Tin Man and Alice were just the start. In a (not too surprising) announcement, SYFY has plans to show more reimagined fairy tales on Saturday nights. First up will be Beauty and the Beast on February 27 at 9 PM ET. It will star Estella Warren (Planet of the Apes) and Rhett Gilles (Wraiths of Roanoke). “A young Beauty (Warren) with a gift for healing helps a deformed Prince (Gilles) regain his throne and defeat the ruthless nobleman who wants to be king — and then together they try to destroy a power-hungry witch.” Directed by David Lister and written by Gavin Scott.

Other tragedies reimaginings will include a “Little Red Riding Hood” (Red), "Hansel and Gretel" (Hansel), "The Voyages of Sinbad" (8th Voyage of Sinbad), and "Aladdin and the Magic Lamp" (Aladdin). They may leave these open so that they can create back-door pilots, depending on their popularity.

They have also come up with one that looks to be somewhat of a horror tale, Black Forest. “A group of naïve tourists take a sightseeing tour into a supposed enchanted forest, where they encounter evil creatures from the world of fantasy. Trapped in the Black Forest, their only hope of survival is fighting their way out.”

A brief synopsis of a few:

Red — A young woman who is a descendant of the real Little Red Riding Hood brings her fiancé home, where he meets the family and learns about their business – hunting werewolves. He’s skeptical until bitten by a werewolf. When her family insists he must be killed, Red tries saving him.

Hansel — Twenty years after his encounter with the witch, a grown-up Hansel returns to the haunted forest, seeking revenge. But there’s a surprise waiting – his sister Gretel (who he thought had been killed) is the witch’s protégée.

8th Voyage of Sinbad — Sinbad searches for the golden head of the long lost Colossus of Rhodes and, instead, discovers an island where the mythical Minotaur still rules, protecting a vast treasure. Sinbad and his crew have to battle the creature and its minions to get the treasure and save their own lives.

Aladdin (working title) — After accidentally releasing an evil genie from an ancient lamp, Aladdin must find a way to imprison the genie again before it wreaks havoc on the world.”

SyFy has some really interesting ideas that are poorly executed.I always wondered why they don't collaborate with comic book writers.I'm sure there are plenty who want their careers to branch out, and that network is the perfect place.

Some of them are pretty good, both Tin Man and Alice were pretty interesting. And come on, who doesn't want to see another Sinbad movie?
I hope the digital effects sort of resemble the Harryhaussen effects.

I think the sci-fi channel has given us far many more good things than bad.
From sci-fi we got Far Scape, The invisible man, A pretty solid ending to Star Gate, MST3k, BSG and Caprica, those great Dune series, the legend of earth sea, Tin Man, and Alice as well as reruns of just about every amazing sci-fi show that ever graced the airwaves.

Owen Wilson for Hansel!

It could be a bad Zoolander crossover!
