Variety have yet another Paradise Lost exclusive. They report that young Callan McAuliffe has joined Bradley Cooper, Ben Walker, Casey Affleck and Djimon Hounsou in Alex Proyas' upcoming epic..

McAuliffe will play Uriel, one of the first seven archangels created by God. When Lucifer (Cooper) rebels against God and Michael (Walker) is named commander of Heaven's army, the dedicated soldier Uriel becomes his second in command.

McAuliffe, 16, most recently appeared in the fairly awful I Am Number Four and is currently shooting Baz Luhrmann's 3D adaptation of The Great Gatsby. The cast for this one has really been coming together recently with most of the major roles now being filled. Still unconfirmed are Diego Boneta as Adam and Camilla Belle as Eve.

Lucifer and Michael, God's greatest archangels, share the bond of extraordinary friendship until God produces his greatest creation: Man. Unable to remain subservient to God if it means bowing down to humanity, Lucifer begins his dark descent and is cast out - only to plot his revenge.

I Am Number Four was absolutely terrible. Out of all the casting news, which I've loved so far, this one just sucks.

I don't know. This screenplay feels alittle too blasphemous for me.

"Upcoming epic"? Isn't this from the guy who made 'Knowing'? Let's not put the cart ahead of the horse.

He made the crow and dark city too. Knowing had Nic Cage in it, NOTHING he does is any good.... Decent casting so far, not great. At all. Cooper as the lead is already pretty wrong.

I liked I Am Number Four and I'm highly anticipating this. The casting is great so far, I can't wait to see how it turns out.

I don't find anything "blasphemous" here. It's not like Legion where I was like "What the [frick]?!" and my christian ex-girlfriend was giving me disappriving looks for choosing to watch that one lol

Legion made zero sense. With that said, if handled correctly, this film could truly be an epic not seen since LOTR.

I'm confused as to why anyone, even a hardcore Christian would find this blasphemous. Its a Biblical story after all isn't it? Few tweaks here and there aside..

I really hope this movie works. I'm very interested in seeing how well this does in theaters.

@Superman17- It's just that there is very little in scripture about this subject, which means massive embellishment, hence creating scripture, which is blasphemous...but if the bible's just a book, then no worries. It's a novel concept for a screenplay, which is refreshing in this 're-make this , re-boot that' era, but if Hollywood producers want to use the bible to base a movie on, then base it on scripture that can support it, at least on a literary level. I always thought the life of Elijah would be cool as a movie. This guy actually did-! things ,according to scripture that modern CB characters depict in the CB's and films. A REAL superhero if you will.(that sounded intelligent)

@JokerFanHAhaHA - I believe you. Thanks for the clarification. I'm not familiar with the book. However if it was as I misunderstood it to be, I wouldn't care because as @DannyRand401 so callously wrote, it's just a movie- a movie I would not watch. Though the life of Elijah, if done right, would be epic.

I'm a Christian, myself, and find this idea interesting. I would love to see this on film. OF course there are some differences to the Bible and Paradise Lost, but that doesn't mean I'm put off. Since I know what I believe in, I've always found what others to believe facinating. Dante's Inferno(The book) is a good example. It is very different from Christian belief compared to Roman Catholic. But anyways, I can not wait for this movie. Of course I won't take what it will entail literally, but it will be interesting to see something different.
