I think these pictures look pretty damn good. He certainly looks more like the classic version of Conan in the face than Arnold ever did and he does look bigger in these pics than he did in the previous ones.

BryEL@ I feel the same way. :-)

Here is a lighter copy of the second image: I see you got it updated now.

I think Momoa looks pretty badass and much more like Conan should than Arnold did. I will sacrifice some muscle for the overall look and Momoa's skill at fighting and handling the sword, which is critical for the persona of Conan.

I think we are at the mercy of the writing and directing to see how this really turns out now. I am confident with Momoa's role. One thing that I wish they would have done more is making him look more scarred. It is hard to tell from these photo, but it doesn't appear they have done much there. I guess we will wait for better shots to see.

AlexDeLarge87 - 5/15/2010, 4:55 AM
Ranger14@ You got that right! More scarred Conan would be a more realistic character! Especially because we know that the Slave-Traders are going to make him a Slave and later somebody buys him and he becomes a Gladiator so the scars would be totally needed!:)
BLOOD, SCARS AND CONAN´S BRUTALLITY THATS WHAT THE MOVIE NEEDS! OUH!... And great acting of course!

From the looks: more Conan than Arnold ever was! Maybe this will be worth watching...
Ranger14
Ranger14 - 5/15/2010, 10:09 AM
I dont' think Arnold had near the vertical leap that Momoa does in the bottom image. lol Conan was described as very agile and panther-like. Momoa fits the bill, can act better and is much more skilled at the hacking and slashing part of the role. Like I said, now we have to see how the writing and direction goes. I am very optimistic now, given the new images.

@Ranger

Yea, that's really my only concern now too! I think Marcus Nispel has an interesting visual style that could work well in a Conan film. Problem is, he's just not very good at directing. I hope he can actually get his actors to...ya know, act! That's his problem, imo. He's got the eye, but he can't seem to actually direct anyone...

Momoa is the least of my concerns with this film, i'm more worried about Nispel, Donnelly, Hood, & Oppenheimer...

Wow....looks like Rachel took a bit of a beating!!!

ARNIE IS CONAN
DDD
DDD - 5/15/2010, 12:43 PM
Momoa looks more bulked up
in the photos up top but I
still don't have much confidence
in this because of the director.
That is the biggest problem I see
here!

Conan is not an Indian
he's an ancient Irishman, I'm not
the one who just made that up,
Howard E. Smith wrote it so!
I really want them to do it according
to the pulp stories not the paperback
covers!

Arnie looked the most like the
Conan of the pulp stories and
the Marvel Comic Books drawn
by John Buscema. Like a guy
who could grab a horse by the
chest and wrestle it to the
ground in order to kill the
warrior upon it's back!

Conan is RAW POWER! He's big
and thick and powerful with
enough bulk to throw a horse
around.

But the real 'if' here is the
writing and the directing!
DDD
DDD - 5/15/2010, 12:57 PM
Too bad Ridley Scott isn't directing this instead
of the guy who directed PATHFINDER! "PATHFINDER
people! Have you seen that movie? That is Nispell
at his best which is just plain awful! I mean he
had Karl Urban in that piece of poop...and just
look at it! He just can't direct human beings!
He just wastes them.

Uwe Boll directs people better than Nispell...
Uwe Boll!!! Uhg!
DDD
DDD - 5/15/2010, 1:04 PM
That top left picture is only of his shoulder and chest.
You can't see the lower part of his arm. In the other
first picture you can see all of him very clearly
and he's not that bulky! He was in costume in that first
picture we got. That is the real way he will look in the
movie, that first picture with him in the kilt-thing!
Ranger14
Ranger14 - 5/15/2010, 1:11 PM
Sorry DDD, but I am a Robert Howard guy and am glad they are going with his Conan as opposed to the knock-offs. Guess that is why I am happy with things so far. Still much remains to be seen as we both acknowledge, but I will take Momoa over Arnold to deliver an ass-kicking Conan on screen any day. Arnold's sword play and fighting style is going to look like slow motion and rudimentary compared to Momoa.
LEEE777
LEEE777 - 5/15/2010, 1:53 PM
Hmmm pile of SH1TE lol!

Its not what he looks like, its that he's not a strong enough actor to carry the whole movie!

Power to the guy, but i still reckon he'd be a better villain in this if anything!

I hope MOMOA proves me wrong!

BY THE WAY...

RACHEL NICHOLS would have made the PERFECT RED SONJA!!!

DDD@ Nispel´s directing skills worries me too but i hope he proves me wrong!
Ranger14
Ranger14 - 5/15/2010, 3:37 PM
Let me get this straight Lee...Momoa isn't a strong enough actor to carry the movie, yet he can act better than Arnold, looks more like Conan than Arnold, can fight and handle the sword much better and more fluidly than Arnold could....but...he can't carry the movie. I find it funny that you and others challenge Momoa's acting skills, especially when we are comparing him to Arnold.

Arnold had very few lines and most of them were cheesy in that film, his swordmanship was bludgeon style and he wasn't as fantastic as everyone remembers him to be, while the film is still good; I believe that Momoa can pull off the look of Conan, with better and understandable dialogue much better sword and fighting skills that would fit in the Conan world things that Arnold was just way too bulky to carry out. The truth is that the bodybuilder look may have been what people picture Conan as but Momoa is probably closer to what someone with those skills would look like. The problem is the Director and this could end up being Pathfinder all over again.
