Disney has just released the official "Legacy" trailer for their upcoming film, Maleficent. It's a new spin on the classic Sleeping Beauty fairy tale and stars Angelina Jolie as the titular horned sorceress. Check it out.

“Maleficent” is the untold story of Disney’s most iconic villain from the 1959 classic “Sleeping Beauty.” A beautiful, pure-hearted young woman, Maleficent has an idyllic life growing up in a peaceable forest kingdom, until one day when an invading army threatens the harmony of the land. Maleficent rises to be the land’s fiercest protector, but she ultimately suffers a ruthless betrayal—an act that begins to turn her pure heart to stone. Bent on revenge, Maleficent faces an epic battle with the invading king’s successor and, as a result, places a curse upon his newborn infant Aurora. As the child grows, Maleficent realizes that Aurora holds the key to peace in the kingdom—and perhaps to Maleficent’s true happiness as well.

Maleficent is being directed by Robert Stromberg, based on a screenplay by Paul Dini and Linda Woolverton. The cast includes: Angelina Jolie, Elle Fanning, Sharlto Copley, Juno Temple, Sam Riley, Miranda Richardson and Imelda Staunton. Will land in theaters May 30, 2014.

As a kid, I never much liked Sleeping Beauty (hell, I still don't like it now), but Maleficent was and is one of my favorite Disney villains.

I also like what Disney is trying to do with origins films like this. As adults, the villains aren't they interesting. They have very weak and flimsy motivations (hell, Maleficent wanted to kill the girl just because she got snubbed a party invite). And films like this attempt to flesh out the character.

Also, the voice-over was very much in the spirit of 'Voice-Over-Man' Hal Douglas such was his influence on the art.

Disney Box Office strategy in full force...when does this come out? O the week after the competition...Stomp, Stomp, Stomp. Marvel/Disney target is not us nerd man-boys...its WOMEN and young girls.. This movie is designed to draw in that demo and that demo. Not to mention, this is the THIRD trailer for a movie that comes out a week later?

@m0th3r, yes the target audience is women and girls...but how many of those are on this site? 99.999% of users on this site are male. And they're all talking about how good the movie looks.

Second BIG CBM movie for the second year in a row to be attacked on week two by a Walt Disney feature. What knocked MoS out week 2? Monsters U. If you look at the logarithmic decline in box office sales, losing week two is devastating if you are going for the billion dollar mark. Been shot down here a few times, but i'm telling ya Pixar + Marvel + Lucasfilm + Walt Disney Studios == Box office Control


Think about it..in a year Disney can drop 2 Marvel Movies(maybe 3), 1 Star Wars, 1 Pixar, and 2 BIG Disney Movies....They are TRYING to squash the CBM competition. Notice no disney feature after Spider-man? Benefits of playing nice.

I know for some its a stretch...but i play to win..and if i was Feige and/or Disney exec and i could kick them in the balls and help my win at the same time...well why wouldn't you?

When she was younger and actually weighed more than 100 pounds she was extremely attractive, but her personality and spirit is what makes her so sexy. I bet she would burn one with you n never tell you no, no matter what you ask of her in the bed room(bet billy bob and her bro would agree, lol). But on a serious note, they could not have casted a better actress to play this role. Its crazy how much she looks like the old cartoon.

The movie looks on par with Hansel and Gretel, Jack the Giant Slayer, Snow White and the Huntsman and barely peaking OZ or Alice type quality. And yet, "we" love it lol

I guess if you're going to blow MARVEL, you can't neglect the Disney balls.

Shit looks crazy mediocre to put it mildly.

@NeoBaggins I'd be surprised if its better then any of those(didnt care for OZ or Alice either)..its not going to be a good movie..but like i said, thats not the business plan..its to drive half the demographic to this movie instead of week two of DoFP. Its not blowing Marvel to point out they are using their weight and throwing it around...actually closer to a critic since no one likes a big bully

I hope that its better than that awful Oz the Great and Pussiful movie.

I want a Marvel Fairytales comic of Sleeping Beauty with Guardians of the Galaxy and instead of Aurora its Gamora. I bestow upon you the gift of the sexy, the gift of the baddassery, and ... well what more do you really need?

This trailer blended the animated movie with the live-action one... That's an interesting approach.

I think this looks pretty good.
