On a sad note, I'm sorry to disappoint all you Hobbit fans with the news that Peter Jackson is NOT gonna be at Comic-con, as was rumored. But, he has pleased the masses with a new video that features the cast and crew sharing their favorite memories during the first three months of filming for the highly anticipated prequel to LOTR.

I'm really looking forward to this movie. You can just see the joy and passion in all of the participants and that type of mix is gold in my book. Just Peter Jackson's schoolboy excitement is enough to put a smile on anyone's face, even grifs.

The Hobbit is an upcoming two-part epic fantasy film directed by Peter Jackson. It is a film adaptation of the 1937 novel of the same name by J. R. R. Tolkien and prequel to The Lord of the Rings film trilogy. Jackson, director of The Lord of the Rings, returns as director of the film and also serves as producer and co-writer. The film will star Martin Freeman as Bilbo Baggins and Richard Armitage, known for playing Lucas North in the BBC drama series Spooks, as Thorin Oakenshield. Several actors from Jackson's The Lord of the Rings film trilogy will reprise their roles, including Ian McKellen, Andy Serkis, Hugo Weaving, Cate Blanchett, Christopher Lee, Ian Holm, Elijah Wood, and Orlando Bloom. Additionally, composer Howard Shore, who wrote the score for The Lord of the Rings film trilogy, has confirmed his role in both parts of the film project. The two parts, entitled The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey and The Hobbit: There and Back Again, are being filmed back to back and are currently in production in New Zealand; principal photography began on March 21, 2011. They are scheduled to be released on December 14, 2012 and December 13, 2013, respectively.

@RoyalTenenbaum ~ I know right!

@ComicCommando ~ That's hilarious.

I watched parts of the LOTR trilogy here and there. I thought it was boring. But the premise of The Hobbit sounds interesting. After seeing all these funny actors in this video, I'm definitely seeing this next year.

@ Despero If you found LotR boring you may still like the Hobbit flicks. The tone is much different.

That sells me more than any trailer could. What a great and fun cast that appear to know their role and what to do with it. Marvel? DC? This will be the biggest hit of 2012! :-P

YES CHRISTOPHER LEE!!!!

So glad they're doing his scenes quickly so he can rest afterwards. Thought he might not even make it to shoot the film. That would have been awful.

I really like that they've given every Dwarf a distinct look and personality, as well as back-story for those who didn't already have one. There are so many set-pieces I'm really looking forward to seeing on screen, and adding the supplemental material about the raid on Dol Goldur, for example, is going to make this flow beautifully into The Lord of the Rings. I just rewatched Return of the King, and that go me really excited to see the Battle of Five Armies translated to the screen!

Peter Jackson is getting fat again because of all of the extreme amounts of stress that The Hobbit is putting on him. I truly feel sorry for the man.

Wonderful stuff! I feel I'm back to 2000.

@ajax2, why they would have to use small actors for dwarves? Did you see John Rhys-Davies height? He's definitely taller than most of the actors!
