BARBIE: Amy Schumer Says REAL Reason She Left Movie Had Nothing To Do With A Scheduling Conflict

Before Margot Robbie signed on to play Barbie, Amy Schumer was attached to the lead role, and the Trainwreck star has now revealed the real reason she dropped out of the production...

Margot Robbie will play the iconic fashion doll in Greta Gerwig's upcoming Barbie movie, but an earlier incarnation of the film was going to star Amy Schumer (Trainwreck, Life and Beth) in the lead role.

When Schumer parted ways with the project a few years ago, the trades reported that it was due to a scheduling conflict, but the actress/comedian has now revealed the real reason she decided not to play the part.

“I can’t wait to see the [new] movie," she told Vulture. "I think it looks awesome. I think we said it was scheduling conflicts. But it really was just like, creative differences. But there’s a new team behind it and it looks like it’s very feminist and cool, so I will be seeing this movie.”

The original take on the story would have seen Schumer's Barbie kicked out of Barbieland for not being perfect enough, only to return to save it once she’s figured out that perfect is being yourself. We're not sure what changed to make the actress feel that it lost some of its feminist message, but it sounds like Gerwig's film brings things back on track - even if it does appear to have a different premise.

You can check out the most recent trailer below.

From Oscar-nominated writer/director Greta Gerwig (Little Women, Lady Bird) comes Barbie, which also stars America Ferrera (End of Watch, the How to Train Your Dragon films), Kate McKinnon (Bombshell, Yesterday), Issa Rae (The Photograph, Insecure), Rhea Perlman (I’ll See You in My Dreams, Matilda), and Will Ferrell (the Anchorman films, Talladega Nights), and more.

Gerwig directs from a screenplay she penned alongside Oscar nominee Noah Baumbach (Marriage Story, The Squid and the Whale), based on the iconic fashion dolls by Mattel.

The film’s producers are Oscar nominee David Heyman (Marriage Story, Gravity), Robbie, Tom Ackerley and Robbie Brenner, with Gerwig, Baumbach, Ynon Kreiz, Richard Dickson, Michael Sharp, Josey McNamara, Courtenay Valenti, Toby Emmerich and Cate Adams serving as executive producers.

Studios have no issue saying "Creative Differences" even when it's "top talent" leaving a project. I do believe there's a reason other than scheduling, but I don't think it's a matter of creative differences.

It was for the best, just like Orange man getting 38 counts for *checks notes* most likely acting as a spy for papa Putin. Sorry, had to

@bobevanz - LOL cuz those spy accusations have worked so well up this point. It sucks cuz DeSantis is truly even worse. And if Maga can't vote Donald they will vote Ronald. Either way..... Joe doesn't stand a chance. And the DNC has become truly stalin-esque.

@regularmovieguy - I thought so too but the smoking gun is the recording of Trump showing someone a document that no one can find. His defense will argue it was trump boasting w hot air as usual. And the trial is in Florida no? So I'm not so sure honestly. I genuinely don't believe it's open and shut because said doc so far doesn't exist.

Never really been a fan of Amy Schumer, so the less of her the better.

Real question though?? how many of you will admit to wanting to go see this movie? Probably more than the guys who'll fess up to seeing at least 1 magic mike movie! haha

Barbie though, i'm curious, with the sheer talent that's involved.

@UniqNo - I'd see it. The cast is great and the story actually looks like fun. Plus! Will Ferrell as the bad guy, playing a goofy CEO has to be funny.

@PC04 @Reeds2Much - agreed! i think even Tom Cruise is scared! he's tried getting the release date for this and Nolan's latest moved.

@ShimmyShimmyYA - Yeah, i think Box office wise though, Barbie is going to kill it. May be the first time in a while that Nolan's movie opens at number 2.

WB: “So we have two options. Option A is we get Margot Robbie to play a comedic Barbie doll questioning her existence within the world, and we get Ryan Gosling to play the goofy sidekick Ken. Option B is we get Amy Schumer to do it, and it’s just two hours of Barbie ad-libbing about being fat and talking about vaginas even though Barbie dolls famously don’t have anything down there.”

She's fat, ugly, and not funny or talented at all. Might have had something to do with it.

The answer is obvious. I don’t know much about Barbie but it’s been around for decades so their doing something right. If it ain’t broke don’t try to fix it.

South Park once made fun of her by having Cartman saying her jokes and thinking it's feminism. That's pretty much her to a tee.

The fat jokes are not cool, y'all.

That said, Amy Schumer is the worst. Nothing to do with her appearance in the slightest, she's just horrible as a performer and a person.

@SummersEssex - Fat jokes directed at Any Schumer are always cool.

And with over half of the US population being overweight or obese these days, maybe we should bring back fat shaming. This acceptance nonsense doesn’t seem to be producing desirable results for society.

@mountainman - its true. over 50% of americans are obese causing the landmass of the country to sink 0.25mm into the ocean each year according to my research which is correct no less than 7% of the time.

in conclusion. stop eating cake. or do. you dont owe this world a thing Clark.

Digs at her looks aside, I do think Schumer is sporadically funny. Her stand-up stuff is decent.
