The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies will conclude with an epic 45-minute fight pitting a variety of Middle-Earth races against each other t the foot of the Lonely Mountain as they all take aim at the dwarven treasure of Erebor. Some new stills from the movie give us a first look at the titular battle as well as director Peter Jackson's notes on how to bring it to life on the big screen. "There’s a lot of logistics that have to be thought through," he tells Entertainment Weekly. "We have dwarves and men and elves and orcs, all with different cultures, with different weapons, and different shields and patterns and tactics. Before we could loose the first arrow, we had to design the landscape itself and figure out, ‘Okay, if we have 10,000 orcs, how much room are they going to take up?’ ” Jackson says. “ ‘Are they going to fill up the valley or look like a speck?’ Then we could start drawing the arrows on the schematics." Are you guys looking forward to the movie?

“The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies” brings to an epic conclusion the adventures of Bilbo Baggins, Thorin Oakenshield and the Company of Dwarves. Having reclaimed their homeland from the Dragon Smaug, the Company has unwittingly unleashed a deadly force into the world. Enraged, Smaug rains his fiery wrath down upon the defenseless men, women and children of Lake-town. Obsessed above all else with his reclaimed treasure, Thorin sacrifices friendship and honor to hoard it as Bilbo’s frantic attempts to make him see reason drive the Hobbit towards a desperate and dangerous choice. But there are even greater dangers ahead. Unseen by any but the Wizard Gandalf, the great enemy Sauron has sent forth legions of Orcs in a stealth attack upon the Lonely Mountain. As darkness converges on their escalating conflict, the races of Dwarves, Elves and Men must decide – unite or be destroyed. Bilbo finds himself fighting for his life and the lives of his friends in the epic Battle of the Five Armies, as the future of Middle-earth hangs in the balance.

Starring Martin Freeman, Ian McKellen, Richard Armitage, Evangeline Lilly, Lee Pace, Luke Evans, Benedict Cumberbatch, Ken Stott, James Nesbitt, Cate Blanchett, Ian Holm, Hugo Weaving and Orlando Bloom, The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies is set to be released on December 17th.

The Eagles do not fight as an army, they try to remain neutral but they do intervene to save good over evil.

@JoeMomma In the Hobbit book Orcs and Goblins are interchangeable so in terms of the book the armies are Wargs, Goblins, Men, Dwarves and Elves. Whether this is changed for the movie is yet to be seen.

@grayfox

Yes true but the Goblins are not Orcs and they have their own King. So it is the following.

1. Men
2. Dwarves
3. Elves
4. Goblins
5. Wars/Orcs

That would make sense for the movie. I forgot that Azog and his cronies are a factor in this. -Sigh-

Looking forward to this, might not be as hyped as I was when the first Hobbit movie was announced. But this will probably be the last time we see Middle Earth again, so it'll be a bitter sweet moment.

Put down the funny smelling cigarette when you watch these movies.

yes but these movies have deviated so far from the source material in so many nit picky ways, that the wargs have been made into nothing more than mounts for the orcs. who, i might add are supposed to be attacking from gundabad in the north not dol guldor in the south of mirkwood. sooooo.... i suppose that the orcs riding wargs constitute one army as far as the movies are concerned and if you read the source link article jackson has yet again changed it up concerning the eagles so they will be technically the 5th army... whoo im out of breath lol

Oh! thanks! I always thought that it was either eagles or wargs... I guess we'll find out what twist will they have on this on the movie soon!

the goblins of the misty mountains are pissed from the death of the great goblin (not the goblin king.. no such character exists in tolkien your thinking labyrinth with david bowie) in the book, they track the company from the mountain gate where they meet the wolves(not wargs)already having chased the company up some trees. the movie added the unnecessary and supposed to be dead azog, skipped the eagles eyrie altogether lost track of about 2-3 sunrises/sunsets all within the last 15 minutes of the first movie, added the bolg/azog switcheroo in the first 15 minutes of the second movie making it really hard to fan-edit the fluff out, and god knows what jackson has done to the last 3rd of the story.

bats, eagles, wargs, orcs, goblins, trolls, elves , men , dwarves... i really hope there are no other made up cgi creatures added in after dwarves on goats and pigs, but it looks like it, after looking at that troll/furry thing? in the image above. and im a computer animator for crying out loud lol

sansClaymore - 10/23/2014, 7:55 PM
im already working on a fan-edit to make these movies closer in line to the book. by removing all orc and azog scenes entirely from the first half of the film and replacing azog with random orc shots during the final scene of unexpected journey. im fearful it will be nearly impossible depending on how the third film turns out. trying to replace him with bolg as it should be.
lol

It's funny I really can't stand the LOTR trilogy or the first Hobbit movie, but I love Desolation of Smaug. Not sure why but that movie just traps me every time, I've watched it probably a dozen times in the past 2 months on HBO.
