Here we have our first bit of casting news for Guy Ritchie's King Arthur movie, which will be officially titled Knights Of The Roundtable: King Arthur. The Wrap report that CBM fave Idris Elba is in negotiations to play the role of a Knight named Bedivere, "Arthur's father's right-hand man who takes it upon himself to train the young warrior for battle as he learns his true destiny." It was rumored that WB were looking at Ritchie to bring a six-film take on the classic tale to the screen, but if that is the case there's no mention of it here. There have been various movies, comics and tv shows based around Arthurian legend over the years, including the underrated Camelot and the mediocre Disney produced flick with Clive Owen in the title role. The most successful take was arguably John Boorman's Excalibur back in 1981. Akiva Goldsman and Tory Tunnell will produce, Joby Harold (Awake, Edge Of Tomorrow) is on script duty. The movie is set for a July 22, 2016 release.

A King Arthur series has potential although I doubt it will live up to it. Also, I don't know about this character, but is he foreign? I don't exactly have an extreme in depth knowledge of Arthurian mythology but I take it having a black man in England during this time was... unusual.

Seeing a good Beowulf series might be cool or a standalone film... or if they wish to do films based on English history then either the Anarchy or the War of the Roses would be good.

@DrDoom

Unfortunately with stupid titles like Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of JUSTICE(!) and this, it seems filmmakers with the more bloated the title is, the better.

@batz11: debatable, King Arthur allegedly lived soon afterward or around the fall of the Roman Empire and recent studies show that there probably were a lot of non celtic people including blacks and middle easterns togheter with mediterranean whites, and it seems a good portion of them were also from wealthy families during roman times, then there were the saxon invasions and the relative lack of mobility of the middle ages mad them "blend in".

Also, overanalizing aside, it may be that they are choosing a "pure fantasy" approach like Boorman's (nobody wore full plate before the renaissance) or the british "arthurian smallville" or "Merlin" as it's usually known.

Idris Elba is a boss to the max. Few individuals in Hollywood are as swagged out and badass as him. Luther?? Yes!! So underused in MCU. He and Ritchie teaming up again is gold. He was great in Rock N Rolla. A black knight?? Why not have up the history. Bedivere was white and I belive gay but whateve. Maybe now he's a former African warrior, who has either emigrated England or was brought as a slave unfortunately, whom Arthur's father hired to train his son.

There were moors in Europe at the time, moors where Arabic and Berber warriors from Africa. They even ruled all of Spain for before they where defeated by the Romans.

It's a shame that black people have been erased from history and is only known for being slaves.

@Pheezmatic:

Streaks on the china, never mattered before;
Who cares?

No one glared.
But sometimes things get turned around

Mediocre?? Idk what you're talking about. The directors cut of King Arthur is superb!

Also, ifthe subtitle is King Arthur then you know it is gonna be a multi movie series. Maybe one focusing on a different knight each time
