I Guess The Schmoes Do Know! Tim Burton IS In Talks To Direct BEETLEJUICE 2

A few days ago, sources for Schmoes Know podcast reported that Tim Burton, director of 1988's Beetlejuice, was returning for the sequel, and now that information has been confirmed by The Wrap.

Sources for The Wrap have just confirmed Schmoes Know's recent rumor; that Tim Burton is in talks to direct Beetlejuice 2. They also confirmed Michael Keaton will be back as the ghost with the most.
Tim Burton’s involvement in “Beetlejuice 2″ is no longer a rumor, as he’s officially in talks to direct the sequel for Warner Bros., multiple individuals familiar with the project have told The Wrap. Michael Keaton is expected to reprise his role as the titular fast-talking, black-and-white stripe-wearing ghost with the most.

Several attempts to get a sequel off the ground have been tried before and failed. Even one involving Beetlejuice going to Hawaii. Thank goodness that never happened. The latest writer to take a crack at it is Seth Grahame-Smith, and by the sudden movement on this long gestating project we can assume he came up with something interesting. Keep in mind, Seth's last two screenplays, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter (produced by Burton) and Dark Shadows (directed by Burton), didn't light up the box office. Thoughts?

Mm, hopefully this is actually a decent film. Burton hasn't had one of those in years.

It's fvcking showtime, now, bitches!!!
Years ago they were saying "BeetleJuice 2", with Keaton and Burton.
Then, not too long back they were sayin "Beetlejuice 2" without Burton.
Now they say it again.
Three times the charm, for the gost with the most.
Good Hallow's Eve new, there.

I absolutely love the movie but I am reluctant to get behind this idea.

Riding high on the nostalgic love of the original film to get approval/acceptance for a sequel that isn't really necessary 25-27 years later can be a dangerous bet.

This could be 'Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull' all over again.

I say Burton just make a new ghost comedy and let it stand on it's merits, rather than create something banking off of an older film that the chances of it being as amazing as it's predecessor are pretty slim.

After the disastrous Dark Shadows, lukewarm Alice in Wonderland, and mediocre Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, I'd have thought he'd be ready to move on to something new.

The time for Beetlejuice 2 has long passed.

Wow, alot of negativity. I mean think about, teenagers and adults alot more "loose" about things now than they were back then. Reality tv, updated technology, miley cyrus! This is the perfect time for his return! His abilities and antics have unlimited potential. I could see Beetlejuice as the ultimate internet troll. Weather or not it actually turns out to be a success is, of course, yet to be seen but I for one am excited.

Some movies just don't need a sequel.

I mean I loved Beetlejuice as anyone else does, but I don't think it deserves, in my opinion. I'm just going to have an open mind and wait and see how it goes.

Like the rest of u I really enjoyed the first film. I can't help but get slightly excited about the idea, but not sure its actually necessary, especially so many years from the first. This generation may hardly even know Beetlejuice. But idk. I will still be watching it.

On a side note, I didnt think Dark Shadows was terrible...just okay. Actually of the Burton films I can think of off the top of my head,

Dark Shadows - ok
Big Fish - Awesome
Charlie & The Choc. Fact. - Good
Alice in Wonderland - Very Good
Batman - Awesome
Batman Returns - Very Good
Beetlejuice - Awesome
Nightmare Before Xmas - Awesome
Corpse Bride - ugh

most are actually above average films. I still think burton is an amazing director.

@beto - thats an interesting idea

1st, @Beto, that would be sick!!..2nd, @Cherry I agree with you 100%...3, @Avatar, because all comicbooks aren't about Marvel and DC...Last, if this is from the writers of the rebooted Dark Shadows I'm all in...people can have their opinions about Depp/Burton but that movie was awesome!!..after a decade of horrible Vampire movies it was nice to see someone put a little bit of thought into it...even-though it was a reboot...plus Keaton needs to be in more movies...going to see the new Robocop just to see his performance...
