The Hollywood Reporter has learned that Hannah John-Kamen (Ant-Man and the Wasp; Ready Player One) has been cast as the titular warrior in Millennium's upcoming Red Sonja reboot.
Joey Soloway (Transparent; Mothertrucker) is directing the long-gestating project with a screenplay he wrote with Tasha Huo (Tomb Raider [TV]; Women in the Dirt). Both will likely also serve as executive producers.
In a statement, Soloway said, “Hannah is a very talented actress who we’ve been following for years and she IS Red Sonja. Her range, sensibilities and strength are all qualities we have been looking for and we couldn’t be more excited to embark on this journey together.”
Plot details are currently being kept under wraps, but with a star now in place, it seems likely that production will commence sometime before the end of this calendar year, if not sooner.
John-Kamen is, of course, best known for her role as Ava Starr/Ghost in Marvel Studios' Ant-Man and the Wasp, but her other recent credits also include Ready Player One, Tomb Raider, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, The Tunnel, Game of Thrones, The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance, Killjoys, The Stranger, Brave New World, and SAS: Red Notice.
Ahead of her Red Sonja debut, fans can catch her later this year as Jill Valentine in Netflix's Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City and in Jon Wright's horror film Unwelcome.
