The Hobbit trilogy equivalent to Star Wars prequel trilogy = awful.

There is so much over the top CGI action scenes, pure shit. Disappointed as [frick].

Look at all that gold if Middle Earth was real Smaug would be hoarding trillions. I can't wait to see this movie I have my tickets ready. I so am not a fan of paying 15 for matinée. But I just had to go and see it in the high frame. Adding a pop and popcorn I will easily be spending another ten dollars. But it will be worth every penny. Less then one day now until I see the film.

That's funny because the Bilbo pic they used in the bg is the same one they have been using of him in every single promotional image: Empire and latest posters. Lazy WB.

His eye is actually only like twice the size of Bilbo's head.

Bad stuff:

1. The CGI - EVERYTHING is over the top. Every single action sequence is like, "ok, that's enough". They make Legolas look like a CGI-doll who is invincible, he is FAAR from being the same character in LotR. They manage to make me hate Legolas for being so overpowered.

2. The Dwarfs - You only relate to one dwarf in this movie, that's Kili, rest is just annoying and stupid. Thorin's charge last movie made him look a complete dumbshit, and that shits keeps on going.

The river scene relates to Chan in hangover "it's funny cuz he's fat".

3. Gandalf - He is barely in this movie, probably a total of 20-30 minutes. We lack a smart character like him, the other guys is too stupid to lead a big group and make important decisions.

4. Fact that Gandalf's side mission is more interesting than the real mission is a failure. This movie should've been 2 hours, not 2h and 45min.

5. The soundtracks - This trilogy has a much bigger budget than LotR, still they haven't manage to make a single epic soundtrack. This is how a soundtrack of this budget should sound like (/watch?v=44kBN340vd4). Fact is, there is barely any soundtracks at all, just silence and bullshit talking.

6. Too many yawn jokes - This is the problem with this trilogy, it doesn't feel like anything from the LotR. The dialogues between Gimli and Legolas were actually funny, these "jokes" simply feels forced. They had one good joke, Legolas commented Gimli's look, hilarious tbh.

Good things:

1. Gandalf - without Gandalf everything would fall. Ian is a rock, no doubt.

2. Tauriel - Evangeline Lilly is fantastic tbh, she's actually like Legolas in LotR.

Last thing, my friend had a wise comment: "If we didn't have the LotR in the back of our head, I'd rate this movie 5 out of 10." True shit.

Either Smaug has a tiny gold statue of a hobbit or he's a 10-mile-long dragon.

Luke91, Based on the 1st Hobbit movie, since I haven't seen DoS yet, I'm 100% with you. It's not just the fact that it uses CGI that makes it bad (obviously the 1st LotR trilogy used CGI, along with every single other movie out there right now), it's that EVERYTHING is CGI. And not just CGI, but bad CGI. Seriously, compare the Uruk-hai Lurtz from Fellowship with Azog or Bolg in The Hobbit movies, and tell me which is better and looks more real and convincing.

And it's undeniable fact that LotR used more prosthetics, miniatures, and practical effects. The Hobbit is almost completely dependent on CGI for almost everything. Look at the aesthetics from the original trilogy and compare it with the Hobbit...it doesn't even look like it takes place in the same Middle-earth! The Hobbit looks like a bad video game, while LotR looks like good, cinematic movies. No wonder it's being compared to the Star Wars Prequels.
