The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that Dominic Purcell - who's best known for his roles in Blade: Trinity and the TV series Prison Break - has been cast in the upcoming film Paradise Lost, directed by Alex Proyas and based on the epic poem by John Milton. The actor joins previously announced actors such as Bradley Cooper (Lucifer), Djimon Hounsou (Angel Of Death), and Casey Affleck (Gabriel) in the much anticipated flick.

Dominic Purcell has been cast in Warner Bros.' Paradise Lost. Alex Proyas is directing the action fantasy film, which stars Bradley Cooper, Casey Affleck, Djimon Hounsou, Ben Walker, Camilla Belle and Callan McAuliffe.

Who do you think Purcell should play in the film? He seems like someone who can easily play a servant of Satan IMO, but who knows? Be sure to sound off your thoughts below in the usual place.

UPDATE: Thanks to Coming Soon, we now know that Purcell will be playing Moloch, 'a former angel who, after falling, sides with Lucifer in the battle against heaven.' Many thanks to CBM user TheDarkHorner for the headsup.

Paradise Lost hits theaters near the end of 2013!

Interesting.

Any ideas as to who he'll portray?

One of the Fallen, I'm thinking. Mammon, Beelzebub, Belial, Moloch?

@TheAmarilloBlack. Beelzebub seems like a good bet, Lucifer's right hand man.

@Intruder Thanks for that list but I think the casting is diliberate. All your "Brilliant's" have a tough, strong look whereas your "Fail's" have a weak look.

I for one like to see this movie to adhere to the art that's attached to the book/poem. Google "paradise lost" and see what I mean. Angels don't have to look yoked to be mighty.

Amazes me how much "Gabriel" w/ Andy Whitfield reminded me of the Crow w/ Proyas directed..Now Proyas is doing this.

He could be playing Sariel (or Seriel, Sauriel Suriel or the many other derivatives of the Archangel) He is much like Raphael, said to be an angel of healing. But he is also a benevolent angel of death; one of a few "duel role angels." So is he good...is he bad?? Besides, Dominic was very good in Killer Elite...he can adapt to many ethnicities/roles. Many times actors will be limited on what they are "pigeon-holed" for and have to deliver what is asked of them. Sometimes judging actors on what WE think they should have delivered is unfair and subjective.....but that's the point of this comment section right? "Monday morning quarterbacking" and complaining no matter which way the directors and actor go? That's drama and drama and conflict is what sells.....

....by the way...I totally agree with Intruder. Though I think Casey is an underrated actor...or at least not appreciated for the acting ability that he does possess; he is not THEE Archangel Michael. Michael is controlled and undeniable power of the highest order, yet he can blend within the "human race" when he needs to...he has to have that "something" a "something" that I think acting alone cannot deliver - thus Casey cannot. I'm thinking of; Michael Fassbender, Henry Cavill (from Immortals) if he wasn't Sups, or even Jim Caviziel (even his last name is "of God.")

@ intruder dore's illustrations were what i was referring to. I disagree with you that they don't have to be supermodels/adonis-esque or w/e..i think they ought to. but i think the movie would work towards that with the cgi n motion cap. dore's angels are not cut.

about your list yeah i overlooked it, i thought i saw a pattern. devils would be the the most physical looking type, the reg angels would be the typical gustave angel. ie, 6'+ and soft bodied

Pyrael - 10/7/2011, 7:08 PM
I take it back, my idea of an angel isn't cut or yoked up. I'd be fine with a true representation of dore's angel and I'm sure it would still show strength and power etc. As for affleck and macalulusdlkfjsd... i think they'd go the way of gabriel from the constantine movie - which btw i think was spot on.

does anybody else here think Purcell would make a GREAT Namor...or is it just me...??? i think he's got the look, physique and attitude about him.

ps: can't wait to see Camilla Belle in some super sexy angelic dress.

@Intruder

With the exception of Affleck I wholeheartedly agree with your list. I'm not a huge Casey Affleck fan, but after watching the Assassination of Jesse James I'm willing to give him a shot. He didn't "wow" me in it, but his performance was decent.

But Dominic Purcell... I distinctly remember watching him for the first time in Blade: Trinity and being thoroughly unimpressed.

AFFLECK is miscast, the rest are pretty dope tho...GABRIEL needs to exude power, and while i'm almost always impressed by AFFLECKS acting abiity, that is just a trait he does not posess.
