JUMANJI Actor Kevin Hart Reportedly In Talks To Play Roland In Live-Action BORDERLANDS Movie

We found out earlier this year that Cate Blanchett had closed her deal to play one of the leads in Eli Roth's big-screen adaptation of the Borderlands video game, and Kevin Hart is now said to be in talks.

The surprising news that none other than Cate Blanchett (Thor: Ragnarok, The Lord of the Rings) had signed on to play Lilith in Cabin Fever director Eli Roth's adaptation of Gearbox Software and 2K's Borderlands video game was confirmed earlier this year, and we now have word on another potential cast member.

According to The Illuminerdi, Jumanji star Kevin Hart is in negotiations to take on the role of Roland in the movie. This take on the character is described as a "decent man and grizzled veteran, as well as a former member of the Crimson Lance who now operates as a soldier."

We're not sure how advanced these talks are, but we'll likely hear more as soon as the trades get wind of this!

Borderlands is a somewhat bizarre and very violent first-person, loot-based shooter which focuses on four “Vault Hunters” fending off local marauders while searching for advanced alien tech on a planet called Pandora. There have been three games released so far, and all have done very well. Borderlands 3 hit shelves last year and has already sold 8 million copies.

This big-screen take is being developed at Lionsgate and will work off a script from Chernobyl screenwriter Craig Mazin. Roth will also produce along with Avi and Ari Arad through their Arad Productions banner.

What do you guys make of this news? Do you think Hart is a good fit for Roland? Let us know in the usual place.

Interesting choice. I like Hart when he's given good material as I'm not a fan of his stand-up routines. I'm not too familiar with Borderlands but does it have a touch of humor in it? Could that be why they are going with a comedic actor?

@MovieMonster - The games are off-the-wall ridiculous and try way too hard to be funny. I, personally, find them a bit obnoxious. The games are incredibly popular, though. Kevin Hart should fit right in.

@dracula

Hahaha I’m half joking about the call of duty movie. Although Black Ops with its zombies could be fun.
