A great new King Arthur movie may be just around the corner, but it's path to the cinema has been somewhat tumultuous, to say the least.

Variety reported earlier this week that Warner Bros. has pushed King Arthur: Legend of the Sword from its former March 24th date back two months to May 12.

The potential franchise-starter will now face-off with James Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2, which will be in its second week, and Ridley Scott's Alien: Covenant, which arrives the following week. While that doesn't seem ideal, it may turn out to be for the best as it previously would've had to take on more immediate competition with Power Rangers & Life opening the same weekend as well as holdovers Beauty and the Beast
Kong: Skull Island in their second and third weeks, respectively, and then, Ghost in the Shell the week after.

This is the fourth time the Guy Ritchie-directed feature has been pushed back after initially being dated for July 22, 2016 before being moved to February 17, 2017, then March 24, and now, to its current date of May 12.

The film stars Charlie Hunnam (Pacific Rim) as the titular King and features a supporting cast that includes Àstrid Bergès-Frisbey (Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides) as Guinevere, Jude Law (Sherlock Holmes) as the villainous Vortigern, Djimon Hounsou (Guardians of the Galaxy), Eric Bana (Hulk), Mikael Persbrandt (The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies), Hermione Corfield (Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation), Annabelle Wallis (The Mummy), and Aidan Gillen (Game of Thrones).

So, what do you guys think? Sound off with your thoughts below!

The young Arthur runs the back passages of Londonium with his crew, not knowing his royal lineage until he grabs Excalibur. Instantly confronted by the sword’s influence, Arthur is forced to make up his mind. Joining the rebellion and an enigmatic young woman named Guinevere, he must learn to address her and eventually understand her magic weapon, deal with his demons and unite the people to defeat the dictator Vortigern, the man who murdered his parents and stole his crown to become king.
