FANTASTIC FOUR: Mila Kunis Rumored To Be Up For The Role Of... The Thing!?

Previous rumors have suggested that Mila Kunis might be in line to play Sue Storm in the Fantastic Four reboot, but we're now hearing that she might actually be up for the role of The Thing!

Could Marvel Studios be planning to introduce a female take on The Thing in the upcoming Fantastic Four reboot?

Casting has been underway for a while, but we still haven't had any official word on the ensemble Kevin Feige and co. are putting together for the movie. Rumors have been rampant, however, and one name that's popped up quite a bit over the past couple of weeks is Mila Kunis (That '70s Show, Black Swan).

We had assumed that Kunis must be up for the role of Sue Storm, aka Invisible Woman, but @MyTimeToShineHello believes she may actually be in contention to play the team's ever-lovin' blue-eyed powerhouse.

According to the trusted insider, [they] "are looking at Jewish actors, both male AND female for The Thing in Fantastic Four. Mila Kunis is one of them. They have someone for Sue only reason I'm not saying who is because she already passed once so it's not final. I'm being very careful with this one."

This would certainly be a surprising (and no doubt divisive) choice, but a female version of The Thing has appeared in the comics - though it was Sharon Ventura, aka Ms. Marvel, and not Ben Grimm.

Matt Shakman is set to direct, with Jeff Kaplan and Ian Springer currently working on the script. Plot details are still a mystery, but Kevin Feige has confirmed that this will not be another origin story for the super-team.

“A lot of people know this origin story. A lot of people know the basics. How do we take that and bring something that they’ve never seen before?” he said in a 2022 interview, comparing this new take on the heroes to Marvel Studios' pact with Sony to bring Spider-Man into the MCU. “We’ve set a very high bar for ourselves with bringing that to the screen.”

Fantastic Four is currently set to hit theaters in 2024.

Meh. I think she'd be a decent Alicia if anything. John Cena would be a great Ben IMO.

@dagenspear - Why would it matter? Is he going to be celebrating Hanukah or Shabbat in the movie?

@ModHaterSLADE - I don't know. But why not seek to cast to ethnicity?

@dagenspear - Not every movie cast to ethnicity... So why hold this one to a different standard? It's more important the actor is good in the role regardless.

@ModHaterSLADE - Maybe not all are, but why not do that?

@dagenspear - I mean if they can find a talented Jewish actor that can play the character I'm all for it, I just don't see why it needs to be limited to just being Jewish in this day and age when the character's religion was never a major point of his heroics unlike Daredevil with his Catholic guilt. I mean if Oscar Isaac can play a Jewish superhero and give a good performance despite not being Jewish the same can be for The Thing.

@ModHaterSLADE - are you sure? The name Isaac sounds pretty Jewish to me.

@AwesomePromoz - Looked it up before I typed. He's not reported as being Jewish, just played several Jewish characters.

@dagenspear - Oscar Isaac isn’t jewish and he played Moon knight

@Taonrey - I like him as an actor, I really do, and I like him in the role, but I have had a preference for him to be played a jewish actor.

@ModHaterSLADE - And I think it's possible, in a more direct way, to cast an actor that can do it. I like Oscar Isaccs as an actor and in that show, but I have had a preference for a jewish actor to portray it.

@dagenspear - Who first wrote the character Jewish? Grimm isn’t really a strictly Jewish surname, more common German as far as I know.

Not interested in gender swapped Thing.

They have Sue Storm and MANY other female awesome characters.

@Alucard28 - could always team them up with she hulk in the sequel (hopefully with better cgi for her)

She was a part of the four at one point
