FANTASTIC FOUR: Mila Kunis Rumored To Be Up For The Role Of... The Thing!?

Could Marvel Studios be planning to introduce a female take on The Thing in the upcoming Fantastic Four reboot?

Casting has been underway for a while, but we still haven't had any official word on the ensemble Kevin Feige and co. are putting together for the movie. Rumors have been rampant, however, and one name that's popped up quite a bit over the past couple of weeks is Mila Kunis (That '70s Show, Black Swan).

We had assumed that Kunis must be up for the role of Sue Storm, aka Invisible Woman, but @MyTimeToShineHello believes she may actually be in contention to play the team's ever-lovin' blue-eyed powerhouse.

According to the trusted insider, [they] "are looking at Jewish actors, both male AND female for The Thing in Fantastic Four. Mila Kunis is one of them. They have someone for Sue only reason I'm not saying who is because she already passed once so it's not final. I'm being very careful with this one."

This would certainly be a surprising (and no doubt divisive) choice, but a female version of The Thing has appeared in the comics - though it was Sharon Ventura, aka Ms. Marvel, and not Ben Grimm.

Matt Shakman is set to direct, with Jeff Kaplan and Ian Springer currently working on the script. Plot details are still a mystery, but Kevin Feige has confirmed that this will not be another origin story for the super-team.

“A lot of people know this origin story. A lot of people know the basics. How do we take that and bring something that they’ve never seen before?” he said in a 2022 interview, comparing this new take on the heroes to Marvel Studios' pact with Sony to bring Spider-Man into the MCU. “We’ve set a very high bar for ourselves with bringing that to the screen.”

Fantastic Four is currently set to hit theaters in 2024.
