Having thrived and evolved for eight consecutive decades in the public imagination- in prose and graphics, on the big screen and small, in games and properties of all kinds- Conan's exploits in the Hyborian Age now come alive like never before in a colossal 3D action-adventure film. A quest that begins as a personal vendetta for the fierce Cimmerian warrior soon turns into an epic battle against hulking rivals, horrific monsters, and impossible odds, as Conan realizes he is the only hope of saving the great nations of Hyboria from an encroaching reign of supernatural evil.

Conan the Barbarian is set to hit theatres on August 19!

Looks like Howard's Hyboria and Conan! Finally!

OneEyedWillie@ Considering it is R-rated there should be plenty of blood and boobs, but not necessarily in that order. :-P

It says "This film is not yet Rated" and until i see an R there i'm holding my breath. This will suck so many un shown boobies and implied death if it's anything but R...FACT!

Why does this need to be in 3D again?

World's greatest amateur cliche movie lines.

"You will kneel before me" No, really?

"No man should live in chains" And stealing is bad and all we need is love.

"I will follow you to hell" wow.

"I want your head" They must be reading from the bad action movie dialog manual.

Even the movie guy gets terrible, cliche, eye-rolling lines.

"When evil reigns, one warrior will stand." *sigh*

"An Empire..." Let me guess, will fall? "..will fall" I WIN!!!!

delatour@ According to the screenwriter:

"How graphic is the sex and violence in Conan the Barbarian? As a screenwriter on Conan the Barbarian, I get asked this question a lot.

The world of Hyboria, as Robert E. Howard described it, is fleshy and brutal. Bloody beheadings and bare-chested slave girls abound. However, while the movie is unflinching in its depiction of barbarism, slavery and warfare, the violence and nudity emerge from the fabric of the story. It isn't gratuitous.

Robert E. Howard's stories, although violent and perverse for their time, were not intrusively graphic either. So this is ultimately a movie about the character Conan, a character that will hopefully launch a healthy franchise of movies with stories and characters that celebrate Robert E. Howard's work. Yes, you'll see blood and boobs, but this isn't a Cinemax movie; it's epic action/fantasy.

And yes, it's rated R."

@NeoBaggins, the Conan comix are full of those quotations that you mentioned... what can they do? Some shakespearean lines to [frick]ing Conan? C'mon...

@Ranger14, agreed! But remember the comics [I think 99% knows Conan by comics and not by REH tales]... the stories are full of beheaded bodies and dismembering, and, 'course, some hot chicks!

OneEyedWillie@ Well, this is being based off the books and I have never picked up a comic but there is plenty of violence and dismembering in the books...and hot women. I think you would be surprised to find out how many people actually have read Howard's books. :-)

SamHell@ He looks much more the beast than Arnold who was big and bulky and that was it. Mass alone does not make one a "beast". Conan was described as agile and panther-like in action and movement. Not even a contest as to who fits that description better and Momoa looks much more like Conan than Arnold ever could. If you were to meet Momoa you wouldn't be saying that Momoa doesn't look like a beast. The guy is big and is at least two inches taller. Even though he doesn't have Arnold's mass, the guy is imposing. Momoa is quicker, more flexible, looks more like Conan, handles the sword better and will be much more ferocious than Arnold ever could have hoped to be.
