Immortals Opens Up To An Impressive $1.3 Million At Midnight Screenings!

Released to mixed reviews, Immortals still managed to earn an impressive $1.3 million at 1,024 midnight showings. This just about tops the amount taken by Rise of the Planet of the Apes back in August and easily bests the $700,000 earned by Battle: Los Angeles during its debut. Today, the movie opens in 3,100 locations across the US.

It faces competition from Jack and Jill, Puss in Boots and may even be dealt a small blow by Clint Eastwood's J. Edgar. The site mention that Immortals, which stars Man of Steel's Henry Cavill as well as Mickey Rourke, Stephen Dorff, Freida Pinto and Luke Evans, has scored high at test screenings and also opened in a variety of international locations today.

Relativity insiders reveal that Immortals only has to open to $25 million for the studio to be on a secure financial footing with tracking currently suggesting somewhere between $25 million to $26 million.

Just that? Iron Man 2, that movie that Mickey Rourke seems to hate so much, made $7.5 million on it's midnight screenings.

I've been looking at different site sites from rottentomatoes to metacritic and most of the reviews were very mixed to negative. As far Cavill's performance, good percent of the reviews I read said he did pretty well or at least his best despite some bad dialog and such. Ultimately the biggest criticisms are as expected, the story was poor, a very stylized and visually stunning film with a lot of violence, blood and gore, but its pretty hollow when it comes to substances. However, I'll see the film myself tomorrow.

this movie kinda sucks... just got back from watching it. It has very awkward cuts and music cues. They tried to copy the gladiator helmet and several fight scenes from 300. Lots of things didn't flow very well at all nor make sense. 300 is FAR better than this movie. Very sad about all this indeed... I was really looking forward to this movie. :/

^ @shadowlord - yeah, his acting was good with what he had to work with. the dialog was weak and not his fault at all. I believe he will make a great superman personally. the fight scenes were the best part of the movie... at least the ones with the gods involved.

I don't get why this movie's getting so much praise. The costumes alone look cheap and gaudy as hell. I mean, really, is this-> http://www.aceshowbiz.com/images/still/immortals-pic05.jpg meant to be the God of War? Say what you will about the Clash remake, but at least they had better costume design than this shit.

The acting in this doesn't look all that stellar either. I seen just about every clip that's been released so far, and from what I've seen the movie looks very derivative and underwhelming. Everybody can do flashy CG and spam slo-mo these days.

Saw it last night. It was way better than I expected. Didn't even know it was R rated until recently. Some truly stunning action scenes and visuals plus Cavill did a good job. Definitely worth checking out.

@ncreb

yes movies borrow from other movies but they dont completely copy a whole scene like the one i posted so my point is not moot.

WarNoodle - 11/11/2011, 2:17 PM
WOW!!!... forgot all about that with house of flying daggers... this whole movie was a rip off though.. they even did the side view slow motion attack like they did in 300... LAME!!! I think the only cool unique battle was the fight with the gods and the titans, thats about all really.

Nolan copies his own movies every time just dub Batman Begins over Inception and it fits.

So, let me get this straight, Immortals got a lowly 40% critics rating and Iron Man 2 got a very decent 74% critics rating. Yet, Mickey Rourke and some people on this site say that IM2 sucks?

Immortals was alright and the 3d wasn't bad. As for Mickey Rourke and the shit he's been talking about his role in IM2. His role as villian in this movie isn't much better. His villian has the same motive as in IM2, and that was revenge. Same villian, different movie

TayDee - 11/11/2011, 2:52 PM
Actually my bad, revenge wasn't the motive, he wanted to be remembered! Still a shitty villian!

i still wanna see it. Tarsem deserves to score one big hit, at least. his visual's just outta this world...too bad snyder and the others beat him to the punch, thus, people dubbing him copying other people's work.
