
RedFury - 9/1/2023, 12:21 PM
@Forthas - absolutely. And even if he physically ages out of the role, they could keep him as Doom since he truly should always be under the mask. But if and when he does remove it, some simple de-aging CGI would do the trick.
