The controversy surrounding
Johnny Depp's casting in the
Fantastic Beasts franchise has continued, now with Depp's ex-wife
Amber Heard weighing in on the matter. Heard accused Depp of domestic abuse last year, before reaching a settlement and finalizing their divorce last January. The last few weeks have seen the film's director
David Yates and
Harry Potter author
J.K. Rowling defend the actor's casting in separate statements, both of which haven't gone over well with fans on social media. Warner Bros. also decided to release a statement on the situation:
"We are of course aware of reports that surfaced around the end of Johnny Depp’s marriage, and take seriously the complexity of the issues involved," the statement said.
"This matter has been jointly addressed by both parties, in a statement in which they said 'there was never any intent of physical or emotional harm'. Based on the circumstances and the information available to us, we, along with the filmmakers, continue to support the decision to proceed with Johnny Depp in the role of Grindelwald in this and future films."
It appears this statement frustrated Heard, who took to her Instagram page to post the original joint statement made by her and Depp, along with her own thoughts, which you can read below.
Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald will arrive in theatres November 16, 2018.
